Who do you want for the Bracketbuster?

Cleveland State is also a road team this year.I was poking around some sites, and found a link to a bracket buster page at rpiforecast.com (http://www-personal.umich.edu/~risraels/rpiforecast/bb.html) It has all the home and road teams ranked by RPI. Yeah I know they take more into account, but who knows what else they use. (Numbers and games updated through the 18th)These RPI rankings put Akron (RPI 147) at 18th among toad teams. They're sandwiched between Southern Illinois (127) and Iona (144). The home teams ranked in a similar position to Akron right now would be #16 Vermont (133), #17 James Madison (135), #18 Loyola Chicago (139), #19 Illinois-Chicago (141) and #20 Tennessee Martin (151).The Chicagos or James Madison wouldn't be bad as they're managable roadtrips (around 6 hours) for those who'd want to go.

Who would you like to see Akron play in the Bracketbuster? Remember that it's on the road this year.I want Cleveland State. Bad. Gary Waters is too chickensh!t to schedule us on his own. I'm tired of the tactic of teams claiming to be better than a team that you refuse to schedule.
I am exactly the opposite. I don't have a specific team in mind yet but I want the Zips to play somebody that is less regional than CSU if that makes sense. I think it can only help the program if they get exposure in areas where they are not all that well known. More exposure could mean being in the mind of more potential recruits. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see us play CSU but I'd like it to be a scheduled game and if Waters won't go for it I'd like to see that fact get some publicity in NE Ohio.Maybe right now I'd say somebody like UT-Martin, Long Beach State, or Boise State (they'd all make interesting opponents at home next year) would be who I'd most want but really I just want a televised game.

I would LOVE to play CSU. It would be a HUGE regional game...a packed house at either venue if the Zips could muster any sort of a run over the next month. But CSU will get a higher-ranked opponent than the Zips.Seeing where the Zips stand at this time, a middle-rung MVC or Colonial team would be a nice match up. Screw the Chicago-based teams. We can schedule them home/home whenever we choose.Seems like a good thing that we won't play an "upper" mid major. When we have, we're 0-4 (Nevada and VCU).

I hate to take another cheap shot at the local media, but what the hell, they deserve it. If "exposure in areas where we are not all that well known" is your criteria for a bracketbuster game then by all means CSU is EXACTLY where we need to be playing.

Wow...Cleveland StateI think it would generate a lot of excitement. I'd rather it be here rather than in Cleveland, but that place is big enough to get a good Akron crowd in there. This is an interesting time for Cleveland State. After building that huge arena after they had their success in the 80's, they've never managed to generate any significant following. But this could be their time. I, for one, don't want to see it happen because it's a foregone conclusion that a successful CSU basketball team will get tons of airtime on our news networks. I still remember back in 1986, when we had our last conference title and NCAA appearance, we seemed to take a back seat to CSU since they were having similar success at the same season. They were treated as the home team, and we seemed to be looked at as some other school that just happened to be in the viewing area. When we hit that level of accomplishment again, I don't want to be that "oh..and Akron won today too" 5-second blurb at the end of the sportscast.

It angers me too, skip-zip. I will be sitting there watching the news, the sports segment will come on and I'll more often than not hear more about CSU than I wikk about Akron. Now, we have to give credit where credit is due. CSU DID beat Syracuse and that deserved them airtime. We should also give credit to them because they have been having quite a bit of success while we have not. Cleveland news stations/papers/etc. are very much bandwangoners and are the biggest reason the majority of fans are too. They'll only do reports on teams doing well (save for cleveland pro teams, but that's not the point here). If we win some more games, pull off some upsets, we too will be getting quite a bit of airtime...and on topic...I would LOVE to see a CSU/Akron matchup. It'd really be an overall great thing for the Cleveland region and would expose to the general populous the wealth of talent we have in our area.

As was pointed out earlier in the thread it can't be Cleveland State this year. The Zips and Vikings are both road teams in the BracketBusters pool.
Ok. Then let's play CSU @ K.e.n.t.As pointed out earlier in the thread, the Bracketbuster matches "like" teams, and CSU is a few notches above the Zips at this time. Even if the home/away thing lined up, we wouldn't play them.

I laughed when I saw someone actually though Cleveland State was chicken to play Akron.I didn't know playing [beating] Syracuse, West Virginia, Washington, Kansas State, and Butler twice is being chicken.Next year they got West Virginia at home and also got Ohio State and 3 other major programs...Chicken, I think not...$$$ TALKS!

Chicken. Playing those teams doesn't mean they're tough, it means they need cash. Gary Waters refuses to play at Akron, just like many other coaches. Bob Huggins won't bring his team anywhere near the JAR because he has said he's afraid of playing there. Why did you include Butler in your list of teams? Aren't they in the same conference, and thus forced to play each other? What did they have to sell out for to get WVU at home? 3 road whippings?

We saw Waters outside the MAC tournament last year. Zips Win! asked him when he was going to play Akron. He said "we're not ready for that yet" and went on to talk about his hope for a 4-team annual round robin (CSU, UA, Can't State and ?).Laugh all you want eguins--I guess ignorance is bliss.

Actually,, that's been pretty much the mindset in the entire 3 decades I've been supporting the Zips....Teams don't want to play us here..period. It's a no-win situation for someone who is good. They realize that we have a history of dominating at the JAR, and what team that is going somewhere will take that risk?A ranked Nevada team was forced to play here as a return game for a bracketbuster....and we all know what happened. It's actually just smart business for these folks. Why do you want to play a team that is dominant on their home floor when winning really doesn't help you at all.So...they just refuse.
