I work full-time, have a 1 year old, and use the weekends to catch up on things I can't get done during the week. I arrived at the JAR at 10:30 and stayed the entire game. Just saying.
And I'm assuming you're an (not 19, 20 year old) adult right? I work full time too, and make it to the games...however when I was in college I usually worked on the weekends, which was what I was trying to say by college students and working. Many students have jobs on the weekends, especially the mornings. This was the case for me and my roommates. We'd all go to evening games, but would rarely make it to morning games because of work. Other people I knew would be in bed till 12 (shocker, college kids in bed all day, which isn't just an Akron thing).
I'm not trying to excuse it...but I'm just being realistic. If we want student participation, afternoon-evening is best time for games. Evening if you want the best student attendance.

From the article
The five power conferences of college sports want more flexibility in providing financial support to athletes.I believe that says it all. I'm sorry, but Universities are a place of education, not sports...and not paying students to play sports and to represent an institution that they will not graduate from. It's time for educators to take back our institutions of higher education and maintain them as places of higher education. College athletics is ABSOLUTELY OUT OF CONTROL. Nothing makes it more clear to me than the fact that Penn State still has a football program.

Wow ... !!! The Zips climb all the way up to 98th place.
I gave up voting awhile ago...there's no point. There just isn't enough Akron people voting to keep pace with schools that are so clearly stacking.

Technical difficulties on the radio side? Still getting the national feed on 1350AM.
Video stream seems fine.
Video stream is terrible...choppy.

If only that represented actual "bodies" or butts in seats. The numbers shown are tickets sold. You have to subtract no-shows to get a true body count.
Though...it's still a positive sign. More tickets sold = more interest in supporting the program.

There are teams that would kill to be 12-6 (football anyone).
This is not our best year ever, but 12-6 really truly is not bad.
If we went 22-9 regular season (do I have the math right DIG?) that would not be horrible for the post Zeke (and AA) era.
So lets stop crying about the losses. It happens.
+1.

Don't kid yourself. Toledo is very very good this year.
He wasn't kidding himself...he was saying exactly what you are...

Akron 4-0 in OOC next year to round off the top ten?

That's nice, but the only people he has to prove anything to is himself and KD. If he is going to rejoin the team, it's not to benefit the team. It's to benefit himself. He has to decide that he really does want to do the things that will benefit him in the long run like finishing school and becoming a contributing member of society. He needs to figure out that the team doesn't need him as much as he needs to be part of the team. What happens in the next few months will show which way he wants to go. It's up to him.
Don't get me wrong, I understand that and support anyone who's trying to get themselves back on track. I'm just saying that I don't buy what people are selling unless they give us proof. Saying and doing are two completely different things.

He seems to have learned a great deal. Let us put it behind us and welcome him home.
Call me skeptical, but I need proof of that before I believe it.

Honestly...I always try to follow recruiting and pretend to get excited about it...but ultimately I can't. Ranking schools "recruiting classes" from worst to best is shell game hogwash that, IMO, only exists for prognosticators to continually prop up "top" progams, while busting lower programs. Talent is important yes, but the coach is more important. The coach is (hopefully) recruiting players he can mold and train into his system.
I mean we had to have had the "worst" recruiting classes in the past 4 years...Michigan has had significantly "better" recruiting classes...and yet we went toe-to-toe with them.
-
Isnt it illegal for "fans" to contact recruits about attending their school? Syracuse offered Washington and he is getting bombared by their fans on twitter. Sad.
It is sad. But I also don't understand how the NCAA can make it "illegal"...what, institutions are supposed to monitor and be responsible for fan behavior on social media??

Exactly. People purchasing GA tickets can sit wherever they want in the 3 bleacher sections.
Here's the deal. We were about 1,000 short of a sellout in ticket sales, and the no-shows need to be subtracted from that. Knowing that the lower bowl is counted as full every game and counted as part of the 4,500 ticket sales, that means that we were 1,000 or more short of filling the top section. And since Upper Reserve was indeed full, someone really has to be a dreamer to think that the bleacher sections were 3/4 full when those 3 sections had to account for the 1,000 tickets that were not sold. The two end bleacher sections in particular were closer to 3/4 empty than 3/4 full. You could visually count the people in those two sections. That's sad for such a big game.
And please, for those using the TIME excuse, tell me why an 11am starting time on a Saturday is such a big problem for a college student? Plenty of time to sleep in and it doesn't interfere with evening or night drinking hours? Are college kids still sleeping at 11am these days?
I don't know. It sure seems like a "nothing else is going on" time frame to me. Come On !! Would students at Kentucky, Duke, etc., pass on a big 11am game on a Saturday? Especially when some of them will get to sit on the first few rows on the floor?
Well not that I want to excuse the non-attendance of students...Saturday mornings = laundry, work, cleaning, other chores or things that aren't normally completed during the week time. People are creatures of habit. This isn't just an Akron thing. Michigan's student section was surprisingly empty for a game that started at 12:00.
-
As a member of the AK-Rowdies, I was at the game and down in the floor seats. I think the reason for the poor turnout for Saturday's game was, in part, due to the 11 AM start time. But I think the reason the student turnout is down this season is because poor leadership from the heads of the Rowdies. They do nothing more than send out e-mails reminding students when games are scheduled. In past years they would collaborate with the athletic department to come up with promotions to get more students (Rowdie members or not) to the game. Just not the effort that there used to be.
+1. As a recent graduate, I remember the good leadership and they would do those things + round up people in dorms + round up people in the Union + round up people wherever they could find them. They would be shout out chants to the other leaders, and start those chants.
-
I'm not trying to start a bashing of the Rowdies, just curious from those on campus/in the group what has happened this year as far as basketball goes?
Poor leadership and 11:00 game?

Is it just me or do we always seem to lay an egg after beating OU in a big game?
-
Wow, a little presumptuous...passing of the torch (pssh) Let's knock 'em out early in the morn, so the Rockets can still get breakfast before their long drive home

I suppose that no one cares about this. The Zips slipped to 42nd.
I retweet all of them that come up...tweet and vote everyday. I just don't think there's enough of us :/

Hey watch it...I wanna save the earth, and I don't smell bad or smoke pot. That must be why I don't go to Can't!

HAHA! This is great but I must admit GP1's calculated story was fantastic as well. If my little guy wasn't such a die hard, more than me at times I think, I would porbably go without him. But he knows the entire schedule, which games are home, which games are away and which games are supposed to be on TV. He loves him some Zips. And I love the memories that the Zips have created for me with him!
There's a good man. Raising 'em right!

I went to the Panthers game yesterday and the national anthem was outstanding. The crowd gave the guy a great ovation.
That....was epic!

Do we have a resident OU fan on the board? Sad day that we don't...
-
Man I hate Akron... So many 3's that are impossible to guard
I freakin hate Akron!
Gosh I know I've said that about them numerous times in my fandom...

We're starting to lose some ground.

What Has Happened to the AK-Rowdies?

I wish I could have been there. But I think student attendance is a larger problem than just Akron. It's a generational thing perhaps?
