Though I agree our PG needs drastic improvement...I can't help but say...do you remember last year? Yes we were down a few players at the beginning of the year...but we managed to drop games against mediocre teams (Detroit...Coastal Carolina...) early as well as dropping games to a good team (Ok. St.). Even during the regular season WITH Abreu we looked, at times,...really, infuriatingly bad (Buffalo loss comes to mind).
St. Mary's is a pretty good team, and the score IMO is more a reflection on the absolutely ridiculous and absurd prospect of playing at 3:00am curtosey of ESPN, than it was huge problems with our team. We have the SAME problems I saw last year with the team, but they were often invisible because we'd win the game in the end. Controlling the ball, making free-throws and scoring off turnovers is STILL a problem for us. I almost feel that this team is the exact same team we fielded last year...a bipolar entity that needs to find it's true identity sooner rather than later.
Middle Tennessee will be a better measure of the Zips for me than a 3am game against a probably Top-25 later-in-the-year team. I was disappointed that I was up at 3am to watch an aggravating loss. But for 3/4 of the game we fought and bounced back.

Whenever I hear "Let's go GA-ELS" it sounds like they're shouting "Let's go Gay Ls"...just saying...
However, I'm sorry there have been some really, really, really bad calls against Akron this evening.
-
And here comes the disrespect on Tree's socks...Thanks announcers.
-
Way too many turnovers for the Zips...we've got to bank on the turnovers that we do get.

Obviously you were not at the game as in, in the arena. For if you were, you would have quickly noticed that the entire
overheard lighting was completely replaced with fast acting blue-white LEDs. No more dull yellow under tone. The new
lighting is far superior to the old incandescent bulb and bell shaped reflectors.
Actually, I was at the game. In the student section with the other students. I did think the lights looked newer and nicer, but after all the hype it was rather underwhelming. EXTREMELY underwhelming actually. Like I was thinking something a (in addition to the LED lighting over the court) more flashy...but perhaps that's my expectations when I heard UA was improving the game-day experience.
Perhaps it's my young eyes, but I only really noticed the yellow dull under-town while I watched on TV or from pictures.
I don't want to come across as overly critical...but there's always room to improve. We've taken a couple of steps in the right direction. I will say the "Bsketball Holiday Pack" that's being advertised seems like an EXCELLENT deal, especially for those of us graduating in December.

We would have lost by 30 to VCU rather than 46?
We would have beaten Costal last year...and Oklahoma State...and Detroit...giving us a better tournament draw. Oh, and probably beaten Buffalo too.

I was both unhappy and happy with last night's performance. My BIGGEST criticism was the overhyped "Renovations" they made to the JAR. When I heard "LED light displays" I expected more than a little fogger with blue lights...I was hoping for some ambient lighting where the fans are...but I suppose I'm expecting too much. "Think Bigger!...well...maybe not THAT big."

An actual building process of making education better and not building structures so presidents and ADs can put it on their resume for their next job.
Couldn't agree more.

I love this guy. And I know there's all those out there who believe he will be snatched once he improves Akron...but I don't agree. I think Bowden will end his career here.
Perhaps it's wishful thinking...or perhaps I've been
way too much...but everytime I hear anything about the guy, I get the feeling of a guy who's here for the long haul, not just a stepping stone to something else.

I would be pretty bummed if I was TB around the crowd/support this weekend. It is a rivalry game, Wagon Wheel trophy, good chance of victory, weather wasn't horrible, we win the game and the crowd was lethargic. I almost felt sorry for the PA announcer and the players trying to get the crowd going in the 4th quarter. If I were a recruit, I would not have been impressed. Picture of players getting Wagon Wheel below - look at stands on BOTH sides.
IDK that was actually a pretty good drawing for us, considering the attendance we did have over the past couple of years. And IDK what game you were at, but it was much colder than I anticipated, and I anticipated it being a cold game...wearing under armor and everything. Sorry, but weather does take it out of the crowd...especially when your a 2-7 team.
-
Should be 4-8 after this year. As strange as it sounds, that's gonna have me really excited going into next year. I think Bowden has us on the upswing, hope the recruits think the same.
I hope so too. I thought of this today; but the thing to note about this season is that we're beating the teams we're supposed to beat. (knock on wood of course UMASS is coming up) whereas last year we were not. We are playing teams that we aren't supposed to stand a chance against, to the last play of the game. This should be a relatively good selling point to recruits because it's Bowden who's gotten us there...just imagine where we're headed in one...two years.
The only thing that can cap off the season is an upset over Toledo. We've been knocking on the upset door all year, it's time to come away with one.

Im having trouble understanding why we are playing an exhibition against Malone in the middle of the season (if I am looking at it right).
"Middle of the season" is a bit of a hyperbole...it's 11/27 and after like the 3rd regular season game. I'd imagine it had something to do with the fact that both MTSU and SM games are sandwiched together and somewhat difficult games, and late night. So a breather perhaps was in order to regroup the team?

Today I polled my students on who they believed would win the Wagon Wheel this weekend. They picked AKRON 45-31 (of course thats individual vote count). GO ZIPS!!!

Hey Zipsnation, I'm an alumni that's a long time reader, first time poster.
I called to sign my son up for the recruiting event and I was told that the recruiting event before hand is sold out and we could only get game only tickets. Their secretary said that they have about 70 kids signed up for the recruiting event and more have called to get game only tickets.
I hope this helps some and that there is a good crowd cheering on the Zips for when we beat Can't!
Welcome!
And that's fantastic to hear!!

I think Skip is probably right and while I am hoping for a great crowd, I dont really see people turning out in droves to watch two 2-win ball clubs. Hope I am wrong. Seeing a large throng of Zips fans arriving early to perform their due diligence in the parking lot before the game will make me very happy. See you at 8.
IDK, I'm bringing a party of 23 college people to the game. Mix of Can't and Akron students, but we wouldn't miss it for the world! Snowing or not! I just hope others think like I do...I like when the stadium has people in it.

Akron 28
Can't 14

How awesome! Sounds fantastic! Go ZIPS

I think he should be our next Athletics Director.
Now THAT would be a good idea. And THAT would bring POSITIVE attention and a positive image to UA.
-
I feel he would be a great representative for our University.
I'm worried about the long-term damage that WILL do to our image. Of course the future is always filled with unknowns, but most people I talked too (whom are UAkron outsiders) saw the Tressel hire as a desperation move. Putting him as president would make him even more of a desperation move.
I suppose if in the long run he can bring in money and establish a larger endowment fund, that might be worth it...but honestly ALL of UA's problems could and should be fixed on the academic side IMO.

but I believe Buffalo is in for a hard fall soon. I know complaining about the schedule isn't viewed well in some circles but the Zips could have used a break this year. Zips to beat Can't State and UMass and end the season with 4 well deserved wins. I hope next year treats us a little better.
Last year I wrote down every conference game over the past ten years, and by trends that appeared ins scheduling, was able to predict our schedule with 100% accuracy. I was actually shocked how good my prediction was.
Going by that same method our opponents next year should be: OOC; Penn State, Marshall, Pitt, (?). Conference; Ohio, Can't, UMass, Buffalo, Miami, EMU, WMU, CMU. Which by all accounts this should be a 7-5 (or better) season.
We play Can't, Ohio, Miami every year, as well as Temple every year (UMass takes Temple's scheduling spot), Buffalo and BGSU alternate every couple of years on our schedule (usually 1v1 than two years off). And west teams are usually not faced 3x years in a row. Of course this is just based upon the trend I've seen.

In honor of the pending Halloween season, I came across this article about Kangaroos that have been known to eat whole brains of other animals, while I was looking for a weather report.
http://www.weather.com/news/science/nature...131022?pageno=9
People better think twice when messing with Zippy and the Zips, cause we'll eat your brains out!

By this story's account, it seems that all of my complaints about what UA could do better to make the student's game day better has been addressed. So...for the moment...kudos Athletic department, Kudos.

Is it just me, but I get a little angry when News sources call The University of Akron, Akron University. I mean can you guys actually fact check your copy BEFORE you publish?

I just played and defeated ball state 38-35 on ncaa 2014. By the way the receivers for akron on this game are TURRIBLE TURRIBLE TURRIBLE.
