  1. Defending his players but not reporting what happened as told to by the FBI. Those are his actions. Then falling on the sword for the higher ups that did nothing about it. He didn't fall on his sword, he got fired for being a liar. See, this is the thought process people have when they listen to the media and believe everything said. You just keep on listening to the media. At least I can think for myself.
  2. I drove by this stadium yesterday. It is absolutely beautiful in person.

  4. Becoming "above average" isn't something I would whole-heartedly agree with. Count me in as part of the 5%. In fact, I almost vomited when I read it....I wonder what percent of Zips fans had to hold back vomit while reading? Further, I wonder how many Zips fans were rolling their eyes so much they couldn't finish the letter? NE Ohio sports fans are so desperate, they will make fools of themselves in order to feel as if there is any possibility of hope. They love the "savior". Many see Tressel as that savior of Akron football. He could do well, but so could a lot of other coaches....In an either/or world, nobody is allowed to say that though.
  5. You and U of A need to get out of the 80's with your marketing. Plenty of firms can create a great campaign for minimal cost. And we'll get what we pay for. I'll match what I know about sales and marketing against anyone on this board. Toledo packs in their stadium with winning. OU is packing in their stadium with winning. We pack our stadium with free tickets...and you know who I'm talking about. The Athletic Department needs to get people to pay to watch the team play, not contrived buzz backed up with free tickets.
  6. With all that has happened to Tressel in the last year, I have a lot of trouble with the number of times the word "sir" was used in this letter.
  7. Let me help. What Paul know is in the mac and D2, it doesn't take 60 great players to win. It doesn't even take 22 great players to win. It takes about 10 good players in the total starting line-up to win in the mac (see the success OU is having). The rest can be average, but they can't be bad. A good coach maximizes the talents of the 10 good ones with some creativity/good playc alling, and his team wins. It's easy to win in the mac if a coach doesn't over-think it. Paul comes from a background of simplicity and good coaching...that's what we need.
  8. Like Faust? He won seven games his first year. And then......I'd love to see a JZ84 graph on that record. Nobody is going to be perfect, but Paul is as perfect as it gets. The move to Paul would be perfect for marketing. There is real buzz and there is contrived buzz. Winning is real buzz and Paul will bring real buzz to the program. The contrived buzz is that of a football program that sounds like a Japanese Zero crashing into the Pacific during WWII. Akron isn't going to draw fans until it starts to win regardless of how many bus-backs they put Paul's face.
  9. WSU Roster I agree with ITZ. The roster shows they have MAC size. I don't know if that size translates into performance as I have never seen them play, but they at least have the size. I haven't said it in a while, so I'll say it again as a reminder for older posters and a lessen for newer posters......Regardless of what our wives and girlfriends tell us, size matters.
  10. First four years, he is under the average three of the four...one year right at average. Second four years, he is over the average three of the four years...one year right at average. Trend is all that matters. Paul has taken a pile of crap and made it a winner.
  11. The next coach should have guys on his staff that are experienced in coaching the style of football he wants to play. Assistants are a dime a dozen in the MAC. As long as they can teach a player how to play and get them motivated to play, I don't care who they are.
  12. Can't really judge D3. Even comparing FBS to D2 is a stretch, but D3 isn't even scholarship based. Mike Sherman anyone? Texas A&M and Green Bay Packers, give him the "tressel money" If the 'tressel money" is taking him to lunch at the Martin Center, I'm all for it.
  13. Link One of our fellow posters posted this link. The mac is much better this year in terms of watchability and quality. Many of the football games I have watched, with the exception of our beloved Zips, have been entertaining and a good football has been played. The basketball seems to be good as well. When we bash the mac for being as bad as it has been in recent years, we should take our hats off when it is better. This might be a good discussion topic.
  14. GP1 cannot wait for this hire. I almost missed it. Thanks for teeing it up. I think Frye could coach the Zips to solid second and third place finishes in the MAC East. After four years, we would have 19 D-1A wins and never win a big MAC game or BCS game. The Marketing Department could spend all of their time marketing him and not the program. It would be a better state than what we are in now, but not at a Getsy coached level.
  15. Uh no. +1,000,000 The guy is as dumb as a dried-up bag of leaves.
  16. Better than Mike Johnson? Played pro QB for several seasons. UA alum. NFL coach for many years. Kids want to hear that they can get to the pros. Even if they have no chance of doing so. Mike's NFL connections could be HUGE in getting a higher-caliber athlete to the UA campus. I'm going with Winters over Johnson. I'm also guessing this is one of those times when you post something you don't really believe to get some discussion. We need substance, not flash with this choice. I want a kid who wants to win at Akron and isn't worried about the NFL. Spread offenses aren't what the NFL is looking for anyhow (save it Tebow fans). Paul understands the MAC and he has turned a horrible loser into a winner. It's been a long time since Mike had to live the life of a MAC....anything. The new coach needs to COMPLETELY understand what he is getting into with Akron. While they both probably have understanding, Paul has been living it for a long time now. Paul is the choice.
  17. I regret the day I started this thread.
  18. They did a great job for the game Sunday as well. Students had a lot of fun and they did a good job selecting a place to have the pre-game party. Some grads came from as far away as Greenville, SC so I was happy with that. Good job UofA!!!!
  19. He could be better. Lots of guys could win at Akron.
  20. Was the bus trip fun and why? How was the Italian joint?
  21. Me neither. This is as soon as they could have it given the holiday and all. Remember guys, there isn't a single respected (ABJ, PD, Dispatch, etc.) media outlet in the state reporting Tressel is even interested in coaching Akron. The reports I believe are about him assisting in the search.
  22. All good points. The law suit stuff doesn't bother me. It's not like he is his own lawyer or something and spends hours putting together his own cases. Bigger schools have to worry about the potential hit from ESPN if they hire him (ESPN will run negative stories about him), but Akron doesn't because nobody is paying attention.
  23. Media and fan pressure were not killing Meyer.... He was killiing himself with the pressure he put on himself. It will be interesting to see if he puts the same pressure on himself at OSU and if he doesn't, will it impact success. Even worse, if he does, does he kill himself?
  24. If this is the logic the Athletic Department is using, which I doubt, they should all turn their keys in today and I will be glad to accept their resignations effective immediately.
  25. You said you wanted a place to take it easy and still make an impact on kids lives. Akron is that kind of place. You want to make good on your name and legacy and you are about teaching football. Well Akron desperately needs to be taught how to play football. I'm not interested in a guy looking to take it easy. His easy job was OSU. It's hard as Hell to win at Akron and we don't need a guy to take it easy. We want a guy who will work his butt off to get the easy job at a school like OSU. When I say take it "easy" I don't mean sleep walk through the job. Boy way to jump on context. Tell me, is OSU an easier job than Akron? You will say recruiting, but he had to recruit against the top 10 teams in the nation. You say winning but he had to play against the top 10 50% of the time, at Akron you are lucky to see 1 top 10 team a season. When I say "take it easy" I meant, not constantly scrutinized by national media. Akron is an easier job from a pressure stand point and you damn well know it. I don't thin guys like Tressel and other big time coaches give a hoot what the national media says about them. It's easier to get kids to go to OSU than Akron. Tressel didn't play Top 10 teams very often with a MAC schedule and Big Ten schedule.
