  1. I'm not really in favor of a multiple-team playoff, but I am willing to give the new system a chance, since they profess that SOS will play a much bigger factor. This crap where this team down in Cowlumbus gets to the verge of playing in title games frequently, when they play nobody, has to end.
  2. No doubt. These two teams were in a whole different class than the Suckeyes, and they almost wiggled their way into this game anyway. I'm so happy this BCS system is ending. I especially would like to see the AP voters start next season more sense than they did this year. I loved seeing a team other than the SEC win a title, finally. I think it also sheds a bigger light on the ACC in particular, and I think they may benefit greatly from this.
  3. I already touched on this earlier in the thread. An overall schedule strength similar to OSWHo? YES. But, Florida State beat a #7 and a #3 team during the season, and the #3 was on the road in front of a national TV audience. Yep, the same Clemson team that played OSWho. And FSU blew them out at their place. And none of their games all year were close. Huge difference between FSU's resume, and OSWho's.
  4. Let me tell you one way to look at it: They've won 1 football title in the last 46 years, and that was on a bad pass interference call, after the final whistle had blown and everyone was walking off the field. And they've won NO basketball titles in the last 56 years. But, if you listen to their bandwagon, robot-like fans, you'd never guess that. They claim superiority year after year after year, and it doesn't work out. The truth is, they've been right once in the last 102 opportunities to substantiate their greatness with an actual title, and those who disagree have been right 101 out of 102 times.
  5. GP1....You're right on the money with this assessment. And if it bothers you this much, you probably can only wonder what it's like living here in Ohio.
  6. This is an outstanding post. It doesn't get talked about enough. THIS is the reason why they have an unfair advantage at the beginning of the season. It's unsubstantiated, and should never happen.
  7. Instead, they add Maryland and Rutgers....LOL Actually, Missouri likely wouldn't have gotten nearly the help they got by joining the SEC. Just look at Nebraska, which has pretty much slipped into obscurity since joining the Little 10. And I actually thought Nebraska would help the Little 10's plummeting stature.
  8. Beyond just showing that they were nowhere near as good as their over-bloated ranking (which had basically been there since the pre-season), one could also continue to make the argument that you just flat-out are not prepared to play a decent team when you've been playing cupcakes for 3 months. Even putting coaches into a pressure cooker situation that they have not faced all year makes critical play calling and time management an untested entity. I'm all in favor of what's been suggested here, which is that teams don't get a ranking until half way through the season. If that had happened this year, the OSWho-loving media would obviously not have put them at the #2 spot. Although, some writers did allow the light bulb to turn on at some point by allowing 4 teams to leapfrog them. We'll see how this shakes out in August. Mizzou had an unbelievable year. If a few plays go another way against Auburn, they'd be playing for the title. But, I think you'll still find them in the #2 spot in the final polls. I'm sure that will boost their program incredibly.
  9. That didn't last.
  10. This article touches on the two times this year that I felt like Pohl showed some big-time potential. The 2nd half against Michigan, and the Toledo game. However, it calls Michigan his "breakout game". That ended up not being the case. The season didn't end up being a progression of improvement for him, even though we started winning. In fact, one could argue that his two worst performances were games #10 and #11, right before the Toledo game.
  11. Pat plays hard, but misses a lot of shots from point blank range. Also has trouble getting his hands around rebounds. Sorry. Very frustrating. He misses so many opportunities to contribute more. Especially on the offensive end, I'd MUCH rather have Big Dog on the floor, or the Harney/Kretzer/Treadwell front line.
  12. At one time, well into the game, these two guys and Harney had almost all of our points. How strange is that?? Good thing we still know how to play defense.
  13. I'm sure we agree on plenty of things!! I did say recently that I thought Carmelo would work his way back into more playing time. And I found it interesting on the postgame show on Tuesday, when Keith indicated that he can run more set plays with Carmelo on the floor. That indicates to me that his knowledge is still very valuable to us. I just think there's an uneasiness about him that causes him to make some really crazy errors when he's out there. He'll have to work that out. Then, maybe we have the best of both worlds with these two contrasting individuals at that position.
  14. If that were correct it would sure make coaching and recruiting a lot easier. The truth is, there are many good basketball teams that don't have point guards. But, we'll see how it all works out for the Zips. There's plenty of other problems that Keith has to iron out right now, and Nyles sure seems to be performing well now, compared to other newbies that were seeing action at that position for the first time. Hopefully, we can still get some quality minutes again from Carmelo now too.
  15. As my post pointed out, did we blame the Quincy situation for our losses early last year? I don't think we did. I'm just trying to figure out why so many people are looking in the past this year, but didn't seem to do the same thing last year when we unexpectedly lost probably our best player.
  16. Short memory? We only scored 65 points, so if you are saying that we snuck up on OU with some unpredictable offensive game plan that surprised them, it didn't work.
  17. Players come and go. Coaches get paid a lot of money to put the pieces back together again, develop new chemistry, put guys in more important roles than they had before, etc. It's his job to do this every year, and he's done it quite well for a decade now. Maybe this appears to be an especially challenging group, so he'll really earn his money. The only part that is different, and so unfortunate, is that we lost an important backcourt player a year before we were prepared to replace him. But, I'm getting a feeling that people are starting to lean on this heavily as an excuse. It came up in the postgame interview last night, and the fans have brought it up repeatedly over the last month. Why is this any more of a challenge than unexpectedly losing a player to injury for a year? And for God's sake, we unexpectedly lost possibly the best player on the team for the 2012-2013 season, and came out of that just fine. Then we unexpectedly got him back this year, which was a bonus. And How come this didn't come up when we blew out OU in Cleveland in March? Something we never did when Alex was part of our starting lineup. There's plenty of talent on this team to win plenty of games. I just think it's going to take a little longer than usual to get their heads in the right place this year.
  18. Keith is really ripping into Quincy over there on the bench after that crazy, off-balance 3-pointer.
  19. It's not a new problem either. Quincy was a wing or small forward with the ability to get to the rim and score, before he gradually started taking on more duties in the backcourt. Before him, when was the last time we had a "wing" with that kind of athletic ability? Maybe never? M. Boyce in 85 thru 87 maybe? At one time, it appeared like B. McKnight might be headed in that direction. Sorry, I just can't think of a player at that position with the ability to excel at both.
  20. Those restrooms are not inside the Tommy Evans Lounge.
  21. According to the discussions I have had with internal people, the biggest concern would remain that you have to walk in front of seats (on the track). And in order to change that, seating would have to be reduced significantly to move the walking concourse to an area behind the seats. That's the Catch 22. In addition, there would still be no luxury areas (such as a lounge) from which to view the game, so finding a way to alter the lower level to provide that is a challenge as well.
  22. What? I'm informing you that his frequency of substitution is not just when someone is playing poorly.
  23. Incorrect. He doesn't just sub out the guys who did something wrong. Where have you been?
  24. I think many of us know the situation in terms of the money and the city vs. university relationship on this matter. This article simply does the job of updating us on current thoughts from those involved. The idea of increased attendance comes up all the time (me included) because this is the only thing we can do as fans that could influence and expedite a more immediate NEED for a new arena for UA basketball. As I've said many times over the years, this is likely 10 years away from reality. And reading this article, and the discussions I've had with people in the athletic dept. indicate that we're no closer than we were a few years ago. My gut feeling is that a continuation of improvements to Rhodes Arena will be the solution, especially since it still seems as if the University will remain on their own on this.
  25. Good point. And very timely. See today's Beacon Journal for some additional insight on the current status of those facilities.
