  1. So, it looks like they will do more drug testing, but the penalties are still TBD by the coaching staff. Does OSU have to make the results of those drug tests public? If not, this is just a waste of money.

Notice how the Stinkin' Urinal makes JT look so steadfast:

"But Tressel will not succumb to the public's suggestion of a one-and-done policy and increase his penalties for off-the-field infractions. That usually means first-time offenders enter the in-house program, second-timers receive two-week sanctions and third-time offenders are suspended for one year. Tressel said coaches have the freedom to do whatever they think the situation calls for beyond that."

He won't succumb huh. Well, is that a good thing? Apparently he stands for what's right, according to the ABJ. How often do they do drug testing? If it's twice a year, and you need to be busted 3 times for a one year suspension, then it'll take you two years to get a suspension. I don't know the details, but before I go and applaud OSU for their more strict policies, I need to be assured they aren't just blowing smoke. Still seems to me that there are pleanty of ways around this.

I agree with everything you wrote Zipsrifle. I would just like to add to it.

When JT says that the easy thing to do is kick a kid off of the team as he has in the past, he is completely being dishonest. The hard thing to do is to kick a kid off of the team and try to win without him.

I think the truth of the matter is that OSU fans really don't care what the kids do off of the field as long as they are winning. I am also torn by this thought. My personal opinion is that I could care less what happens to Akron football players off of the field as long as they win. The winning would make the bull $#!+ much more easy to swallow. Would the ABJ be so forgiving if it was Akron players and they were winning MAC Championships one after another? I think they would be more than willing to bury the program. Especially that little prick Pluto. You all know I think Pluto's nice guy act is a bunch of BS.

I'm going golfing Friday so I will not be in the Nation. Have a nice Memorial Day everyone. When you have the day off Monday, try to remember why.

  2. http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/spor...es/11741913.htm

There is a great case study in supply and demand waiting to happen in the Columbus drug dealing market.

Now that OSU will have a tougher drug policy, we can make a couple of assumptions (which are debatable). First, OSU football players will have to go on their last binge of smoking pot. Secondly, the day the drug policy starts, the players will have to reduce their drug usage (maybe, again debatable).

What does this have to do with supply and demand? Easy. The increased use of pot will drive up the cost of pot in the Columbus market. With the behavior of the Buckeye football team since Sweater Vest Jim took over, we all know a spike in their behavior can impact the entire market. The spike in their behavior will drive up the cost of pot as inventories are depleted. Following the spike in price, there will be an certain reduction in price after the drug policy takes over when inventories are replaced.

My advice, buy stock now in Columbus drug dealers (CDD) until the day the drug policy is active and then ring the register. :thumb:

Take if for what it's worth. I just wanted to inject some economics into the board.

Have a nice day everyone.

  3. Great question zipsfaninca.......and a very tough question.....

Not sure where zips37 was during the Huggins era, but here we go.

I became a Zip in the fall of '84, so while J. Jakubick may be the schools'

greatest player, he simply doesn't qualify for my list.

Picking 10 is difficult.....my list actually consists of a top one and nine others.

The single greatest player since Joe J. is none other than #21 out of Lynchburg, Virginia-

    Maaaaaarrrrrrrccccccccceeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll Boyce.

How zips37overlooked this guy is unbelievable! While he only played 2 years, there may never have been two greater years. Led the team in scoring and rebounding both years and ended #6 on the career blocked shots list. Never had a bad game--some were just better than others. BTW-favorite Zip of all-time.

    2. Eric McLaughlin

    3. Shawn Roberts

    4.Jimmal Ball

    5.Ryan Andrick

    6. Darryl Peterson

    7. Roshon Brown

    8. Jami Bosley

    9. George Phillips

    10. Bryan Roth

Again, very difficult to do and my last 8 are interchangeable. While Boyce was out of this world for 2 years...Ball and Phillips playing four years carried a lot of weight. Roshon Brown's two years may have been better than any two of Jimmal's, but that is up for debate. Darryl Peterson's first two years were as good as any pure frosh and soph's.....junior year was somewhat dissapointing..looking forward to player of the year type play this year.

The disappointing ends' to the seasons under Bosley and Phillips clearly impact them at the bottom of the list.... The play of Bryan Roth was so long ago my memory has faded, but he still makes the list .........Talent wise, Anthony Buford is a top three, but he left after his junior year so screw him....he is out. The players under Coleman Crawford--Freeman and Coleman simply do not make the list. Finally, Travis and Wood may join the list, just not at this time.

    Go Zips!

I'm 99% sure I know who Zips Win! is. If he is who I think he is, his list should become the "Official Top Ten Zips Basketball Players" list. He never misses a game and knows Zips basketball like the back of his hand. Good work Zips Win!

  4. at Purdue, L 14-31

at Middle Tennessee State, W 28-20

    Northern Illinois, L 17-31

    Central Michigan, W 28-10

    at Buffalo, W 31-13

    at Miami, W 21-20

    Army, W 30-13

    at Bowling Green, L 20-34

    at Ball State, W 21-10

    Ohio, W 24-20

    Can't State, W 51-0

    :screwks:

8-3 season if we come to play every week. We're going to need our defense to consistantly hold opponents under four touchdowns to win games this season, and I think they're finally up to the challenge. Looking at all the schedules, I'm seeing a possible three way tie at the top of the East come the end of November with the Zips, Miami, and Bowling Green all at 6-2.

Scores in addition to wins.....nice work ITZ. I like your optimism. :thumb: I think that win at Miami is realistic (mabye) and if it isn't, they are still looking at 7-4. There is also no reason to believe the MTSU will not be a win. If Ringer doesn't fumble the game away last year, we beat them. Beating NIU is also a possibility. NIU has a way of losing road MAC games on a regular basis.

My biggest disagreement would be the 51-0 Can't score. I look for Akron to score a late touchdown and score a two point play with no time on the clock for a 53-0 win. No field goals in this game. :screwks:

Keep believing bro, you and I seem to be the only two on this board with any faith.

  5. That's the style ITZ. If I've said it once, I'll say it a thousand times on this board. There is no reason to believe the Zips will not be as competitive as they were last year if not better. I have every faith in JD to prepare a team and get the best out of the team. While I was glad to see LO go, his players did play hard with the talent they had. Good coaching and hard play will be a theme revisited several times on this board next year. I have a sneaky feeling the Zips are going to play real good next year.

  6. Wouldn't it be funny if Jim T. said:

"We should feel sorry for guys like Erik Haw. With the arrest of Jonathan Skeete, we have been dealt a serious blow to our football program. After all, where are the guys going to go to buy good dope. That shit Jonathan was selling really kicks ass. We recommended Jonathan to all of our players because his dope gives a great buzz without all of the desire for a gyro or a trip to Hamburger Station so our players are able to keep their weight down. This is a sad day for Ohio State fans, alumni, faculty and staff. If you could all excuse me now, I have a new sweater vest to buy."

  7. Bringing Temple into the league makes no sense for either Temple or the MAC. Temple would be an eastern school playing in a mid west conference. It didn't work for Penn State and it certaily will not work for Temple.

I also can not think of a single benefit for the league by bringing in Temple. Navy would be a different story. Typically, the military schools draw nice crowds to games. It could work out well for the MAC and Navy. Navy recruits nationally, so playing in a mid west conference will not negatively impact their recruiting.

But then again, I like our chances in the MAC East with Navy and Temple. Think about it: Akron, Temple, Navy, Buffalo, Can't State, Ohio and throw in either Miami or BG and our chances look good.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

  8. What's there to do in West Lafayette? Is Purdue a good school to hit the evening before a game? Any insider tips on where to go (good campus bars, etc.) and what to do are appreciated.

    :screwks:

There is a town area (it's actually more of a road) in WL that has several bars near campus. You should not have any problem finding a place to have some fun.

Just a warning though, you have to be smart to go to Purdue so the eye candy is not that great.

As far as places to eat, there is a small diner called the Triple X that is famous. I wouldn't eat dinner there, but it is a neat thing to do for lunch. Frequently ABC will send a crew down to show it during a game. The place has a continuous counter that goes around the little diner and the little burgers they serve are great. You can get a burger, fries and a drink for something like $4.50. It may not look good on the outside, but the food is good.

A agree that getting there is a pain. I would recommend the northern way taking you toward Chicago. Route 30 is suicide and Indianapolis is too far south. Once you get to South Bend, start looking for ways to get there at that point using back roads.

  9. If he can hand the ball off to Biggs...toss 8 yarders to Kasparek...and hit the occasional slant to Jabari or Hixson, he's 85% of the way there. I have to believe the 2005 game plan will be dramatically different than 2004's. Much less dependent upon the QB to make plays.

The OL is obviously the biggest unknown. Probably 3 of the incoming Fr.'s will be relied upon to play serious game minutes. History bears-out that a bunch of Fr.s on the OL is a recipe for disaster. However, the incoming guys have some great HS accolades. Maybe they can gel as the season progresses?

    Nice work Capt.

After the spring game, I was much less worried about the OL than before the game. While they were not what we would want, they did look better than expected. When they did run, they moved the ball well. They seemed to spend a lot of time in the spring game passing.

I expect the same out of the QB position next year as I don't think 2,600 yards is too much to ask out of a D-I QB. Throwing slants and to the TE makes it easy to reach that yardage amount. The real test is going to be the ability of the team to get first downs and control field positon. If they can do that, it puts our defense in a much better position to make a difference. I do think the defense will be better next year and if it is, the offense will have more chances to score and also have less yardage to gain prior to scoring.

I still think we might see some really good things from this team next year.

  10. Hey ZR.............

Where did that pic come from? That was from 03 because I see Jud Cummins in the shot, correct?

BTW this is Z-P OTR (as ususal)

They played at Miami in 03. It has to be 04 because the uniform change was made in 03 and they are at the Rubber Bowl.

  11. Four year contract starting at $600,000 and graduating up to $800,000. If he starts, he could make up to $1.2 mil in incentives (similar to Roethlisberger).

Signing bonus of $500,000 spread out over the course of the contract.

The only guarantee in the NFL is the signing bonus so if he is cut or traded, it will be the only money he makes. If this does happen, it will not happen for three years at the earliest.

I wonder if he is working on his own brand of bad BBQ sauce similar to Kelly H.

  12. I've mentioned this on the board before, and I'll mention it again. Chase stands a good chance, if he gets on with the right team, to have a long career as a long snapper. He's good at it, he's fast and he takes up a lot of space in the middle. Long snappers play sometimes for 15-17 years if they are good. He could have the longest NFL career of any Zip ever.

  13. If the bricks cost $20, then we only need to sell 750,000 bricks to pay for the stadium! What do these kind of bricks typically go for? I really have no idea but I would guess a LOT more than $20.

When the Pirates built PNC park, I bought my parents a brick (8" x 8") with their name on it for $65. It is behind the home plate gate.

My wife bought a normal house type brick for me for $50. To this day, I still have no idea where it is and rocket scientists working for the Pirates know where it is but they always forget to send out the map to me each time I ask.

  14. I have mixed feelings about the pick.

As a Zips fan, I'm happy to see one of our own do really well and make a lot of money. In the end, it is just a really easy and high paying job. Charlie cashing in is a good thing for him and the University. I've said a lot of negative things about Charlie on this page, but always in reference to his football performance (lack of winning) and not his person. He is a good person (which we are all supposed to be) and he has earned this money and I will still never say anything bad about his person. Being a Steelers fan though, it is open season on him from my stand point. :gun: I have never been as happy with a Browns draft pick as I was last night.

Secondly, I'm happy because I bet a Marshall fan $50 that Frye would get drafted in the first three rounds and he did. I will donate the money and a matching gift from my company totaling $100 to the University of Akron Foundation.

Thirdly, as a human being and a Steelers fan I feel bad for Charlie because he has to play in front of the "Dumbest Fans In The World" for the start of his career. They will run him out of Cleveland faster than 19. It will be brutal to watch. I will pray for the day when he is run out of town and gets a second chance with fans who aren't so bitter they do nothing at games except make @$$e$ out of themselves and their community. Bitter and dumb is a terrible combination. :wall:

Lastly, as a Steelers fan, I'm happy that Charlie will one day be starting against the Steelers. :) He has never beat Big Ben and he never will. With Charlie starting and his record of winnig, it will guarantee the Browns 6-7 wins a year and the Steelers will be guaranteed playoff spots year in and year out. What Bill Schottencowher does with those playoff spots will be another issue.

Anyhow, good job Charlie! :thumb: I look forward to seeing you against the Steelers. Joey Porter wants to say hello. :D

  15. Oh, and by the way Puck Fittsburgh! Their dominance over the Browns is another thing that is going to end. Nothing lasts forever. In the 50's and 60's they were were the Browns bitches. Things always come full circle eventually. Rothlisberger is going to feel some pain!

Maybe some day, but not any time soon. Certainly not as long as Ben is with the Steelers.

  16. Perhapsthe Browns are now goring to live up to their namesake Paul, not Mike.

If Dilfer stays healthy read uninjured, he can teach #5 how to win, becaause Dilfer is a WINNER, loads of good wishes, Charlie!!!!!!!!!!! :D

With ball ammunition lock and load.

There are no classes on winning. Either you can or you can't.

  17. Their team was crap and he lead them to a BCS Game.

The BCS "led" Pitt to a BCS game. not Tyler Palko.

If you think Pitt would have received anything but an invite to the Motor City Bowl had they not received the sorry-ass Big LEast automatic BCS bid, you have at least one thing in common with Josh Cribbs (puff, puff, puff)

Great win vs. Notre Dame? Wow...ND was a juggernaut last year.

How 'bout Palko's riveting performance vs. Furman? UConn? Were any of his "wins" vs Rutgers or Temple? Yes, two. They also nailed mighty South Florida. That home loss to doormat Nebraska was impressive too, as was the 35-7 Fiesta Bowl beating to non-BCS Utah (quick, name another player on Utah's roster besides Alex Smith...I THOUGHT so!) Man, the Dude is a "winner."

Palko couldn't hold Frye's jock strap.

WOW CK, you and Zips Win are making my points for me today. The evidence you use points to the fact that Pitt did suck, which they did. If you read my post again, I never say that Palko is a great QB. All I said was that he is a winner, and the record proves so. I'll take a winner any day over a sub 50% player.

  18. Again, he may be average, but to say that after the OU game is ridiculous.

He was running for his life the whole game and with the game on the line and the Zips holding a small lead, Frye led the offense on one of the best drives of his career.

Under unbelievable duress, he completed 3 third and long situations, capping it off with an unbelievable pass and catch in the endzone.

Somehow, this will be belittled, too.

I think you just belittled him for me. Using one drive in an otherwise unremarkable OU game says a lot about what we saw the past four years. Bubbles of greatness in a sea of average play. OU absolutely stunk and a MAC QB like Limpwich would have dismantled that team with nine guys.

I'm not sure if everyone gets it yet. If he was that good, he SHOULD make plays like that against OU at a minumum.

  19. A phrase I heard that rang true is: "Keep in mind, Palko couldn't hold Frye's jock strap."

The biggest difference between Palko and "Superman" is that Palko is a winner and "Superman" is not. Palko lead Pitt, after starting the season 2-2, to a huge win against Notre Dame and a BCS Bowl Game. Where did "Superman" lead us? Quick, name another starter for Pitt last season.....................too late, you coudn't do it fast enough. Their team was crap and he lead them to a BCS Game.

If you folks think I am harsh, just wait until 5 loses in the NFL. NFL fans will tear him to shreads like he has never experienced before. It will make my posts look like kids play.

That's OK though, just keep the 5 excuse train running. It gives me material for my soon to be post titled "The 101 Piss Poor Excuses for 5 Not Winning". Who should be the jock holder again?
