Captain Kangaroo
The ABJ wants them, and I know that we all have plenty of them.F the Beacon in the skull. The reason they want the stories is because they haven't covered the Zips for a decade!! They have no Rubber Bowl history in their files!. Maybe they should reference their AP wire stories? I'm not doing the Beacon's work for them. I've done it for a decade. That's enough.

Captain Kangaroo
The Beacon said "Screw the Zips" several years ago. In just about those same words. I wish I still had Larry Pantages original email. Class 1, Grade A jerkwad. 10 years of ignoring the hometown Zips. Now they're "back," and writing Zips stories. Forgive me if I don't re-subscribe. bigham78
I wish I still had Larry Pantages original email.Through the magic of the Internets .. here you go.You just brought back some memories from my ongoing battles with the ABJ.David Lee Morgan what a waste of space. Not does he suck with his so called coverage of UofA He and I went at it via emails over the ABJ HS coverage. I had to remind him Garfield was not the only HS in Akron. Pretty sad he keep being up his human interest stories he had done and had no excuse for why Garfield that year as 5-5 team rated more weekly coverage and write-ups then 9-1 headed to the State Playoffs Buchtel. I've stayed on the ABJ about their pathetic local sports coverage and I agree. They treat UofA like the unwanted step child. They don't want to hear my memories of the Rubber Bowl. I'm sure they'd the print the one about being in the HS playoffs during one of NE Ohio many cold outbreaks we use to see in November on a regular basis. I love how we went into the locker room at halftime and it's about as cold in there as out on the field. Didn't help seeing ice was forming in the sinks and urinals due to the heaters being out.

zipseuph
ok this is something that just ticks me off. everyone here always complains about the ABJ's lack of coverage when it comes to the UofA now they want to do something and they are ASKING US FOR HELP!! and all you guys want to do is cry about how it used to be!? look if you don't want anything to change then just go ahead and sit at home with your thumbs up your butts and continue to wonder why they don't shower us with love. however if you want to help make a difference and want a change then go put in some ideas. tell them that this university is loved and stop all the trolls that are on there now from putting down what you and I hold dear. Big Zip
I've got a novel idea how about instead of asking me for my story -- the ABJ can get off their ass and write a story. Here I'll give them an idea -- look at some of the significant happenings at the Rubber Bowl over the years and interviewing someone who played an important role. How about an interview with Jason Taylor, Charlie Frye or even Domenik Hixon. Interview Faust or Dennison or go back further. Talk to someone from the Walenda family when they did the sky walking exhibition. There are plenty of stories. Heck ask Lee Owens about his favorite Zips moment at the RB or Dwight Smith. Talk to Dr. Ruebel what he remembers most. There are plenty of angels that actually require work.

Asking was just a formality.Big Zip, you hit the nail on the head. That would be a story worth reading.zipseuph. spend multiple years writing and pleading with the to cover your favorite local team to no avail like many on this board have done. Then come back here and tell us how "pathetic" we are.PS This is not directed toward anyone in particular, just a note for those who don't know about this tool. I know how bad the coverage is when I'm out of town and I have to go other newspapers in Ohio to get UofA write-ups and UofA site for stats. I could share the many emails I have in my collection going back and fourth complaining. I have current dialogue going with Carol Biliczky who agrees with me that the sports coverage of UofA is sorely lacking for UofA being a hometown team. She does a good job covering UofA from human interests and current events. But, the sports department sucks in their coverage.I'm also very insulted anyone would post here about how we're pathetic for trashing the ABJ who hasn't been listening to us for years about our complaints about their sorry coverage of UofA.If, not for Rasor right now. You have no coverage of the Summer camp going on in the shadow of the ABJ building. That's a sad indictment of the ABJ right there.
zipseuph
so if everyone is done with them then why is everyone still complaining. I look at it like this you can complain as long as you are trying to do something but the moment you stop trying then you also need to stop complaining because you aren't going to do anyone any good. further more this complaining is only going to give the ABJ ammunition to fire at us with. But, kissing the ABJ butt is not going to improve their current sorry coverage. I've had to complain and complain loudly to get the HS football coverage improved over the years. I'm still not done complaining on that front and won't stop complaining about the poor UofA coverage. It's crying shame the AJC does a farbetter job covering small colleges here in Georgia that are not in the Atlanta Metro area then the ABJ does for UofA in their own backyard. If, they have the resources to send a beat writers to Garfield-Hoban football game and print dozens of color pictures on-line. They surely have the people to do a far better job with UofA. You watch this friday on-line they'll have at least two stories and dozens of pictures from the Garfield-Hoban game. But, outside Rasor coverage what have they done for UofA Summer practice? Kissing their butt will not get them to change their ways as I know first hand what morons work at the ABJ these days. For 10 years you are beaten with regularity. Your husband won't acknowledge there is an issue. He won't attend counseling. He just beats on you for 10 consecutive years. You decide enough is enough. You terminate the relationship. Two weeks later the husband says "Honey...I've changed. Trust me. Please come back. Look at these chocolates I bought you."Sorry -- One shitty box of chocolates doesn't make up for 10 years of being a jerkwad. See ya.I'll make a deal with the ABJ -- The Zips have a game against a Big 10 opponent to open the 2008 season. BIG TIME game vs a Top 15 opponent. Direct flights into Madison can be had for less then $250 round trip. Hotels are less then $100.00. If the ABJ is serious about their coverage of Zips athletics, they'll send a writer to the game. Not rent some freelance clown...not a blogger...they'll spend the $450.00 it takes to send a reporter like Gaffney (Zips Beat Writer) to Madison to give an eyewitness report of the game. If they do that, I'll ease up, and admit things may be changing at the ABJ. If they don't send a writer to the Zips opener against a Top15 team, then they still suck. zipseuph
I'm not asking anyone to fall in love with these guys and take the chocolates. they are giving us an opportunity for a great story and I think we should take it. this probably wont translate into great all time coverage but if we have the shot for a great story that could get people interested in the university and it's new stadium shouldn't we take it? and if your still pressing for more coverage than good for you it just drives me nuts that everyone complains about the lack of coverage and now that they are giving us an opportunity to gain some coverage all you want to do is bash them. look at it as business they probably wont be into us for long so lets just go ahead and get whatever milk we can from this cow while it's interested

How much of the playbook did Wisconsin hold back against Arkon ahead of their 10/4 match-up at 8PM in Wisconsin against tOSU?2. How do you think Wisconsin matches up against tOSU?3. Do you think Wisconsin rested the first and second teams long enough ahead of their upcoming game on 10/4 in Wisconsin against tOSU?4. Were you able to definitively answer "WHY does Arkon schedule these kinds of games???"5. Did any of the Wisconsin players suffer any injury that may hamper them when they go up against tOSU on 10/4 in Wisconsin?6. Do you think playing Arkon or Youngstown State is a better tune-up for the big game 10/4 between tOSU and Wisconsin in Camp Randall Stadium at 8PM?7. What was the score of the Arkon vs. Wisconsin game? I'm assuming you'll be keeping pretty close tabs on the YSU vs tOSU and may not catch the final score of the game on the field in front of you.
