johnnyzip84
Never heard of it?Cap'n, this has to be one of your all-time classics in terms of obscure, "where did he find that", stories I certainly never heard of this until now. But looking at their website, they are supposed to be starting in February of 2009. Those workers better get moving on finishing up the Info One other interesting tidbit. Their commissioner is none other than Joe Cribbs, former Auburn and Bengal RB.LinkHere's another story on this league from the Birmingham News. Apparently, they've already had a player draft. I've seen the team in Akron referred to "Ohio" also, but I've yet to find a complete team name for any of the supposed squads.Birmingham News
RootforRoo44
Please tell me this is played during the spring or summer. I could use some football at that time of year.

skip-zip
Oh...just give them the Rubber Bowl Seriously though, does anyone feel that this will get any kind of support here?
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
The UNGL website specifically states that it will be a January-April league. What a hoot! Here's hoping it has a 1970s ABA vibe. Tacky, flushy unis, outrageous fan stunts, extremely cheap and low quality beer to attract fans, crazy CFL-type rule book, etc. Now THAT would be something fun to watch when its -11 outside.GO ZIPS!STZ
johnnyzip84
I think somewhere in the Birmingham News article, Cribbs states that they'd be thrilled with crowds of 10K to 20K. I think it's POSSIBLE to get something like that at the Info, at least for the 1st few years. And I have a suggestion for the Akron Team nickname.......bring back the Vulcans!!!!Continental Football League Link
johnnyzip84
I managed to find a "Team Ohio" roster. Looks like Yamari Dixon is listed as a safety.Link

And Mike Berry - A LO recruit who out of Michigan never made grades at UA.
Zipmeister
I checked out their preseason roster and the Ohio team is loaded! Somehow they managed to draft Chris Hollie and Demar Greenslade both out of Langston. Now if they can just get Phil Tonga (he has monster hands) to sign they should have the championship locked up. Come to think of it, do you think Jose Cruz might try to make the leap?

Still-a-zip
I hate to rain on this parade, but the new team is going to be in Massillon. They are playing at Paul Brown and practicing in their new indoor facility. It was in the Massillon Independent lastweek sometime. The league is paying Massillon $375,000 to use their facilities. So far this league makes the old Continental Football League look like the NFL.
Captain Kangaroo
It makes sense for Massilon to get the team. I can't imagine UA would want these Beer-leaguers to use its facilities. On the million-to-1 chance that the league became viable, I'm sure we could steal them from Massilon like Akron nabbed the Aeros from Canton.
