  1. Sounds good to me. We don't know how good Indiana is, and we don't know much about ourselves right now either.I hope this game starts to tell us a lot more.....and I hope it's good
  2. I guess if I had a preference, I would rather NOT be favored. It makes it a lot more exciting to win a game you are not supposed to win, for both the players and the fans. Frankly, I expected us to be the underdog. We're a team that has not played well in MAC play the last few years, and a team I expect to be one of the best in our conference this year (Western) just got beat by Indiana. I guess it shows just how little respect Indiana, and their conference, are getting these days.
  3. Zach...when I first read this, I have to be honest, I thought you were joking about what he said. That is just unimaginable...and not the first time he's said something that's made me shake my head.Like I've always said about this guy....if it quacks like a duck, and walks like a duck.....it's a duck.
  4. Hoban's kicker is the real deal, he could probably start for us tomorrow.Name me a good high school place kicker who WOULDN'T be able to start for us tomorrow.
  5. Hopefully his sister will play the lead role in his recruiting! C'mon Kara, we're counting on you. He was also an Akron assistant under the previous coach.
  6. +1 Didn't we just build a nice stadium on campus???? And skip is right, Columbus State fans would show up. I don't want them at a Zips game. Stay away. We want to build a fan base of Zips fans starting with our students, IMO we do that every time we have a game at The Info. Get as many games there as you can. In five or six years we will have triple the alumni at the games. That's where it's at!You know....you're right. Those Cowlumbus State fans would probably show up and root for us......wearing their Suckeye gear. We don't want that. But if we got a chance to play Michigan, I'd rather it be in Cleveland than in Ann Arbor. The problem is, with Michigan's new expansion, they can now fit a major American city inside that place. So, there really is no incentive for them to play for a good payoff at a "much smaller" Browns stadium.
  7. Hmmm....a game against Michigan at Brown's Stadium??? I think a lot of Suckeye fans would show up and root for us. That could work.
  8. I could never root for the guy, and I wish for him to play poorly, but feel badly for any athlete who has to get that kind of news. There's no hope for Can't State now. Oh...wait...their one linebacker predicted in the newspaper that they'd win the MAC
  9. Just my honest thoughts....1) Because of the "festive" atmosphere, I think people got into what the band was doing more than usual. I thought the "Big A" thing got a nice roar from the crowd.2) Over the years, I've often used halftime to try to sneak to the parking lot to have a few more beverages, chat with some friends, or make a run to the facilities...sorry.3) I stayed right in my seat for the halftime show. First time I have done that in years. And I don't recall hearing anything on the field that got me excited or inspired....sorry. But, I clapped often to show my appreciation for the efforts.
  10. You might not have to worry about that as much after the Suckeyes just lost their 6th game in a row to a high-ranked team. Now that they are out of the Top-10, many of their fair-weather fans might actually go back to rooting for their "real" alma maters.
  11. I'll be interested to see the official word on Bruce. From my vantage point, he was pointing at his collar bone coming off the field. Then he slammed his helmet and knocked a few things around down there. I hate to say it, but that's normally a sign that someone knows that something is really wrong. He sat down for a few minutes, and then was escorted to the locker room. I hope we didn't just lose him, but it didn't look good.
  12. WOW...I'm sure yesterday's excitement had many of us paying little attention to what was going on around our conference, but some really interesting things happened.1) CMU's win over Michigan State in Lansing is HUGE for our conference. 2) I'm stunned at the way BG played against ranked Missouri. I was counting on them being a non-factor in the East. 3) Would have really liked to have seen EMU pull off that win over Northwestern. 4) Regardless of what people think about Colorado, Toledo provided a noticable win for our league. 5) Indiana will provide a big challenge for us next week, if they play the way they did against a WMU team that I expect to be good in MAC play. 6) And as always....no surprise here....Can't State is still Can't State
  13. no surprise, our own crowd didn't care too much about the game either considering 1/3 of them left by the middle of the third quarter.I'm sure the score had something to do with it. But, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that there was probably a good number of people who just wanted to come and enjoy the new stadium, didn't really care much about Akron football, and wanted to make sure they got back home and to a bar/party to watch the Suckeye/USC game. If any of these people truly turn into what we can call "fans", we'll know if they are still coming for home games later in the season.
  14. Please God...just don't give us the weather we had prior to the Ball State game last year. That will surely prevent a sellout crowd.
  15. Let me make sure I am not misunderstood here...Is it every wise to punch someone...noShould it be tolerated by his school?...noBut, was it provoked?....in my opinion, yes
  16. That's just about my take on it. Punching someone is stupid.....but by no means did it appear unprovoked, according to the footage.
  17. The BG score surprised me since Troy WAS considered by most to be the best in the Sun Belt this year. Can't judge from just one game, but maybe...just maybe...the MAC can claim to be better than the other bottom-rated conference in D-1A.There's might not seem like there is much to conclude from the Can't State game, considering the level of opponent. But, I did find two things very, very interesting. They were 1-13 on 3rd down conversions, and were only able to rush for 3.6 yards per carry. Very, very interesting.
  18. That one was pretty easy .. from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Right on their websitehttp://www.coastal.edu/about/chanticleer.htmlThanks MD. I just was too busy at the time to look it up and post it By the way...Prediction: Chaticleers - 21Ugly Bird With Teeth - 20
  19. I remember us playing them in basketball a couple of decades ago, and they tried to explain on the radio what the nickname means. It has something to do with a name mentioned in a famous novel or something.Research team...go to work.
  20. Honestly....we caught a somewhat high-profile program during a bad period in their history last year. I hope we can repeat it again, for good measure. But, with all due respect to one of my best friends, who grew up in the Syracuse area (who I have turned into an avid Zips fan over the last 25 years), I have to say that we should just enjoy this while we can.
  21. I'm going to stay away from the strategy, and leave that to the coaches. Whether we can run on them, pass on them, etc., really is not what it takes to score this kind of upset in my opinion. Lets face it...this will be a game where it will seem as if plenty of what we do offensively will not work, and most of what we are doing defensively is not working. But, you can still win a game like that, if you make key plays. A big tackle on a 3rd down play that forces a punt when they looked to be driving. An athletic knock-down of a pass that forces a field goal when a touchdown looked certain. An interception in the back of the end zone after a 70 yard drive. And most of all.....somehow find a way to have guys with somewhat fresh legs to make plays at the end of the game.It will take a defensive effort similar to Cincinnati last year, or Ohio State in 07 to even remotely have a chance. But, I'll likely be pleased if we just at least look like we are a legitimate 1-A team and keep it respectable, as we did out in State College in 06.
  22. ?Looks like you lost the train of thought there. Within 5 years, 10? Sooner? Is it possible that the arena location was already mentioned to OBC? I've heard rumors they are moving into the the Kaiser building and from what I've seen the arena could be built next door to that.I wanted news on how Zeke is doing, how he is adjusting to classes, if they had to custom fit his dorm door... Corrected. 4 years. I was waiting to hear the response to the question of the number of years as well.Captain...thanks for sharing all of this with us. It's almost like a transcript of the proceedings. You were either taking notes, or have one heck of a memory.1) I'll remain very surprised if this new arena happens anywhere near that quickly. I'm thinking more like 10 years, at best. And most of the people I talk with seem as if they don't believe, when it comes right down to it, that the city can possibly justify their portion of the expense. And certainly not with some sort of low-level pro hockey team. I'd have to agree with that. Even though, I'd love to see it happen tomorrow. 2) Ahh...the Nevada basketball game. I wasn't there. I was leaving town very, very early the following morning to travel to see family for the holidays. I was stunned at the low attendance at the time. But, upon further thought, I later attributed the lower attendance to Nevada, although highly ranked, was not being recognized by many as a big-time program making a visit to Akron. Wisconsin at the Q would be an interesting. It will remind me of our game against highly-ranked Pitt in 1987 at the Coliseum, which drew a "decent" crowd. How would a Wisconsin game draw in comparison? If it does happen a couple of years for now, it would be a good barometer of where we might be in terms of fan support.
  23. Note to Can't State Fan: If our new stadium is not gaining incredible interest, then why is Can't State basically giving away tickets to their first game? The facts don't lie, my friend.
  24. We should win the East. Anything less than an East championship is a huge disappointment. Buffalo lost their top QB and RB. OU is terrible, and we beat them in Akron with great regularity, K.e.n.t. is horrible, there's a reason BG has a new coach/staff, and we have Temple @ home. The teams we are competing for a championship against are the dregs of Division 1 football. We should sweep the MAC East. Not according to a Can't State linebacker's comments in the Beacon yesterday.
  25. Some of the usual rhetoric. If anyone wanted some real entertainment today, they should have looked at the story in the Beacon, and the predictions of the Can't State linebacker. I pretty much right in my office.
