RowdyZip
i am guessing they recovered an onside kick to force ot????? they really are living a charmed life Yeah, they grabbed an onside with 2:30 to go, they were still down 27-20 at the time. I sure hope this doesnt affect the team tomorrow. I'd sure like to see these fellas bowling. They deserve it.
ZippyforPresident
2 observations about tonights game:1. Brett McKnight doesn't care who he's going up against, this guy is a gamer. 23 points against a #6 ranked team? This kid is the real deal and will put it in from anywhere.2. Nik Cvetinovic: Congratulations, I think you've solidified your position as a starter on this team. This guy knows how to ball and play with some serious energy.Okay, I guess I lied about having only two observations...3. Puck Fittsburgh4. This team is going to cause some hurt in the very near future, I know we got it handed to us tonight but for pitt's sake I hope they don't end up seeing us again in the tourney... These kids are gamers with tremendous upside and with a coach like KD to learn from this experience they will be prepared for the rest of the season... 5. I feel bad for Urbana6. See you at the JAR on Tuesday for the beatdown.
FromdaBurgh
I would have to agree with ZippyforPresident's observations....I think the first half's lack of luster was due to nerves and the like...Blair is a beast and was hard to handle...but i think once they got through the half and realized that they can play with Pitt...they stepped up their game.I was glad to see B. McKnight do his thing tonight...it was sweet and I was also impressed with Humpty...and Nickola. Just give these guys a little more time to mesh and meld together and watch out..its going to be glorious. I just finished reading some comments on the Pitt blogs and even they were "generous" in their comments concerning Akron. Everyone knows that this team is young and inexperienced but just hold on....its only going to take a minute. Their confidence is getting stronger and better everyday and after this...although they lost...I believe we are going to see a more confident, mature team emerge. On a side note...It was soooo nice seeing all of the Zips fans tonight. Thanks for the hellos, hand shakes, waves and the such. Zeke was glad to see so many of you...and for those of you who we didnt get a chance to say hello too...know that we appreciate you all very much and remember...DECEMBER 13 -- the NC A&T game is Zeke's 18th Birthday...and he, my husband and Rhema will be there..unfortunately I have an engagement in Dayton that same weekend...so Zip Nation, AK Rowdies and family...show the big guy much love when he comes there. Talk with you soon.!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLLA!!!!

zipsbandman
No surprises with the outcome. We are very undersized at guard. We still lack athleticism. Pitt has the best of all worlds. We just do not have the experience this year to compete for the win against a team of Pitt's caliber. Zeke will certainly be an upgrade in both categories and will definitely help us on the boards. But remember that one of the MAC contenders this season, Miami, completely folded against this team so it seems we can be capable of putting on a respectable showing in the MAC this year. Right now, I do not see any issues with our progress thus far.
Dave in Green
I'm always interested in seeing which team does the best job of making halftime adjustments, as this is often a good sign of the quality of the coaching and the hearts of the players. For example, Miami played Pitt fairly even in their first half, but Pitt obviously made better halftime adjustments and blew out Miami in the second half.Last night, the Zips appeared to be overwhelmed by a much stronger, faster and more skilled team in the first half. But the Akron coaches seem to have made all the right adjustments at halftime, resulting in a major improvement in second half performance. In fact, I think it's fair to say that the Zips played Pitt almost even in most areas during the second half. This is really an amazing achievement considering that Pitt is an elite team with a fair chance of playing for the national championship, and we were playing on their floor.I hope our team watches tape of their first half performance to learn from all of their mistakes, and their second half performance to see what they are capable of accomplishing when they do things right. At the end of the season they may look back on this game as a key turning point in beginning to understand their full potential.
MDZip
My son goes to Pitt and we got to see the game together last night - lots of fun (except he spotted Zeke and I never did). He also saw the Miami game and it is his opinion that the Zips are far better (of course his tuition is coming due so that may also be a factor . He was very impressed with B. McKnight (so was I), and despite the fact the Arena announcer had no idea how to pronounce Cvetinovic, he was a force, especially as a freshman. Adding Zeke to this team next year could be a pretty darn good team (couldn't we get Linhart another year of eligibility, he had a very good game too), but year's team could pull off some surprises as well. Great effort, Pitt has an outstanding team., Zips didn't back down at all, just got beat by a superior team.
ZZZips
To Gamechanger54 and family......Nice to see you in the UA section at the game. Since it was a school night, work week game with bad weather I thought the Akron contingent was pretty large and Zeke just made us a little less vertically challenged. It was obvious to me that Zeke is pretty well known in the Pitssburgh area. The large number of comments I heard in the halls and main concourse as Zeke walked by was amazing. Some comments were negative jealousy because of the commitment to UA but most were just proud of their McKeesport star.I'll look for the family at the NC A&T game. Again thanks for your warm comments to the Zips fans and for sitting with your new "Akron" family.
nbs95
I was very disappointed last night after the pitt game. to the point that I almost don't want to be a fan anymore.I thought Bardo play terribly the man can get a rebound to save his live. He is never under the board like he should be.I lost a lot of respect for KD as well. And after reading the post here I can truelly saythat I am done with UA basketball. No one expected us to win against the #6 team in the nation, at their stadium, with a team full of freshmen. If you don't see the talent and potential in this group then you don't need to just give up on UA Basketball, you need to give up on sports in general. So you're saying if Swiech was in there we would have handled the #6 team inside? I see you're done with grammar too.
Zip Watcher
Steve will have his days .. lots of them. It's game #3 of about 120 in his career. No need to give up. B) B) Go Zips!

But not if the coach doesn't think he's ready.I trust a good coach to do the right things for both the team and each individual player, which includes not embarassing a player by throwing him into a situation for which he's not prepared.Any objective analysis of KD's actions and results as Zips coach leads to the conclusion that he's a good one,I'm confident that when Swiech demonstrates in practice that he's prepared to play and contribute to the team, it won't be long before we see him in a game. BirdZip
Some random thoughts:Free Throws attempted: Akron = 14, Pitt = 37 (Ouch)Akron outshot Pitt on a percentage basis for both field goals and free throws, but the lesser shots (brought about in a big way by being outrebounded 37:21) hurt. Seems like when we take shots, we have no-one under the boards.I thought they played really well after they got their jitters out. Any game until the MAC championship going to give as many jitters? Likely not, so nice to have the experience under their belts. We debuted our "I Believe That We Have Zeke" sign specifically for the Pitt fans. One nearby fan started bad-mouthing Zeke, but Zips Win! called him on it as sour grapes and I don't think we heard a word from him after that. The upper-tier "Overrated" chant was funny--except that we couldn't do it again after 3-2.Nik is solid.Humpty makes lazy passes--that can be corrected. We believe we have fast guards, and I agree, but they looked kind of slow against Pitt. These guys were an excellent team and Akron played with them after the slow start.nbs95 you're an idiot.

Excellent post. KD doesn't want to throw an as-yet-unready Sweich out there and get him embarrassed and have his confidence shaken. He'll come around, apparently just a little bit more slowly than we had hoped. But that's fine - he's a great guy, getting a free college education and hopefully having fun being a part of a great team. No biggie. No biggie. If tonight's game turns into a blowout (which I anticipate), I hope KD gets a chance to use SS54 and others that he doesn't anticipate redshirting. It could be a good opportunity for them to go against some other people and to do some coaching with them in game situations.
