Unfortunately, the Browns won't be able to get any talent around him until the next draft.
Want to immediately help him? Don't count on the draft. Two words Browns fans, Randy Moss. A great deep threat opens up the whole field. Moss has 2-3 good years left in him.
The draft is how you get depth. It's hard to turn a team around quickly with the draft.

suspend head-hunting harrison.
the NFL's mandatory removal of the game of Cribbs and Massaquoi rewards helmet to helmet headhunting and it's really stupid.
I understand the safety issues with concussions, but we already have pink-skirt rules in the NFL anyway. Harrisson should have been flagged on the first shot on cribbs, and ejected for the second shot. Two players removed from the game because of that crap.

dear Steelers fans
get rid of rothlisberger he is a rapist
Noooooo he isn't. He's an a-hole, but not a rapist.
-
He's another example of a kid who might not physically look like an NFL QB, but he appears like he has the ability to get the job done!
He has all of the physical ability he needs. Browns fans need to keep in mind that McCoy won a lot of games at UT. Winners are hard to come by. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if McCoy doesn't go down with an injury in the BCS Championship Game last January, they beat Alabama.
-
I'm not one to give the Browns advice as I am a Steelers fan. I guess it isn't as much advice to the Browns as much as it is advice to Browns fans. Here it goes.
Try to control your stupidity and don't run McCoy out of Cleveland. Get the guy some help in the form of a better #1 receiver and a better RB than Touchdown Tommy Hillis...or whatever his name is. McCoy handled himself well yesterday against a great defense on the road and for his first game ever.
If the Browns do the right things around this guy, they can be a playoff team in the future. In 2-3 years, McCoy may be one of the one half of all starting NFL QBs who doesn't have his head up his butt. Time will tell, but even the Great GP1 and many in the crowd of Steelers fans at Dixies Tavern in Charlotte were impressed by McCoy. The guy can play, now get him some help.

"ho cares if they stink? It's not and never will change, BCS football is not designed for programs like Akron and the MAC."
Tell that to TCU, Boise, BYU, Utah...
I'd like to see where these four teams finish if they were in BCS conferences week in and week out. BYU is already a bad team.
You'll get part of your wish next year when Utah joins the PAC-10.
We'll learn a lot. I think I know a lot of the answers to the test right now.

My God, the ABJ allows this to be posted on their web page. The more things change there, the more they stay the same at the ABJ.
Rasor asks if long term a Zips fan would change places with a Can't, OU, Temple or NIU fan. The answer to that in at least two out of four, I would. Temple can be good for a loing time. NIU has been good for a long time. The only team I would say Hell No to is Can't. NIU is a proven winner (wins a lot of games). If we have good facilities, so does Temple...an NFL stadium comes to mind. OU can continue to be good for at least five more years.
Secondly, our commitment to iCoach should be five years? This has to be a joke. If we go 0-12, the commitment to iCoach should not be five minutes. Not to win a game in the worst conference in the country after at least winning 3 last year with 17 returning starters, IMNHO, is cause for immediate termination.
Is Rasor really what law school and a career in an intellectually bankrupt Republican Party creates? I guess so. There are people who actually voted for this guy to serve on the board of a relatively large Ohio town. I'm simply amazed by it. He was a lot smarter before law school and a career in politics. Try harder Rasor.

Update-
SOS 117 out of 120 D1 programs...
15 Ohio State A = 85.08 6 0 63.45( 117)
It's hard to believe a team that doesn't play anyone for six games loses to an average team.
watching them play today made my day

In all seriousness, it is the reason why the computer rankings are more important than the human rankings. Most humans don't get to watch every team play or the people voting can't tell the difference between good teams and players. tOSU was never the #1 team because they simply don't have the physical ability. They got physically smashed last night. Nobody notices that when they are playing MAC schools, but it comes out when they play a decent team. They probably aren't a Top 15 team (closer to between 15 and 25) and will lose at least one more thins regular season. They are still in first place in the MAC though.

1st 4 OU Possessions:
1 - TD
2 - TD
3 - FG
4 - TD
Can anyone begin to fathom the travesty that we have to play The University of Columbus next year?! O, the humiliation.
The only way it could get worse is if in the third possession they score a TD in lieu of a FG. It's only a four point swing going from 24 to 28 points.

I like how he noted that "Coaches often fall in love with potential as opposed to production." I had never heard that before, but it makes a lot of sense.
They are the words of a guy who played in the NFL. It is they type of brutal honesty he had to hear each day during his career.

This is embarrassing. I can't wait to read the Captain's review.
My review consists of 0 words:

Like the old saying goes, "An emoticon is worth a thousand words."

Why is it that every time I come on the Zn.o, I am directed to log in before posting to any thread, and no matter how many times I post on the same visit, I have to log in before each new post? This has just started happening this week -- where I am redirected for every post. I'm not concerned about logging-in when I come on the board, but for Pete's sake, every post?
Z.I.P., I'm here to help by giving you every bit of computer knowledge I have....Try turning your computer off and then turning it back on.

The longer we have to wait, the more unlikely it will seem to us that a turn-around ochestrated by him will ever occur.
Exactly!
I don't think everyone understands what a catastrophe 0-12 would be for the program the first year of a new coach, or any year for that matter. When you hire a new coach, right or wrong, you expect better than what you had before. If it doesn't happen, then what? What kind of player can you recruit when the team goes 0-12? I'm not going to include all of the questions because STZ outlined them a couple of weeks ago, but the questions outline what a deep hole 0-12 creates. What kind of coach would want to come to an 0-12 team?
The Zips badly need to win some games this season. To finish with zero wins would take years to recover from. Keep in mind that some teams have not won games for a couple of years straight. It can happen and we can't let it happen to us. 0-12 makes a program a laughing stock. People forget 3-9, they never forget 0-12.
I'm pulling for the Zips to win the remainder of their games. If that means iCoach stays longer, then so be it. Maybe he will prove me wrong about the pro style offense. If he goes 0-12, his reputation will be so damaged he will never recover and like JZ84 said, he will never be able to turn things around.

There has been a substantial push to break that culture over the past few years and here we sit at the bottom.
I respectfully disagree.
Our efforts have been in building facilities assuming they would lead to winning. Nobody ever said, "How fast will this new stadium run the 40 yard dash?" or "Can the field actually catch a ball?" What we haven't invested in is the support staff to recruit and retain at risk kids who are extremely talented. There has been some increase, but not enough. When JD got bit by issues such as this, he retreated to what Faust did and brought in less talented players.
-
Can we give a shout out to the OU band? Goooo Bong Cats!

Anyone who sits through four quarters of this Zips team and OU would need that bong as a much needed retreat after the game.
-
Honestly, I think I would like to see us win and start to play well. That's just me though. If your sole purpose to Akron football is to wait for a coach to be fired that we just hired, stop back in three years. There's honestly no point in winning. The more we lose, the faster RI's seat heats up.
+1
Losing is a cancer. The more you lose, the more you are going to lose. The more you win, the more you win. Bill Cowher always says that a team is most dangerous when they have confidence and momentum. We don't have either.
You can change coaches every year forever. Unless the culture of losing changes, nothing is going to change. Everyone in NE Ohio waits for a savior to come along and save everything. There are 85 saviors on that team with the ability to change the direction of the program. They ALL need to start to play better and win some games.
With that said, we still need a change in coaching. My problems with iCoach are philosophical. I don't think we can win with a pro style offense and I've outlined the reasons many times on this board. I don't think he is a bad coach or a jerk or a bad person or a stupid guy either. He's probably a good guy who knows a lot about pro style offenses and under the right conditions, his philosophy would probably work. It isn't going to work here though.

As a wise old man once told me -- You don't make money off people who don't enter your store.
If you are losing money either way, it doesn't matter.
At this point, they discount the tickets to $5 and they are no better than they were 20 years ago.
Everything has a value. I wouldn't say I wouldn't go if they paid me, because I would. Below is what it would cost to get me to go to a game when I am 20 miles from the stadium the day after Thanksgiving this year.
1. Gas from N. Canton to Infocision $5.00
2. Sitting in the cold and rain for four hours...$100/hour = $400
3. Missing time with the family because nobody in their right mind would go with me...including my wife, Mrs. GP1, the luckiest woman in the world. $1,000
4. Missing the Pens game $400
5. Irritation $50
If UofA will pay me $1,855, I would be more than happy to attend the final game of the season. Other than that, there is no way I pay a penny to go watch them play.

Rumor has it, they are going to try to squeeze a game in Weds against Urbana to reach what they would consider perfection....120 out of 120.

We NEED good basketball!
We really do. When the football team is terrible, it takes the energy out of the rest of the Athletic Department. Meaning, the public has trouble getting jumpstarted after a bad football season. The BB team will have to impress early on and get the energy back up to where it needs to be.
-
Wonder what it is that instigated this. "A violation of team rules" could mean just about anything.
It could. Athletic departments hand down so many rules to players, they all should have their own law student assigned to them to keep them from breaking them. For all we know, he overslept and missed an 8 AM class.
-
Oh if losing only meant we only got a high draft pick!
Then we could change our name to The University of Akron Browns.

-
K.e.n.t State -- bad stadium
Akron -- even worse team
...Call it a draw, at least we can fill our "sh*thole" stadium
Just build a new stadium and you will be good.....It worked for us.......

Harrison hasn't done anything wrong. I'm not sure what the referece to his mother has to do with anything.
I saw Harrison at a hockey game once. Between periods, he said hello to and took photos with anybody who asked. He isn't a bad guy, just a hardass....the kind of hardass any Browns fan would love to have on their team.
