timmyboy Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 I just read that both Alex Allen and Cowles Stewart are out for the season with injuries (allen - hip fracture and cowles - knee).the short period of time that we had Allen, he was a beast and was running as hard as he ever has. and Cowles looked like he was on the verge of having a very good year. How bad does everyone think losing these 2 players hurt us? Quote
xu9697 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 I just wonder if he can get another redshirt. Not sure if many players have received 2 years of medical redshirts. See Ben Mauk of UC. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 I just wonder if he can get another redshirt. Not sure if many players have received 2 years of medical redshirts. See Ben Mauk of UC.Why would he want to do it (6 years)? I wonder if he will even want to play again and risk further injury. Two "out on a stretcher, 12 month rehab" injuries within 3 years would really make me consider finishing my degree and coaching some high school ball. The prospect of walking without a cane at 55 years old is a great incentive to say "I gave it a good run" and move on. Quote

RACER Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 we will be fine at rb.kennedy and johnson can get the job done.plus i would think we will see more of the fb now.i don't think they want to play torrence unless one of those guys go down.jd did a good job by getting johnson, and the three recievers.ja was a great reciever ,but that was all we had last year.we have alott more weapons on offense now.plus the o-line has improved on the running game.i just hope zip nation does not freak out if we lose to cinnci.cinnci will be a hard test for the zips.we cannot turn the ball over, and have stupid penalites.i want to win the game, but we have to beat Can't.Can't is a must win.cinnci is a out of conference game.a win would be great, but if we lose Can't we are in trouble.cannot be 0-2 in the mac to start mac play. The problem with Mauk's case is that his 1st injury wasn't documented or the documentation was misplaced (by Wake). I would have to think that AA's injuries would be well documented. Also I am pretty sure the NCAA cut-off in terms allowing a certain amount of PT in a red shirt season is 30% of the scheduled games (recall, Mackey was injured in the Can't game, and since this was the 4th game of a 12 game schedule it put him at 4/12 = 33%, hence OVER the NCAA cut-off). Since AA was injured in the 3rd game (3/12 = 25%) it would seem to me that he is at least ELIGIBLE to petition for this to be a red-shirt season. Assuming he can get healthy, we'd at least have him for another year, but having him for another 2 would be even better. Watching AA hit the hole like he does, it would be hard for me to believe that he wouldn't agree. Quote
brianwood@the2 Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 For what it is worth .... last week I was told that a 6th year will be pursued for AA Quote

Beanie 4 Heisman Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 Alex Allen is a great person and great player. he loves the game. If he can get another year and if the NFL isnt calling I would expect him to be back. He got out of the hospital yesterday and is recovering from surgery. If you go to the game i would expect that you will see him there. For now we can enjoy what we have and that is a backfield of Former Presidents: Andrew Johnson and Kennedy. Quote
Dr Z Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 If you go to the game i would expect that you will see him there. I saw him come out of the "tunnel" after halftime. He was on crutches and seemed in good spirits.Get well soon Alex! Quote
