I'll bet that's exactly what B McKnight said after his father "discussed" this with him. While not what you'd like to see from a senior team leader, let's hope it turns into a positive motivation rather than putting him in a season-long funk. In the short term, this will give all the incoming front court recruits more PT early on -- not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe my biggest concern is that he never "appeared" to be a guy who ran up and down the court displaying a great deal of endurance. And if my observation is correct, missing basically the entire conditioning/practice part of the season may be a very bad thing for him. Especially if he has "grown" a little bit in the off-season, like many guys tend to do.

Agreed. Of all games, it happened in the Murray State game. I think they could have afforded to give him a rest for a big part of that one.

Good man. 99% of OSU fans are bandwaggon jumping lemmings. If they say, "I'm not a lemming, I like them because I live in Ohio," simply ask them, "Oh, really? Well just how many Ohio University shirts do you own?" Morons. Gotta be a real fan to be a Zips' fan, baby. Being a Zips' fan ain't for wimps. Great point.

UA buys the Plasma building!

Great news!! I think that will go a long way towards cleaning up that very visible area along Exchange. -
I love when I get that response too. The bandwagon fans are always my biggest issue. But that's ok. Those that didn't go to school there, or didn't go to college at all, but act as if they are "Buckeyes" explains a lot of what we witness. I do admit that the players/fans of OSU probably take more of a beating than those of "lower tier" universities. But, you would think that some of these folks would also take that as a responsibility to hold themselves to a higher standard as well. I say, if you want to self-proclaim yourself as the top dog of college athletics, with all of that "THE Ohio State University" crap, then you need to also accept that all of the mishaps are going to be equally magnified. And if my knowledge of history is correct, Ohio U. was around long before Ohio State.

I think the biggest factor here is that they've been forced to remove Terry from an already-thin receiving corp and move him back to RB. We can't lie to ourselves. Without a healthy Jarvis in the game, we have a better chance of winning. So we might have been a 24 point underdog with Jarvis in the lineup? Speaking of the line, it's shifted slightly to 17.5 pts. Fred must be putting down a bundle on this one. Well...it does make you wonder if the 17 points is a Jarvis Plays, or Jarvis Does Not Play number If it is a Jarvis Is Not Going To Play number, we are getting a totally embarrassing lack of respect.

The similarities are interesting. And for our sake, I hope the scenario turns out the same this week. However, I certainly wouldn't put Syracuse/Indiana/Kentucky in the same class as Penn State and Virginia. And I'd probably put an even larger gap between Gardner Webb and Middle Tennesee, considering MTSUs success in the 1-A Sun Belt, and the fact that Gardner Webb is maybe not even an average I-AA team.
-
If nothing else, this is the one thing we have going for us this week!!!! And the Captain makes mention of this as well. Despite the fact that they gave us a serious beatdown at their place in 2006, Ken+ has rarely beaten us in the more recent years of this rivalry, and they have to carry that losing mentality into every game against us. You always have to give us a chance to win this game knowing that we have a mental edge because we've OWNED these guys.

First. Regardless of how you might feel about his coaching ability, Gerry had to mold a D-1A program from a small roster full of 1-AA players, without being able to match the total scholarship players of our 1-A competitors for several years, and with absolutely no facilities. Yet, we posted a winning record in only our 3rd year of 1-A football, and were very competitive initially in the MAC, and nearly won it (I think that was our 5th 1-A season). In fact, Gerry's 7-3-1 record that year still has not been matched in the 18 years since. With all things considered, how can we be all that disappointed that we became the first school to successfully transition to 1-A, and actually had some successful stretches during those years? I only have a problem with where we've gone since that point. What have we done to grow even more? The answer is, we haven't. Our next coach failed to even match Gerry's minor level of success despite improvements in our situation. Sometimes you get a feeling early on about how things are going with a coach. I had a bad feeling about LO after his first year when he took a roster of 16 (I think) returning starters and won only 2 games. And we would have several more losing seasons in a row before we saw some level of success. With JD, I think most of us had a good feeling, especially when we had a very competitive opening campaign, and lost Frye, but had a better season the following year. With CoachI, I am getting the same feeling I had with LO. I agree with you that coaching evaluations often come down to "good direction" or "bad direction". When Gerry looked to be headed in a bad direction late in his tenure here, he had to go. So, where are we headed now? When the direction is spiraling downward, even in the first 1/2 season, you have to start questioning things. I don't know when the right time is to pull the plug, but I certainly don't ever again want to see mediocrity rewarded with contract extensions that we can't get out of. Even with the budget issues involved, I'm simply getting too old to watch a bad situation fester for several years with no foreseeable light at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately, we know all too well that arm strength is only one piece of a very big puzzle of what it takes to be a good QB. And that's not to say that we should be giving every other QB on our roster a chance. But, with our running game being very effective over the last couple of games, I would think our opportunities in our air attack would be opening up substantially. I'm just done trying to put a value on our QBs physical attributes, and continuing to wait for "development" after 15 or so games. I want to see if we have a guy on this roster who can get the ball to receivers with simply a reasonable amount of consistency. I don't think that's asking much.

No doubt. We can't afford to wait 2-3 for guys to "develop" at this point, or we're going to have a very painful era of Zips football upcoming. QB Mike Johnson and DB Victor Green are just a couple of guys who come to mind who stepped in here and became instant stars after spending their first two years at a JC. We need a lot of help, and we need it now.
-
The sad thing is, it seemed like the students had no interest in going to football games BEFORE we even lost a game this year. The turnout for the Syracuse game already showed us that. Were they already seeing where this season was going?
-
Transferring? When two senior RBs will be leaving us at the end of this year? Does anyone know more about this?
-
I'm not liking the sound of this. If this is the direction in which we're headed, it could be a loooooong time before we recover.
-
This years team might be experienced, but I would have to disagree with you on the fact of being talented. They have played for 1 -3 or more years with a losing program, and with just an exception or 2, there are NO outstanding players on this team. Some of you might say differently, but looked at the records of not just this year, but the last few years. Then the simple questions would be........if there are so many starters who are no good, then what does it say about the guys on the bench who will be replacing them as starters next year?
-
It's almost more than I can stand to stomach, but if you look at our senior personnel, it's not a stretch to think that this year's team should be better than next year's team. Makes me want to
-
Amen. I think that's a good first step. We need to at least get ourselves back to the point we were at about 4 years ago, where we won both regular season matchups, and won again in the MAC tournament. This reminds me of a debate some people had on here recently where some questioned whether we should recruit to match up against Ken+. And the answer should be an emphatic....HECK YEAH !!!!
-
I'm pretty sure winning the MAC Championship nets you a bowl bid regardless of your record. You must be talking about next year, though. Next Year? A year that, unlike this year, where we actually will have some significant personnel losses? We'll lose our two best RBs, a couple of our best OLs, two WRs, and some pretty good and experienced DLs and LBs? Yikes. Like I said yesterday, if this guy can recruit, NOW would be a good time to start, or I think we are in for a really rough next couple of years !!!!

It's just my opinion, but I don't think Keith is anywhere near the runner that Chandler Harnish is. Spencer Keith's Stats Chandler Harnish's Stats I seem to recall LOSING to K.E.N.T. as a 17 point FAVORITE once. Marcel Weems days? Game at K.E.N.T.? Anyone else recall? Wow. That's really surprising to me. I've seen both of them play, and Keith appears to be a lot more mobile to me. But I am sure glad we don't have to chase around Edelman anymore. Johnny...I hope someone can recall the game you might be referring to. I'd just be really surprised if either Ken+ or Akron has ever been a 17 point favorite in this game.
-
I've thought about this from time to time and we have been able to avoid any big injuries so far. I'm just not sure what that means Unfotunately, I think it means that there is no other excuse for why we are losing so badly except that the other teams are just that much better than us.
-
I always hate trying to predict this game. We had a surprise win against them at home last year that I don't think anyone expected. We also got a serious beatdown from them at Ken+ right after winning the MAC title (one of my most embarrassing moments as a Zips fan). Another tidbit of concern is that we are probably facing a QB that has much more ability to run than the QBs we've faced so far this year. As if we need another problem trying to account for people defensively. I want to know if there's even been an Akron/Ken+ game with a 17 point underdog. Embarrassing.

http://www.thetaphouseakron.com/ He's a businessman who needs to eat and pay the bills. Few Zips show up for the shows. He's a Zip fan. What would you have the guy do? I get it. I'm not saying the guy should not paint his bar whatever color he wants. I'm just embarrassed that WE are doing an AKRON ZIPS coaches show from a bar painted in Ohio State colors.
-
The guy came from a losing program at Notre Dame. Easily in excess of a million fans "down" on the program and staff. Every loss was nationally televised. Now he's facing 3 Zips fans on Waterloo Road, and they're more interested in free wings than football. While I appreciate his availability, it is as gutsy as walking a foot-high tightrope over a tupperware container full of minnows. I think he'll survive. Excitement regarding Zips football is at an all-time low. And that's really saying something. My question for the guy - "After witnessing what has been on display the first 3 home games of the season, why should I come back for game 4? What is going to change?" Question #2: "Will you beat K.e.n.t. State?" Perfect! One Correction: There might be 3 true Zips fans, and they will pay attention. The other 20 people in there don't care about the Zips, and will be eating their free wings, not paying any attention at all, and will be talking to each other about Cowlumbus State and the Browns and complaining that they can't hear the TV over Coach I's interview.
