zipschk. hello???? get a clue. that is what college (and even hs students) do. they cheer on their team and bash the other team. take the ozone for instance. they fill out a report and hand it to the whole student section. the report includes the opposing teams record schedule and some notes to get on us about during the game. and it also includes things to yell at our players about. anything to get them out of the game. if that is the best excuse you got then that is sad. ha. cant believe this is even being talked about on a 5th pg.

rowdyzip, i agree with your comments. that girl seems to be one of those college girls that never matured past their hs days. Grow Up. the Rowdies are pretty good. the problem i would say is their seating. 4 rows on each end? give me a break. what about giving them somthing on the side of the court? i realize this may be a little excessive until the rowdies expand however. maybe not because i notice at times there are some rowdies in above sections. from her business hanging out, did you mean from the top, bottom or the sides?

listen, you guys are not using any basketball sense. why would you want to replace the one guy (well besides dru at times) that controls the game and pace? he knows the game and plays it the right way. case in point when at the end of the first half he stole the ball but didnt rush down the floor on a break. he noticed the shot clock being out and slowed it up for the last shot. or when he makes the extra pass (he was responsible for 3 of ceds 3s the other night) to a wide open teammate instead of forcing one up. and he is the only one that i see making a consistant effort to get the ball to our horses in the post. Dials makes basketball plays that wins basketball games. that is why he is the best guard we have. not because he can jump out of the gym or beat anyone in the league in a 40. he is a basketball talent. on another note, you want your best lineup as a starting group. traditionally that is. and our best lineup i would say is Dru, Dials, Ced, Milum, Travis. that seemed to be the linup that KD trusted at the end of the game (last 4 min). Linhart was in there too but you cant have him in there at first to avoid matchup problems. We need Milum in there anyways so we could get at least one tip at the games beginning. you think that razor knows what he is talking about when it comes to sports? you should know better than that after reading his articles for the football season.

zipfan, your knowledge of basketball the game, not streetball or whatever, would not qualify you to answer a question on the game for my daughters YMCA team. the real question going around the crowd last night was why is Dials the only one playing D. Was not present at the BG game but i was told he held the leagues leading scorer to 3 baskets. and the other night "his man" only scored when he had to help the lack of D on the screen and roll can't ran the whole game. i know you and sgm hate dials and are a little clueless on basketball knowledge, but get this... Dials is the best all around player we have. without question. Ced is the best offensive player and he brings us a good spirt off the bench. that is what he does and he does it well. he makes way too many mistakes like turn the ball over and missing the open man and taking bad shots. along with playing par D. Dials goes 4-6 (dont quote me on that) and you are bashing him like he was trash. and he hit clutch shots the other night. not to mention playing the best D on the team (with a key strip and the end of the game). get him more shots and he is at about 15 a game. easy. Just like Ced is playing his role, Dials is playing his unselfishly. He isnt concerned with just scoring. And if he was we would have a problem with egos with his ability, dru, ced, rome, and wood. i am thankful he takes a backseat a little bit in the scoring column. although i think we would be better if KD would get him involved in the offense like he said a few weeks ago. just because you dont see Dials not giving 20pt games doesnt mean he isnt doing what is needed for this team to win. That is exactly what he is doing.

screwtheroo, walther is no better than any of our guards we have, well the top 3. PERIOD. to base your point on ppg just shows how shallow your knowledge is on the subject of basketball. It showed the other night. 16 pts is what you will be crying, but 6 of those came on "lets shoot and fall down so the ref calls a foul" type sissy sh*t. if it werent for those then he is in or near single digits. (counting the effect it would have had on the rest of his performance with his "i have to get mine" attitude)i can be fair with the leon statement. i think that he is the best big in the league along with the big from western. but i am not sure about your other post. talented yes, but i am not putting him in my top 5. just a matter of wood not playing, which he has a tendency to do when he has his "walther" attitude, and tillman playing well with a lot of focus going to leon. just the cold hard facts fellas

OZone, thanks for your fair observations. Actually pretty classy for an OU fan. From what i seen the other night was that we were only in the game by effort. Wood and Rome killed us during the course of the game. Every time someone BIG (as in height & physicality) comes and plays us, our posts are scared. they blocked our shots left and right when we went down low. And im not even going to start on the way Leon manhandled them down low on the other end of the floor. I can admit when i am wrong, but Mcknight was our best post player sat night. you guys were right on that call.

i agree with the stopping of goddard threads. that is just stupid. the moment we see that is the moment we start trying people out for next year and giving this year up. joyce, dials, and middleton are all good shooters. it is about time that KD will try to open shots up for these guys instead of beating in down low to those who give no effort on D. those three give nothing but hard work and hustle night in and night out. especially dials and middleton. heck, the games ive seen (home ones and YSU & OU) dials gets nothing but garbage points from just being smart... nothing is keyed for him on the offensive end. avg. about 10 from smarts, i wonder what he would get if we tried to get him a few more shots in a game besides 4-5 attempts. same goes with Joyce most of the time.just to add on to the notes on goddard..... not only is he a walkon as someone has already mentioned and he is prob our 5 guard, but he is only a catch and shoot kind of player. as someone else mentioned before, when he gets real min i think he is shooting about 30-35%. eveyone knows he is one dementional and it is easy to take that away, regardless if you play man or zone. not to metion the liability he is on the other end. and OU played a matchup zone with is pretty much man2man. there is just no way.
-
read the message. i was talking about a video with photo clips, not yours in particular. " They better not play A video with picture clips before the game". Sen-Si-Tive.
-
so let me get this right.... it is romes job to get eatin up inside night in and night out? well thats just great. and then it is not his fault because other guys cant guard their man and his too? what a joke.
-
an awsome game from rome? ha. how many times did he get scored on from inside 3'? i dont know the exact number, but i do know that it is over 10. and making an excuse on his calf about his lack of rebounding is rediculous. it isnt about jumping. it is about putting your body into someone elses and having a big enough heart to go get it. he is killing us. bottom line. i think joyce had a fine game. made very little mistakes and played hard with heart. no, it wasnt his best but i think anyone would agree that we will take the effort. same goes with ced. he played bad by forcing up shots and not too good of D again. but he has heart. bottom line is we have too many guys only worrying about looking good no the O end of the floor. that is all some of those guys care about. and that is why we have lost the 2 games. ive said it all along as well as many others, it is not about the stats!!!
-
settle down sgm405. you wanted to know what we thought and we let you know what we thought. no hard feelings. jeeze.
-
she had done well with the program to date. when they play at the pace and style that kest wants, they do ok. if they dont then they are finished. crooks kills them. she is just in there to fire it up. that is out of their style. and someone give mccoy a left arm please.
-
no one should get more pt. every time we lose everyone wants changes. how about the fact that we just sucked? face it, when the coaches say "rome every play is for you but then you dont have to play D on the other end" we arent good. we need to play as a team night in and night out. and i fault KD for that. how many times does he say in the papers and in interviews that they must play D to play for him? and he is going to let rome get all those min. while getting manhandled and dunked on? come on. its not about stats fellas. how many pts did mcknight give up? he is another rome in the making. how about that 3 he gave up when they tried to get into a zone D? dumb dumb dumb. quit looking at the stat sheet to decide pt. that is dumb dumb dumb.
-
oh and by the way, Dials shot us out of another one right boys?
-
well i dont think we have a right to be talking about the refs in this one. the bottom line is we played no defense. that is the problem. someone mentioned heart in one of their posts. and they are right. we have no fight and no heart outside our 3 guards. they play hard every game on both ends of the floor. i too was at the lizard tonight, just got back actually, and that was the same story again tonight. everyone keeps talking about romeo this and romeo that. i dont see what you are looking at. yeah he scores 20 here and there, but what else does he do? does not rebound which gives up buckets (case in point tonight) and he plays no more D than i did tonight sitting on my a$$ at the bar. my point is he gives up more than he scores most every night and the only way that he scores is off sets that KD puts in for him. or by a nice assist by Joyce or Dials. his D, or lack there of, is what is killing this team up to date. more pt for mcknight? you guys are kidding right? watch him one time. just for one trip up and down the floor. he does nothing and is lost. i think KD knows what he gets from mcknight and i giving him the pt he deserves. no less.
-
i dont care what kind of music you put with it, they wont or better not play a video with picture clips before the game. my baby brother wouldnt be ready to play after that.
-
ok. you name one better since we became D1. there are a lot of either ors, but none that plays both sides. i think KD needs to give him a chance to play more offense. just to get him comfortible. it does not take a degree to see who he runs everything for. Without KD play calling, there are some that doesnt score double figures. and none of that goes through dials.
-
hahaha. no i believe he guarded the 2 man in the gardner webb game. and that was their best player that nearly beat tech on his own and dials shut him down. scored nothing on him. zip. natta. scored on ced twice at least. look at those numbers. and he was guarding the 3 man the whole first game vs ualr. and they scored close to nothing combined. i believe i heard Frenchy say that there 3 man had something likd 17 pts. the game before. and the guards lighting us up vs ualr were all on ced pretty much. and dru. so thanks for pointing out he plays with great effort night in and night out. but the facts say and show that he is a great defender. does not matter if he guards the 1 2 or 3 man.basketballman31 - just so you can say you know a little bit about hoops, the 1 man doesnt always guard the other 1 man. and that goes on down the line. notice that romeo guards their worst big man night in and night out. not always the 4 man.
-
oh and forgot to mention with those games last year... those were fresh off of an injury. an acl he came back from in 3 months. no conditioning or preseason workouts. most guys couldnt put up any kind of numbers (for those who only care for the numbers) with a sprained ankle or a stoved finger.
-
I will never figure out what you guys are looking at. Basketball is not a numbers game and that is your only 'proof'. You want numbers to determine play, switch to the baseball forum. Where is the Cal game where he had 15 and 1 missed shot? at Cal. where is the Louisville game with i believe 12 or more with 2 missed attempts? those werent bigger games than clemson? give me a break. maybe look that the game and answer me this... he should stop playing D, like romeo, wood, linhart, and others (god knows bubba) and just worry about 3 or 4 missed shots a game. so he is missing about 10 pts a game while those guys are giving up or did give up when they were here 20+ points. he takes care of the ball and knows how to play. when you take only 7 shots after 2 games and still ave. 7, thats pretty good. for those of you that only care about numbers. and for those who blame the game on him are you out of your mind. i heard at least 3 or 4 passes he made that were for dunks, not layups, and were missed. dials is the best all around player we have. or ever had. give him more shots and call a play for him one time in the midst of the game. everything is obviously ran for everyone else. and with are best shooter on the floor, quote that, you dont run anything for him. that is insane. 3 or 4 shots a game is nearly impossible to get in to any kind of rythem.
-
I believe that McNeese saw very limited minutes in the scrimmage. That isnt good news for him. Bardo i heard played real well in the scrimmage and shows times of toughness. I doubt that he will get many meaningful minutes this year unless there are foul troubles between travis, wood, milum and mcknight
-
Yeah I am sure about Rybak. He will be a factor this year. Around 10-15 min. a game I am guessing. I think that all the practices are open for KD. I encourage people to go watch for a few minutes. KD really has an uptempo style even in practice. Forget football, its hoops season

Those are all good posts on what we saw last night. Here is a little something I saw...GuardsDru - He is going to have another solid year for the Zips. He def. knows the KD system and runs it to a T. He was moving the ball real good and emphazized a transition game. He is in excellent shape and needs to be if we are going to run up and down the whole game. Dials - He looks great to me. He is moving so well. His comback is still amaziing to me. He is running the floor great and is playing tough D. I dont know if you guys seen this or not, but he does not miss. I think that getting that leg into shape is making a difference with this department. Look for GREAT things from him this year. I think he is ready and in great shape. He never sat. Middleton - Also looks good and in great shape. He plays at a different speed than Dru and Dials that can shake things up for the opposition. He will be a great 6th man. His play is the same as last year, but with an extra kick. He will be ready whenever called on. McNeese - KDs system puts a lot of emphasis on well disiplined guards. He has a lot to learn from playbook standpoint to leadership standpoint. He will learn this and will be a good player to spot minutes for the above 3. Dials seems to be taking him under his wing a little bit. He will be a bright spot in time to come. He really handles the ball well. I think he just needs to learn the system and he will be fine. This is a great group of guards we have. You have Dru and Dials shooting the lights out and a slashing Middleton. A good mix that compliments each other real well and enjoy playing off each other. An improved group that will win us a lot of games. Forwards - Linhart - He looks ok to me. He has not improved as much as any of the returning guards, which kind of disappoints me - he was one of my fav. sparks last year. Still lookds slim and shys away from contact. He does know what is going on in the KD system and I think that will put him in the starting lineup over Conyers. Conyers - Has a lot of ablitlity, but also has a lot to learn. It looked like he his having a hard time with the motion type offense. He does have a nice shot and gives us another athletic option to put on the floor. Will be a great player for us when he learns the system and finds ways to impress KD. Bright future as well. Rybak - He looks real good. He looks in real good shape compared to last year. Still has a nice shot. He may even be our starter at the 3 position. He really will be in the hunt for major minutes this year. He knows the system real well and it looks like he plays within his abilities. This group scares me the most. There really isnt no one here that has the complete package on offense and the combination of good defense. I think we are going to have to go small a couple times a game, not including the ball control squad at the end of the 1st and 2nd half, with Dials at the 3. Posts -Romeo - Although I think he is going to make key contributions to the team this year, he really doesnt look like he has done a lot of work in the offseason. His body looks the same and he does not get after it on the boards or on defense. KD looked frustraited with him, maybe it was a bad day. He just looked exactly the same as last year. I expected much improvement. Wood - He looks real good to me. I remember him being the guy that was always willing to argue with things, but it really impressed me when he was willing to learn and listen. He seemed to have a good raport with Dru and Dials as they shared their thoughts with things. Whatever that was. He looks bigger, but I dont think its being out of shape as much as him going hard in the gym. He looks good to me and it will be a real key to our success as a team. Milum - Has impressed me. I think that he will be a key contributor off the bench this year. He runs the floor much better and is in great shape. He has a pretty good jumper, which I cant tell you if he had one last year. He just seems more comfortible with everything going on. I have a good feeling with Quade this year. He looked tough on the boards too. McKnight - His is good. He looked the best out of all the first year guys. He will be the only frosh. to contribute right away I think. He looked tough on the guys and was full of effort. KD seemed to point out a lot of things that he needs to learn at the end of practice. I think that is because KD expects good things from him. He looks fit and ready for the college level on the physical side. He just has a lot to learn. Bardo - I do not see him contributing this year. He looks slow and out of shape. He seems to like the hs defense where hit sits in the lane the whole time. That is not going to work. He just showed no effort which made it that much worse to the eye. He may have a nice little career here, but it isnt going to be great as was expected. This group is pretty good. What worries me about this group is consistancy throughout the season. They dont look like they are in good shape and that could spell a little bit of trouble. The key thing this group will have to do is control the glass. If we win the rebound game, I think we win. There will be a nice 4 man rotation from what i saw. Which could help the conditioning aspect. Let the discussion continue...
-
I think that this Zips team will have a good turnout. 26 wins is where they will stand I believe. And I believe that is a minimum for the Zips. It could be better with the additions of Conyers and a healthy Wood and Dials. Then you add Travis and Joyce to finish out the starting five this is a deadly lineup. Then bringing the likes of a Milum, Middleton, and Linhart off the bench. This is a very good team if they can pull it together for the full season and not take nights off or quit playing before the final horn as they showed last season. With the depth and the experience of Joyce and Dials in the backcourt I believe this will no longer be a problem for the Zips in the up and coming year. This is a year to be excited about.

I dont know what the big deal for Akron Football is? The ONLY, and I mean the ONLY, reason we won the MAC last year was injuries to other key players from other teams. Even then we were scratching to get to the championship game. Lets just face it, we are totally over-hyped. Those who said Getsy was just as good as Frye have to seem obligated to go hang themselves. He is horrible. Basketball and Soccer are the only two programs to get excited about at Akron. Just face it now. It helps, trust me.
