I've spent a lot of time over the past 10 years beating on the local papers for their shoddy-to-invisible coverage of Zips Athletics. So it is only fair that I give a little praise when someone does something well. Nice feature by Tom Gaffney. He's done several lately, and I've learned a lot from every one of them.Nice job, Tom. Keep up the great work!

Hats off to Rick, this time somebody smacked an Akron coach in a good way. ''It really was (assistant coach) Ricky McFadden that kind of smacked me in the face and said, 'Coach, what are we doing? The guy is killing us in practice,' '' said Dambrot

I have to echo Rasor's comments in today's entries. It's GREAT to have 2 beat writers following the Zips. And having the weekly detail (not game) story in both papers has been nice. Gaffney seems to be pumping out 2 stories per game. A lead up and then the game wrap. As we climb the mountain .. it will continue to help. When the Zips win a big game .. Elton's stuff is more likely to find it's way to the front of Sports in the PD than if he wasn't following them so closely.Great work by both writers.gO'Zips! B)

Definitely. I had made up my mind to drop the ABJ but the coverage has been so good that now I'm definitely (and happily) going to have to renew my subscription.
I actually dropped my subscription a year and a half ago cause I was so disgusted by the lack of coverage. But if this continues I will subscribe once again!
