Ohio Brewing IS Having an Octoberfest (see link) pretty much all day and night Saturday, so that would be an option. I plan on heading down there after the Zip game, but I doubt I'll stick around for for the later game. I'm afraid there will be too much red and silver hanging around for my taste . On the other hand, if that "other" game goes according to the prognosticators, it might be kind of fun to hang out for a while.Ohio Brewing Company Octoberfest

His transfer year in this case is his rs year. You are given 5 years to play 4. He played 2 at Iowa and then transfered to UA. That was his 3rd year. He is now a jr.Thanks for the clarification, flip and BZ!

That could very well be the case, BUT if I knew that one of my key players WAS able (not saying Ryan is) to return to action I'm not sure I would let this information out by simply putting him back on a depth chart that is accessible to the public. I have to think that his return this week is highly doubtful, but I'll wait until tomorrow when (I thought anyway) the injury report will come out. On a related note, I found a site that has injury reports for all FBS teams.Injury ReportsI had another thought earlier this week. Does anyone know if Bain has a red-shirt year left? I'd be the 1st to say how disappointing it would be to not have him be able to play at all this year, but if the season moves along and the Zips are at least playing 0.500 ball without him, maybe it'd make sense to hold him back for 2 years in the Info. Just a thought. He used his RS year last year for his transfer year. His injury must be worse that we were led to believe. I remember at one point there was talk of him playing at Wisci. Then I wonder if he'd be able to apply for a "medical hardship" which can effectively get you two red-shirt years. Maybe if the injury is well documented, he may have a good case for a 6th year of eligibility? We're jumping to conclusions. The injury report isn't listed until Thursday. Since Bain was listed as doubtful for Syracuse, he won't appear on the depth chart until his condition is upgraded on the injury report. We'll know for sure tomorrow.I don't really think anyone here is jumping to conclusions. For myself, I'm only trying to figure out what, if any, options are left for Ryan IF the injury is prolonged.

Updated QB Ratings & "Around the MAC"
johnnyzip84 replied to MACReport's topic in Akron Zips Football
Or perhaps a "stately" employee (as in "stately" Wayne Manor) -
You have others who agree with this same thought (See Link1)Link1However, I also think their big and relatively fast TE Darius Hill is a player to be concerned about. We had some trouble in the Dome with SU's TE's and this guy (Hill) is currently rated as the 6th best in the country by Rivals (See Link2).Link2

I guess I'll look at the bright side. When was the last time the MAC only had ONE team (and one waiting) on this list a few games into the season? And if we gotta have one there, what better choice would there be than our bestest buddies to the east It's all because of course.

I hope the number of references to them looking ahead to the IU game turn out to be true. That's certainly one thing a coach simply cannot let his team do in college football. Why you might call it a "Cardinal sin"

One Last (and hilarious) Look at UA-SU
johnnyzip84 replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Football
Best part is: at 3:49 you can see my left arm holding my "Fear the Roo" flag over the Zips' entrance to the locker room. :D I was quite pleased that they got that in there RowdyZip.......your "Fear the Roo" flag that is, not your arm! -
I promise this is my last reference to the victory over the Orange, but I just couldn't help myself from one last slice of tasty schadenfreude, courtesy of the depressed Orange nation. Besides, who can resist any show with Zippy as a frontliner?Doom in the Dome

I caught that as well. But when the BJ does a good story like that on the Zips, I don't get too hung up about a small error.Agreed. In fact I was trying to post "kudos" on the site (and I am registered) but I seem to be encountering technical difficulties. Maybe we all are as I haven't seen one comment yet.Update: it seems to be working now.

Nice article, but I did catch one mistake that I'm sure many Zip fans noticed as well. The loss to Central following the NC State win was played in Mount Pleasant.

Well deserved, indeed. The one thing that I was particularly happy to see out of Jack was the way he shook off the poor decision (one of very few in the whole game) to throw right into the zone coverage (on the INT) while he was pressured. As well as he played throughout the game, he may have played his best after making that mistake.

This "new low" buzzword is taking over the entire Fingers Lakes region. If you do a Google Search with +Akron +Syracuse +"new low" you will get an estimated FOUR THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY HITS!!! I sure hope the Zips' performances the rest of the year make all of these jokers eat their words

Excellent point RowdyZip! In fact I was telling people this morning that I heard some SU sports talk bemoaning their facilities and it just about blew me away. Yeah the Dome is a little old, BUT as you say that place could be an incredible advantage with the right people in charge. It's not hard to see why the teams of Coach Dick MacPherson had solid home records. BTW, I believe I was sitting in front of you and received a few of your enthusiastic "high fives" during the game . Keep it up, we'll keep pumping life into this fan base until WE have a big home field advantage!

Merce DID have a ball thrown his way early in the game (1st quarter I think) and it bounced of his hands and was nearly picked off. But I do agree that he is a weapon that needs to be used more, since he is (as you stated) a team leader and a fine athlete. Although it's pretty cool that he already has 1 TD in each game so far. Now THAT'S efficiency!
-
And if that doesn't inspire you then how about the fact that an "UNNAMED", 4****, 7 FOOT, 2009 RECRUIT will be on campus this weekend taking his "OFFICIAL VISIT" and will be in attendance at the Home Opener!!!!! Any guesses...Bueller, Bueller, Bueller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Nice Ferris reference Zeke's Mom! We will all be looking forward to seeing the "unnamed" one and his family at the bowl. Let's all hope for a nice crowd, but either way I don't suspect he'll be able to hide

Excellent idea, Z.I.P.! And while I did admire Jose's athletic abilities, both on the gridiron and on the court, I am pretty sure that as a QB he was 0-4 against our Zips

I think Fleming would look pretty good in the rover position.....a natural. How is his health? Anyone?

To be fair, while SU has struggled recently, they DO have a storied program. They've won a national championship (OK, it was a while ago, but how many programs can say this), they were a LEADING program in the racial integration of the game, and they've produced LOTS of star players particularly at the RB position (Ernie Davis, Larry Csonka, Floyd Little in addition to the aforemention and unparalled Brown).

It is obvious that JD was NOT talking BS when he emphasized Jack's progress through-out the off-season and into camp. BUT, let's also not forget the generally much improved O-line play. Jack can't have confidence in himself unless he has confidence in them and it's evident that he is VERY comfortable setting up behind these guys.

C'mon, Beanie. You can't be serious? The grousing over the 3-3-5 didn't start this season. What's written is a continuation of at least 1 1/2 years of frustration. To be fair -- We're getting mauled, but we're still better than any of Lee Owens' defenses. Was thinking this same thing yesterday. The D was pushed around again yesterday for sure, but there is no way LO's D makes that crucial 4th down stop (BWill!).

This is an interesting question. My bro-in-law (SeeTeeZip) and I listened to the local Syracuse radio broadcasters on the early part of the drive home, and they were hosting a typical post-game call-in show (talk about a group of depressed fans). One SU fan called into question this 31,000 figure as well and he put his estimate at 11,000. Then the host asked him if he was at the game or did he watch it on TV. The guy confessed that he saw it on TV. That made me think that the TV angles must have seriously underestimated the crowd, because based on what I could see (taking into account the 45,000 seat capacity and the relatively high degree of pre-game activity on campus) I would say the crowd HAD to be at least 25,000.Of course, when Merce scored the clinching TD, there were probably only 1,000 SU fans who bothered to stick around to the bitter end. What an awesome experience this was. I had a blast with everyone in the Zip section of the end zone. And Syracuse is a very nice town to visit, with plenty of activity downtown in the Armory Square area especially. Couldn't help but think that UA and Akron could be well served to pattern future cooperation/growth along the SU/Syracuse model (and I think they're already doing a LOT to move in this direction). It made me even more excited about the opening of the Info and I didn't think that was possible

Does anyone know anything about Bain? He was supposed to play last week. He hasn't practiced at all. Even when he is back it will take him a couple of weeks of practice and games to get the rust out and get in game shape. We finally have a stud at a position of need and he is hurt... It looks like Bain is doubtful for Syracuse (Razor's Blog, see link). This makes it a more difficult task, but I still think the Zips can win a shootout. I'll go Zips 34, Orange 31.Link
