This is great news! One question, though: what's up with all the RBs? I know that both Andrew Johnson and Dennis Kennedy are graduating after this year, but we have Alex Allen and Devoe Torrence (if he doesn't play LB), not to mention Gary Pride. You can never have too many running backs, they say. But couldn't this cause someone to transfer out, or switch positions?Maybe JD should think about switching to a flexbone-style offense - a wishbone/spread hybrid - to take advantage of all the talent.

The list of schools that offered him is very impressive. I wonder how he's ended up with us? Seems like we have the same log jam that UL does at RB. It just figures that's his position though. Why don't we ever seem to get transfers or new talent where there are big holes (i.e. QB and DB)? With a stud QB, this team could go from being average/below-average to top of the MAC.

If you look around a bit on the UL boards, Martin was injured last season and wound up 3rd on the depth chart after spring ball. He's coming to UA and using his transfer year to "get healthy." He'll have two years of eligibility remaining starting in '09. If he gets healthy, he'll likely have a shot at getting a chunk of carries for the Zips in 2010-2011.

GoZips.com says he has three years of eligibility starting in 2009.
Was just on my way back to edit my post. I thought I read somewhere that he redshirted prior to having an injury filled sophomore year. I'm wrong. :( Three years is great...hopefully the kid lives up to his recruiting expectations.

I agree. I'm quite unqualified to make talent evaluations, but DT didn't blow me away when I saw him @ RB. IMHO I've seen quite a few more natural RB's just over the last few years from Akron-area high schools alone - Tyrell Sutton, B-Will, Beanie (goes w/out saying) Delone Carter, Morgan Williams, Jordan Mabin... and those are just off the top of my head. In fact, the young man who was supposed to succeed Gamble in Massillon but had his spot taken by DT was also a very fine RB (I hear he ended up at Walsh.) But that's beside the point. Anyway....at 6-2, 210 I say move him to LB! We don't need him @ RB.

I agree. Let's tell JD tomorrow. On second thought, you tell him. I'll have your back. :D

you're right.... it's the coaches job to make these decisionsthen again, it's fan's jobs too... except we don't paid to do it, we don't get fired from doing it, and when we do (often) do it, it very rarely ever seems to matter.haha...Anyway, maybe if he goes DB, they can make him a deal to throw him a bone on some situational running?
