Maybe he's being used as a decoy to occupy opposing defenses to open up opportunities for our other receivers, so our QB can complete 16 of his 54 passes in our two games against 1A opponents. I think it's working Seems like a waste to see him running routes out there all game long while passes keep sailing over receiver's heads or into the ground, while we watch our DBs struggle on the other side of the ball.

If the SEC isn't the best conference, which is? I would lean to the Big 12...you probably disagree. The Big 10 lost 2of3 against the PAC10 yesterday and was an extra point miss away from possibly losing 3of3. The Big 10 and the darling of the Big 10 and Kirk Herbstreit, tOSU, will be exposed for being frauds by the end of the season. I wouldn't put them at the top. I'm not a big 10 fan, but I would like to see an SEC school play tOSU in the shoe in the winter time. those guys never have to play in cold snowy weather and because of that have an advantage over schools who have to have game plans that involve cold non speed conducive weather. I would like the medium ten to stop scheduling so many MAC schools and Marshall. A middle of the pack SEC school like Tennessee (similiar budget) would dominate the medium ten. If only the Browns could play Tressel's schedules, they would dominate. Texas, USC, and Miami Fl. agree with you. That is who OSU has had on the schedule the last 5 years and they have won their share of them too. On the other hand Florida playing all of the little sisters of the poor also agrees with you. Some of the ignorance on this board is utterly amazing to me. You guys attack a team you hate, but ignore the fact that other teams you compare them to do the same things and even worse, but you don't mention that. Some of you guys really let your hatred cloud your ability to make a rational post. Yes, many of the B10 teams play MAC teams. That is a regional thing. Just as the SEC, PAC10 and all the rest play out of conference games against weaker opponents. Look for yourself at the SEC teams pre-conference schedules. The B10 has 6 teams in the top 20 right now. I hardly call that Medium10... It is true though that the SEC doesn't come north to play games? Tennessee would domimate the B10..ROFLMAO. More ignorance and not having a clue about college football. Funny how Minny, Wisci, Iowa all went out west this week to face top 20 teams. When was the last time Florida, LSU, Alabama did that? When was the last time any of them came north? I do agree though that if the Browns played a college schedule they would dominate. That takes an intelligent being to state the obvious. I won't even visit this thread anymore as I know the morons will come in full force now. Others start the crap, I respond and then the idiots all attack me. To this day, I have still never, ever started an OSU thread. Yet, I have ignored many. I apologize if some of you are too intolerant to accept someone that has 2-Alma-Mater. I would defend UA on the OSU boards if I had to, but posters there aren't as ignorant as some here. They usually say good things about UA and want other Ohio teams to succeed. Same old, same old. Won their share of them? If you elimnate Miami from this year, a team that is just now getting decent again, I believe your beloved Buckeyes are 1-4 in recent years against those other two teams you mention, Texas and USC. And if you throw in the two blowout losses against SEC teams LSU and Florida, your're at an impressive 1-6 mark.

He looked pretty bad. However, he's still a better quarterback than Rogers is...Do you recall how awful he was at CMU last year? Seriously? Do you mean the CMU game last year, where Matt completed 63% of his passes, ran for 2 TDs, and we scored 21 points? And it was only his 2nd start at QB? After 12 or so games of Nicely, what do we really have to hang our hats on at this point? Can we do any worse? I don't like any of our options right now, but with Matt's playmaking ability, the fact that he at least throws passes that can be caught, and knowing that he's only had a few starts, I can't see why we wouldn't seriously consider a giving him a chance to do something with this offense.

Unfortunately, when we're saying this here, we're preaching to the choir. It's the other 10,000-20,000 people, or however many decide to show up, that need to get the message

The main discussion here about the Zips need for PGs is not so much for the upcoming season, but for the 2011-12 season and beyond, at which time both Roberts and McNees will both be long gone from the team. I'm not as concerned about our PG depth this year as I am our overall guard depth. We only have four guards listed on scholarship right now. One is an unknown commodity (Abreu), one I consider to be a complete bust (McClanahan) and only two have proven to be consistent producers (McNees and Roberts). Steve and Daryl can't be expected to play all 40 minutes the entire season. Abreu is going to have to step in right away and play some significant minutes, or we will need McClanahan to have a Jimmy Conyers type season. Quincy Diggs has also been listed by some as a guard, but is listed on the official roster as a forward. He is an unknown commodity as well, but if necessasry hopefully he could take up some slack at SG. Next year is a whole different story. My concerns about our PG depth next year have been well documented, but at the same time it is still a long way away. This is pretty much what I am seeing with our overall guard situation. I'm certainly not trying to make the point that Steve might be a better SG than a PG. That might be the case. But, I still expect that our coach will see that Steve running his offense, and being our floor leader, will be the best option we have this year.

I think that should happen!! We need to get our student fanbase recognized outside of Akron too. And for God's Sake, would you start filling the seats behind the baskets at the basketball games for a game other than Ken+?

Many would read this and not see the sarcasm. I think it is funny. Nice work. Our offense had 31 points at the end of the 3rd quarter. What that tells me is they can score points....a big concern of mine after only putting up 3 against Syracuse. Against a I-AA team they should have had 45 at the end of the game. I could care less what happens against KY and IN. I still think this team can win. They need to get their heads out of their butts at crunch time and play well. The MAC schedule is just around the corner. Let's see how they do. They need to execute when it matters. What it tells me is that we had some success blocking them, and some successs running and passing because they were an inferior opponent.

I see a lot of talk about talent and recruiting. YES, I agree that a BIG part of the equation is having the best talent. But that also presents the biggest question mark about iCoach: If he effectively recruited at ND, does it mean he can effectively recruit for a MAC school?
-
Kentucky is much better than Syracuse, I'm afraid. Ouch. I'm guessing Kentucky will score on roughly 2/3 of their possessions, and 2/3 of those scores will be TDs. We'll get a couple of scores on their defense, but I think they might be later in the game. Kentucky 41-13 (Akron misses a short field goal and an extra point)
-
That's my point too. And add Michigan to that list. And since Michigan is in the Big 11, add the entire conference. As I've said before, there are going to be examples of I-AA teams beating I-A teams, and there are going to be examples of low-level I-A teams beating BCS-level teams. If these individual game results are the proof someone is going to use, then you can just as easily say that MAC teams belong in a major BCS conference too.

hahaha Hopefully, first bone of many... The Akron Zips will receive the ball in at least one half of every ball game under iCoach from this point on. It's unfortunate that I have to say this. But. That would be a good start.

Here's how I'm feeling today: Coach: I'm not wasting my time debating whether he should be fired, because it's not going to happen. But I am VERY concerned about what I've seen from him, and I don't think Akron should be an "on the job training location" for college coaches. Offense: I'm feeling slightly better about them after Week 2, mainly because of the effectiveness of the running game, and because we completed some passes. I figure, at least they can move the ball against somebody this year, even if its an average I-AA team. It's at least better than I felt after week one. Defense: I'm feeling even worse after the 2nd game. How can you feel any better? I'm looking for something positive, and I can't find it anymore. Kicking Game: Making a 48 yard field goal, and missing a short field goal, and having an extra point blocked in the same game? What can you say? It's a complete guess on how things will be executed every time they step on the field.

The Captain said Nicely is a solid QB. It's a fact. The Captain said our OL can't pass protect, our WR's suck, our special teams suck, and our coaching, to-date, has sucked. That is truth. Truth and facts always mess with a guy that fawns over Charlie Frye's Iowa game. Where Iowa called off the dogs after being up on Charlie 37-0 after 15 minutes. Yes, that was 37 - 0 after one quarter. Gheezus... do you think everyone on this board was born yesterday? Maybe some of the newbies can be mesmorised by weak hyperbole, but don't pull that garbage with someone who knows facts and history. Amazing. Within the same post, I see criticism of a former Zips QB who had some admirable performances against some BCS-level schools, and subsequently broke nearly every Akron passing record on his way to the NFL........and praise for a present QB who, over the past two seasons, has shown us only a couple of dim signs of any kind of ability whatsoever against 1-A bottom-dwellers Ken+ and Eastern Michigan, and I-AA Gardner-Webber. And I'm old, and have been involved in athletics at the U of A for almost 3 decades.

You might think that, but the money issue forces schools like us have to be A LOT more patient.

I wouldn't even consider him. And it has more to do with my feelings I have about what he did and said during the time he was here. InTheZone...I don't dispute that you see some positives in the fact that he's done some good at a school that used to be bad. I get that. But, I was merely disputing the fact that you put him in a "took a bad program and made them a winner right away" category. I'll take your word for it that he's made them better than they were. But, I don't see a guy with an awful record at a DII school even remotely being considered for any higher level job, and certainly not a D-1A job. Is ITZ Paul winters No I'm not, but a disclaimer, as most already know, Paul Winters was my coach when I played, and is a close friend now. I think he would do an incredible job if he came back, certainly better than the stooge we have running the show now, but if I were AD, he wouldn't be my first choice, which is why I put him at 3 You might be right, but unfortunately we're stuck with him for awhile. And I do respect your thoughts on Winters. I just wouldn't want him. Faust: He was hired to come here to do a difficult job, turning a I-AA into a I-A for the first time, with limited scholarships, and very little facilities, money, etc. to work with. I think people give him a lot more credit now for what he accomplished under really adverse circumstances, and I'm happy to see that. Unfortunately, we had to face another 15+ years of difficulty to give him the respect he deserved.

Fixed it for you. Good fix. Thank you sir.

I recall reading a lot of comments before the season started about our talent. I didn't see it. And despite some limited excitement regarding "new formations", I think I am seeing that even the optimists are slowly getting on board with the idea that we may not have the personnel to get the job done. I agree with Captain that 0-12 looks more realistic than 4-8. And even though I didn't anticipate a good season, I didn't feel that way 2 weeks ago. I do now. And our schedule isn't going to help. With 2 BCS teams on the road, and an October full of teams expected to be some of the better teams in the MAC, we could easily be taking our kids trick-or-treating before we get our first win. And will our players even want to put forth the effort to win anymore once we do reach some of those more winnable games in November? One thing is certain. Our coaching and our personnel is questionable at this point. And sadly, we just failed to win one of the few games on our schedule that we actually have the ability to win.

4 wins in two seasons means Ianello will have to win 4 games next year....yeah right. What made you think my comment had to do with defending Ianello? Go back and read.

You'll be wrong. Unless you plan on seeing 10,000 people at a soccer game this year. Because, that was the attendance for our final home football game last season, at the end of a horrible season, in freezing cold weather. I was at that game against EMU. There were maybe 4,000 people actually there. I'm talking actual attendance, not "announced" attendance. Trimmy. I know what you're trying to say. I make the same argument on here all the time....attendance vs. how many people are in the stands. But, what are you going to do? Count people? And I am sure soccer counts their attendance the same way, with tickets sold.
-
Sorry to inform you that Syracuse had 430 yards of offense against us.
-
You might want to check your facts on Winters. He has only had 2 winning seasons in 6 years at a DII school, and only won a TOTAL of 4 games in his first two seasons, and has a dismal overall record.

A Rover? Sorry, but we gave up that opportunity this season in order to have an extra guy up front to put more pressure on the QB Once again folks, nothing was going to change. We still have 11 guys on the field who can't make enough plays to contain the 11 guys on the offensive side of the ball. If any of you expected major differences because one of those 11 guy was now going to have his hand on the ground instead of standing upright, I don't understand what you were thinking.
