  1. It's not good warm-ups if we don't fix the problems that we have. We have seemingly had the same problems all year. I don't know if it's just me and my fandom, but every time I watch the Zips I feel like I'm watching a jumbled together, hobbled mess that somehow pulls out wins. Whenever I watch other teams the look like a team ready to win. Of course, this is just my untrained amateur Zip basketball fan speaking...but it's just a feeling I have every time I watch them...near 5 years now.

  2. How is he still employed in any coaching capacity? I'm sorry but the coaching world is one of the biggest swindles in the universe. Where coaches who are complete and utter failures (other than Ianello) can bounce around from team to team not really ever accomplishing anything. It's almost like coaches say "hey, even though I'm terrible at what I do...there's no way you could do it...so hire me" and the people hiring them fall for it every time.

  3. If we're going to shoot for a 10k stadium...then this is the time to do it. I like what akzipper said "strike while the iron is hot". While we have Dambrot for a 10 year career, opening a new stadium would help in recruiting better players down the road as well as attract more people to the games. Casual fans who don't attend games because it's the JAR. I'm sure we could get more public/private support for such a project than the football team. Because, lets be real here, the Basketball team is more consistently good.

Now...if only all of us ZNO could pitch in $1000...maybe we could buy ourselves a nice little sign of recognition

  4. I ran the number the other day but never got around to posting about it. Average home attendance (10-games) is up about 109 people. A positive sign the program is staggering in the right direction?

    2013-2014 2012-2013 change

    6-games 3158.88 2896.16 +262.72

    10-games 3183.20 3074.10 +109.1

    12-games TPD 3324.66

    16-games TPD 3781.56

  5. ZachTheZip +1. I'm not sure where all the concern has been coming from...several writers of publications have also used the word "concerning" in their articles. It's not concerning. It makes sense to me mathematically when you consider how many people graduated/left. There wasn't much attrition to begin with, so how can a small class be concerning?

What would be a concern is if they didn't fill any holes, or if the recruits weren't quality. From what I've seen neither is the case. Most of the recruits appear to be high quality recruits, as well as filling some of the more pressing holes on the team.

  6. I'm saying more academically sound because, hypothetically of course, you would be dedicating those resources and faculty to programs that are your bread and butter. Programs that make a name for you academically, as opposed to the ones that don't...IE the ones that they are cutting. One of Sherman's goals when he came to UA was to furnish programs that can graduate students in 4 years. Agree with it or not, that is the goal.

I'm saying "academically sound" because some programs are laughable to have when there are less than a handful of students participating in them. Intelligence is relative, and we shouldn't be relying on a few individuals is fringe programs to pad the academic statistics of the university, but do a better job of admitting college ready students and hiring college quality staff. At least the former they seem to be working on.

  7. To me (the amateur casual observer of recruiting) appears to be a strong class, regardless of the number of recruits. How many times have we had a high volume of recruits and most of them don't pan out?

We have the foundational players for the OL and DL, which a lot of us were worried about. We got a future QB, and some SOLID recruits for the defensive side. I'd imagine there are some 5th years/transfers in the works to beef up for this year.

Overall, the question I throw out there to everyone is: Do you think that we gained more talent (or potential talent) in this recruiting class than we lost to graduation?
