* OK...how can the Fredrick's Catering commercial that boasts about being the "exclusive caterer for <Rot-ZELL> and <An-DRAY-is>" run all season long? ! It's <RET-Zul> and <AN-dris>!!!! It's the biggest law firm in Akron!!! Gheezus....

* I thought the big ex-cheerleader that exorted the "Give me an 'A'...give me a 'K'...give me an 'R'...etc. cheer was horrible. His substitute last night sounded like he was on quaaludes. Least enthusiastic cheerleader ever.

* Peterson in the dog house? Minutes seem pretty limited?

* Cedrick in the dog house? I don't get why he played so little? Joyce struggled pretty hard on both ends of the court last night. You'd think Ced would have merited a few more minutes?

* Travis still rules.

* Great game by Preston.

* Good game for McFadden to have an off shooting night. It can't happen again on Thursday, though. We will need 80+ to win.

* Myers gave some nice minutes.

* I don't care what anyone says about EMU being "a talented team with a bad record." They're a bad team with a bad record. They have maybe 2 players that I wouldn't mind seeing in a Zips uniform. They could keep the other 13.

- I'm curious about KD's "let my hair down" comment in the post game show. What does he have up his sleeve? Every good coach holds some little thing back, what will it be?

- I think they might be holding DP back a little .. he's pretty much our best scorer & I think that he's going to come up huge against WMU on Thursday.

- It's nice to see all 3 seniors come up big in the thier last few performances at home for the Zips. That's a refreshing change. We're going to need quality minutes from Nick before the year is out, and he's providing them now. Great to see it Nick.

- I've said it before & I'll say it again. Middleton can flat out play. He's going to get better at decision making when he gets to the rack, but right now he's the only one aggressive enough to take the ball at the defense sometime.

- Mario is a great defender .. we WILL miss him after the next 5 games are over ..

- Our crowd size SUCKED last night. Along with the 9 other people I brought to the game, I was most embarrassed to see that kind of showing. Those that were there were into it, but where was everyone else?

Very much looking forward to the Gund. Much more on that later.

Good posts. Peterson had 3 fouls in the 1st half. I assume that he may have not gotten many minutes in the 2nd half because of that? It's also hard to have him and McFadden on the court at the same time. I have always been a big fan of DP, but McFadden is the hot guy now and he can rebound!

ZW has a good point about Cedric. Once he figures out decision making, he will be really tough.

Nice job by Joyce to gut it out. Collins played great, but I was glad to see Dru handling the ball with 2 minutes left.

I'm embarrassed to be an alumni when they do that. PLEASE get rid of it !

The band can stay. Do we really need to hear the phony sounds that are played constantly at NBA games? When they play that noise all game, it just confirms that they need to do something to keep the fans interested because the product on the floor isn't any good. The Zips are a good product to watch right now and well worth the money to go to a game.

I think the whole way that Akron Basketball was marketed this year sucked. Why not put players on the billboards - no one puts a coach front and center. Bad choice.

I also hate the new court paint. Did they run out of blue? It looks cheap and unfinished.

Most of all, Steve French and Joe Dunn suck. Dunn never says anything purposeful and French misses half the action. Take your headphones to a game you can see and tell me I am wrong. Cleveland State has a great announcer. I do not know his name, but that is the kind of guy we need.

After the games they should play Dambrots press confrence on the video screen so others can see it. Better yet they should move it out to the court and let fans ask questions too.

I also think the gold which is on the log should be changed back to yellow. The gold looks like baby crap. Our old yellow helmets in football were unique, now we just look like Notre Dame clones. It is almost like Faust is back in charge. I read the AD bio and saw his kid went to Notre Dame, maybe that is why AKron changed the school colors.

You don't want to get rid of the band, or the cheerleaders for that matter. Do that, and you just about eliminate half of the noise and cheering in the JAR. If you think the JAR is dead now, it would be even worse without the spirit groups. All the rowdy students sit on the band side because we are usually doing all the heckling and yelling. If you think we suck, then you obviously have not heard Can't's band.

I do agree that these cheers they make us do are the cheesiest. They really make us look like fruitcakes.

I don't think I can agree with anything you got going on here.

Dambrot is being marketed because he is an "Akron" guy...good move.

The floor is fine, you must not have been around long enough to remember our BAD courts.

French and Dunn have been around a long time. While I don't like some of Steve's "here we go again" attitude, and Joe is a big homer, I would say on the whole, they are fine. Listen to Can't's broadcast, you'll like Steve and Joe a lot more.

Who in the heck stays around to watch a video screen AFTER the game???

While color is a matter of opinion. I disagree. I like what marketing has done with our "look"

Mike Thomas is an AD, not a designer. They hired a design group to do the color and logo.

Silver and gold are the "new" complementary colors to teams new looks. Eg. Patriots, Rams...etc.

Geez, KingZip, don't hold back. Maybe rather than listing all the stuff you don't like you should just state the stuff you do like....if there's anything at all.

The cheerleaders and the band, overall, are much better this year (except for that one cheer). They should work more in tandem and conjunction with each other. I've seen many other schools where it is obvious the band and cheerleaders have coordinated their stuff much better than we do.

Dambrot is a product of this community and is recognized as one of us. I liked him on the billboards. Also, this is a team without a star, BB has no Charlie Frye, and so putting a player on there would make no sense. I thought it was a great decision for this year.

In fairness to French and Dunn, I have been critical of them in the past but I thought they were also much improved this year. Steve French is really having fun with his job for once and it shows through. Your one good thought was your suggestion to put a camera on Keith for the post-game and show it on the video board for those still in the arena (how many are left in the arena by the time Keith gets on?). Might be a good idea.

As far as the colors, as I understood it back when they switched it, this "new" gold is actually the "old" gold - the original color. I remember when we had a gold closer to what we have now. The banana yellow was a change made maybe ten years ago. Thank God we got rid of it - anyone remember Can't's football uni's this year? :blink:

my impressions of the cheerleaders and fans at the game.

Our radio crew is so much better then Needle at Can't State.

The court looks so much better now and is nicer on TV and no dirty footprints showing on the sidelines after the fans walk in.

I agree with King Zip regarding the Dambrot poster.

Posters go on the walls of students and kids. I hung one in my kid's room. I think he'd rather have a big pic of Travis tearing down the rim than a 43 year old guy in a business suit.

If you think the Akron band is better than the Can't State basketball band you have another thing coming. Akron's band is a friggin' joke. The marching band sucks beyond comprehension. Try travelling to Ohio or even down to Hudson to see a real marching band. The Akron band was embarassed by Central State and Howard two years ago at the Rubber Bowl and they play the same crap year in and out. The basketball band looks like a bunch of dorks in their golf shirts and trying to be taunting fans. Maybe they should spend some more time learning how to play because their song selection is pathetic.

I like the fact that the teams are winning and the U has some new facilities. Other than that the program is really in the dumper.

The court just got changed this year and so I do not follow how you think the doberman is going to go away any time soon. If this has been written somewhere please let me see some proof and I will have a better day.

Well, KingZip, I gotta agree with you about our band compared to Can't's. We look uptight....wound tight....and with no wild hairs at all. I could probably assure you that none of our band members played in a rock band for fun in high school. Maybe they should all have a little nip before the game - just those over 21, of course.

I dig the doberman. Better to look like a tough kangaroo than some overexposed eagle like half the schools in the MAC. We can't help it if no one knows what a kick-a** kangaroo looks like. Let them live and learn what a Zip is, hopefully the hard way.

Are you guys honestly comparing Akron's Band with Can't State’s band?!I know that I am partial to the Zips, but as far as musical skill, we outclass them in every way (Akron's school of music is one of the best in the state)As far as rowdiness, I personally made the refs threaten a technical foul (I was whistling WAY to loudly) just last year.If you want your band to be nothing more than a gang of hooligans, that’s one thing. But I think we should hold ourselves to a higher standard than our rivals.
