Z.I.P.
Screw you, NCAA. You corrupt organization. Nice that we have a villain to blame.Hopefully, Steve sees how close they came this year, and returns after his Hermann Trophy season. Please Steve, we need your leadership and abilities. With that, we could be where Wake has been all this season.
zippyrifle32
you know what? I'm glad we lost. We didn't deserve to win. We played like a bunch of girls with no heart. The only people I have sympathy for are the fans who traveled to see such a lackluster game.second half was totally different. here's to taking it up the ass... again
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
I'm feeling ill. OMG it's been a year of losing by pretty much every team I care about. I just sent ANOTHER email to D'Ann Keller, the NCAA jerkoff who made the home field call. I would copy and paste here but it would surely get me jammed up with the mods. It was an obscene tirade lemme tell you. I still hope the NCAA nothing but ill, and that those associated with this decision suffer, somehow, for it. Meanwhile, the Zips really did seem lackluster out there. Now, is it harder or easier to recruit when you have what was a highly ranked program in 2008, but lost its home field in the tourney, and lost to the Little Eleven? In the end it's really tough to be a serious fan of Zips sports. The deck is just stacked against you at all times. If you don't have a serious love for underdogs in general, and a high tolerance for suffering and embarrassment, maybe Akron sports aren't for you!STZ
Zipgrad1990
I agree it was a screw job by the NCAA, but the soccer team should have been good enough to win this game regardless. The first half the team looked clueless out there. At least in the second half they showed more aggression. I'm not much of a soccer fan and one thing I hate about it is how hard it is to score. NU goes up 1-0 and I figured it would probably be over as then all NU has to do is sit back and play Defense.
UAZipster0305
If there is any question as to why we need out of the MAC, it has been fully established now...the only team not to go to a bowl game a couple years ago, the NIT snub, and then the #9 seed a couple years ago, but this was atrocious! The irony of today's weather kills me. Given these biases and especially the latter, I no longer expect Steve to win the Herman Trophy even though he's earned it.NU executed as they had to...got their goal and then sat back and just played D.What I take from today's outcome:1) We'll be lucky to keep Coach Porter given our inferior treatment from the NCAA. I wouldn't blame him for leaving like Lolla did.2) The soccer facility upgrade needs to happen this off-season.3) We need out of the MAC. I just can't say that enough. 72 Roo
This is a depressing outcome. We were the better team, but didn't play like it. Yes, the NCAA screwed us and that can't be changed. Let's not forget that this team was good enough to play with anyone in the country. How many other Zip teams can make that statement? They never quit. They played as a team with great purpose, leadership and confidence. If the football team had done that they would have been 9-3. I'm going to let myself feel bad for a short time and then look to how we can get better.Trimmy hit it on the nose with his three points. I agree Mac has got to get us out of the MAC, not only for soccer, but for the future well being of all Zip athletics. Unfortunately, I can't see us getting a better facility next season unless we are ready to give up playing on campus for a full season. It will take that long to tear down the tennis courts, relocate and rebuild the field. My biggest worry is losing Porter. This kind of loss hits coaches in the heart and kills their optimism for getting it done at a school like Akron. Only Mac and Dr. P can solve this issue. They have got to convince Caleb that he will have the commitment, resources and facilities to win a national championship. If he feels, at any time, that is lacking he will be gone. There is too much demand for talented coaches like him to think he will stay w/o our Zip leaders supporting him. I, for one, plan to drop Porter a note thanking him for getting us this far and confirming my belief he will take us all the way to a championship. As we post our frustrations on this thread, let's not forget that this team is part of the solution, not part of the problem. They did all they could and next year looks brighter. I'd hate to see an air of pessimism linger over this program when it has such a great future ahead of it. Remember we started 4 freshmen, 4 sophmores, 1 junior and 2 seniors. We are loaded and will bounce back.Feel bad for now, but the Zips will be back. The NCAA hurt us but didn't kill us and we will be better and stronger.
skip-zip
You know...I'm thinking.....Although I am a long-time Zip football and basketball fan, I did not start following soccer at all until we made it to the national championship game in 1986. And I can't say that I follow them regularly. So, I am hoping someone else can help me with this one.Does it seem like things have been made more difficult for us the better we get as a program?? I know our seeding a few years ago when we were one of the best couple of teams in the country seemed like such a travesty. But, this judgement that a snowy and windy Chicago would be a better place for this game, and the prematurity of the decision really makes no sense. It's almost as if we're looked upon as "well...it's little ole Akron...from the MAC....who cares"?
tbozeglav
I only have this to say:F*** the NCAA, F*** the Big 10, F*** Northwestern...... bastards are what they are.The Bus ride to and from was the most epic experience ever. Willie is the man and Bus#2 was where the party was at. I had a great time. I am royally PISSED we were screwed over like this, but the bus ride made up for the loss. By far the best road trip I have ever been on. Also, Willie let us in on some rumors that are going around the higher-ups in regards to the Jack and it shows they want to make the changes necessary to prevent this from happening again. So tonight, I will have a cold one to rightfully close the season. I will toast to the ROWDIES and other Fans who made the trip to make Northwestern's "Mistake on the Lake" the mobile Jack. But most importantly, I will toast to Caleb and the guys on the team for their great season they gave us. Here's to them and here's to making next year a larger success than this year... minus the NCAA screwing...
