My broom is out....GO ZIPS!

Rowdy...I'm off work at 4:30 and I work right across the street from the Winking Lizard.I'll be at the bar. Please don't make me go to Flannery's again. There were so many flushes in there I could hardly keep from

Please...lets stop the UA vs. Akron U thing. My resume reads The University of Akron. When I'm jammin' with my homeboys in the hood..I went to Akron U.Lets keep our perspective. The only thing that matters right now is beating Can't Statel, better known as Ravenna Community College!

Dials was an absolute stud tonight. After coming back from the locker room with his injury, he was mixing it up in the paint, forcing turnovers and slamming down 3's.You have to respect a player like that.
-
Well, if we don't trust them, what are our choices?I can't take a day off from work to demonstrate in front of Buchtel Hall....like it's going to do any good anyway.

I understand.Good point!
To me, it will never be a "Horseshoe". It will be a "U" or be "Open Ended".Sounds like he's the guy to lobby for a bowl or horseshoe. -
What about Mitch's on Exchange near the Board of Elections. I think it's torn down now.
The Two Turtles used to be Demarinie's, people got shot or stabbed there evry other weekend.. Do you remember Schroeder's (the only bar on campus)? I'm so old I remember high buttoned shoes.anybody remember the TWO TURTLES...not the animals...the bar...remember a guy named EARL "THE PEARL" MONROE?.. winston/salem state...ZIPS played 2x's one year I believe...late '60s...I believe once during the regular season...once in the NCAA tourney..Pearl shot 'em right out of the gym...unfortunately...nothin'like showing up 2hrs before a game at MEMORIAL HALL and sitting on the floor bleachers....talk about a home court advantage!!!...Bill Turner...played with the then San Francisco Warriors...Leonard Paul...Harvey Glover...a kid from Ellett..I believe...Bobby Smith?///oh well

If you're talking Carroll Street on the other side of route 8...the only thing I can remember down that was as Fondu Affair.
Was that the "Annadale"?what was the bar on carroll cross the street from the old tire place? many shots partaken there under age... -
I couldn't agree more:View from Google Earth:

I'll keep an open mind.Just as long as it's not small-time nor cheap-looking.I too will put faith in the track record of quality that the recent buildings on campus display. They really are top shelf.

Article on front page of the Beacon:http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/living/education/16850089.htmArticle quotes Ted Curtis, vice president of capital planning and facilities, as the UA guy who will be working with the construction manager to "massage" the drawings and come up with something that might be affordable.Sounds like he's the guy to lobby for a bowl or horseshoe.Perhaps a few tasteful, constructive e-mails from ZipsNation may be in order.

If you remember, Akron played OSU in '01, which was the first game for the refurbished Ohio Stadium. It was also Jim Tressel's first game as OSU coach. And I believe a young man named Charile Frye came in to play that game when the number 1 quarterback..forget his name...was injured.Hot, beautiful day...and we played pretty good that day.I couldn't believe how High Street has turned into a wasteland. We used to do road trips down there...and the nightlife was fantastic.Who could forget "Kegs and Eggs" at Papa Joe's the morning of a game?

You are right. The PD must have made a mistake.they have the men's and women's brackets right next to each other.they have the women and men both playing at noon and 2:30 p.m on Friday. I don't see how that can happen! So Friday is 7 and 9 p.m. for the men...correct?
Umm....I believe Friday's game is at 9PM.Thurs afternoon winners are at 7.There is a women's game at 2:30 on Friday.Plain Dealer still has Thursday's game at 7 p.m.Friday's game at 2:30 p.m. -
Just about every place around Gateway is packed with MAC fans.Yes, the Boneyard...a very extensive selection of draft beers..an entire wall of taps....food is fried stuff in plastic baskets though. We got food and some great, cheap beers at the Boneyard last year. It's right next to the Lizard. Not a long walk if the Lizard is too packed. I like at least checking out the Lizard because it is typically packed with MAC fans. It is a great atmosphere...and the beer selection is awesome too. -
Ahhh...The University Party Store.Back in the dark Division II ages (77 through 81) we frequented the University Party Store and purchase such quality beers as:KoehlerRed, White & BlueWiedemanGoebelRobin HoodIf the Party Store was closed, most would head over to May Brother's Market on E. Market Street where you could buy a pound of bologna and a six pack of generic beer for under four bucks. The good old days!I remember walking home from class and stopping at some on-campus convenient store and buying an dusty old 6-pack of Hudephol Gold to drink on my Annadale Avenue house while watching the game. I think that store is now an Alpha Phi Alpha frat house? -
Plain Dealer still has Thursday's game at 7 p.m.Friday's game at 2:30 p.m.

Yes it is...just try getting a cold one in under a half hour when it's like that. There are many, many watering holes within a block or two of the Q.Isn't the Winking Lizard usually packed on a consistent basis during MAC Tournament time? You'd think it would be since it's so close in proximity to the Q. -
The one on Huron has nothing to do with the one in Fairlawn. That particular one is not very consumer friendly when it's crowded.Hey, if that's where it is...far be it from me..I just haven't heard any consensus. Is that where it is? If so, I'm there. I'd like to meet some of you in person.

OK, so what's the feeling about an official Akron hangout for pre-tween-and after game activity?I hope it's not the Winking Lizard.I throw out these possibilities.Alice Coopers on 9thChampions on Bolivar near the Gateway Parking DeckHarry Buffalo on E. 4Aleci's on Huron RdThirsty Parrot in Caxton Build on Huron Rd.If you're feeling dangerousFlannery's on E. 4 & Prospect (Can't HQ)Clevelander on Huron Rd (OU HQ)Anyone else with ideas?

According the the flushes on the MAC board, Kennedy put a stop to it and it only happened, the F*** you chant, only once after the Rowdies started the Can't Sucks cheer.those in attendance...true?Liang Kennedy(sp?) was standing next to the Can't State student section when the fingers started flying and when they started doing the F*** Akron chant. I don't know if he yelled at them or simply ignored them, although considering his position I would expect him to have told the students to stop. I know that if the AK-Rowdies did that in the JAR, we would be banished to the rafters. -
I closed my eyes each time they went to the line in OT...I couldn't take it.But make no mistake, making those free throws was the key.I can't believe that players don't spend more time practicing their free throws.Everyone should have to make 25 in a row before going home from practice.but if they had made all them free throws during regulation we wouldnt have had to go into the OT..... but im with you, they made them when they had to! -
Sure sounds like it.So much for proof reading. That's OK, as long as he got the score right!I like it all except for this part
Is it just me or are they saying that Dials passed the ball to (Omni) Smith... who is a flush?Dials rushed the ball up the floor, drove the right side and whipped his pass in the lane to Smith for the game-winner. -
