I have a class with some football player, and he was joking the other day about how Akron doesn't have "a chance" at beating Penn state. I dont know who the kid is, how important he is to the team(probably not very), but his attitude is exactly the issue that this program has to overcome.
Players like that shouldn't be allowed on the team. You play to win, or you go home.
I agree, the last I checked they are 19 to 23 year old young men if you have that attitude you will get your ass kicked..man up...
I agree 100%. I think the player should be outed to the team, the coaches, and this community. Then he should be cut from the team (whoever he is). There are still many unsigned high skilled players (many still available in the JUCO ranks) that would give their all to be able to play at UA. This unknown player with this attitude can easily be replaced with someone who will be much much more valuable to this team. In my book, anyone player who thinks that we can't beat Penn is someone that I would not allow on the team. Just my opinion. Maybe some people have their doubts about this season's group of players, but I do not. It would be different if the 2009 Zips were the 2008 Zips, but we're not. Somebody better get this mesaage to the team. We do have the talent, I just hope we have the faith/heart to pull off a beautiful upset. Just think of the Big Big Party we all want to be a part of. GO ZIPS! CRUSH PENN. KICK THEIR ASSES!!! :champs::gun::cheers:
Nice to hear from you, dreal1scout! And I agree totally about what kind of attitude should be required of the entire team. But I must correct you in one respect, if you don't mind. The Zips are opening with Penn STATE, not Penn. I'm pretty sure we'd be heavy favorites over Penn, even though they're a decent Ivy League program. Hey, you can always blame the confusion on the California sun :) Go Zips!!

Looks Like USD is off the schedule.(Source)The Coyotes were close to playing an additional road game with Division I FBS Akron, but because USD's games against bowl-eligible teams will not count until next season, the Zips - after unsuccessfully petitioning the NCAA to have the game count - are pursuing other schools.Akron could still play USD if attempts to find another opponent fail, but a decision on that would come later in the year.

Hmm, what we know so far...9-5 @ Penn State9-12 ???9-19 Indiana9-26 ??? (Colorado has an open date, Miami is Trying to buy out of the 9-12 match up. However the Buffs are at WV on Thursday)10-3 ??? (Wyoming at BGSU, Bowling Green was willing to change this game to assist Miami in getting Kentucky, this is a good possibility)10-10 ??? 10-17 ???10-24 @ Syracuse10-31 ???11-7 ???11-14 ???11-21 ??? at least two of these November games will be Wedsday Thursday11-28 ???12-4 MAC Championship (@ Ford Field)We also know that we didn't play Miami last season, that means we will have to play them this season. Assuming an alphabetic rotation, and that Can't will never not be on the schedule, the most likely MAC East team we will not play is going to be Ohio. Temple and Can't will be home games, Buffalo and BGSU are both away games. Miami is a toss up, but I think we played at Miami the last time we faced them. That leaves one MAC West team for a home game. If logic prevails are home games should be Indiana, Can't, Temple, Miami, Directional Michigan (East or West), Random FCS school or Wyoming. We should have 6 home games for the first time in as long as I can remember.

I heard a rumor Tuesday and I stress the word RUMOR that they might move the opening of Infocision up 1 week to 9/12 and they are trying to get Morehead ST. for that game.Again, at this time, it is strictly a rumor. And, I don;t putmuch faith in rumors.
Wow..that would be a real buzz kill.

Agreed. That would be the exactly wrong thing to do.

CUSA schedules are trickling in today.http://www.fbschedules.com/The Colorado thing seems to make too much sense not to happen, unless our coach and AD really is concerned about 3 straight weeks agains the big boys. If they were willing to play Miami on 9/12, not sure why they would have an issue playing Akron on that same date. Wisconsin and Colorado look to be the only 2 of the Big 6 conferences that has an opening where they would travel. And Wisky's opening is on 10/24..day we play at Syracuse. These last few teams need to get on a conference call and figure things out!!!!

I have always hated Kentucky, and they seem to be one of the biggest reasons for the delays. First they dump out on us, now they want Miami, which screws up their schedule and sends ripples to screw up others!!!
For the record we dumped out on them because buying out of the Wisconsin game last year was more expensive then buying out of the Kentucky games.

I'm still rooting for Northwestern, but if they keep the Miami game on another date, NW will have already have twelve games. If they don't, NW only has 5 away games this season, we could make it 6. I'd have no problem opening up the Info a week or two early for Northwestern, but we need a BCS school for the opening, so if not another BCS school, Indiana will be just fine. We could go on the road against NW but if they're in a scheduling bind, I wouldn't do it without a home game the following year.

My apologies. Thank you for setting me straight. Still hate them, but won't falsely hold this against them.

I thought about that (OK..we will play you there this year and only have 5 home games, but then you play us at Info in 2010). Problem is, as of right now, we play at MSU, Kentucky and Indiana next year.2010 Sep 4 at Michigan State East Lansing, MI Sep 11 at Kentucky Lexington, KY Sep 18 Syracuse Oct 9 at Indiana Bloomington, IN http://cfbpalace.net/akron.htmlAssuming that site is correct..which it definitely sometimes is not.Once again..Colorado at Akron on 9/12 pretty much solves everything for Miami, Kentucky, Akron & Colorado. Nwestern is the only team with an issue there. Perhaps there is some other MAC team that can fill in there.

Hadn't heard about a potential MSU game yet, but if the site is right we need home games in 2011. Maybe Northwestern could fit in then? But you're right about that site not always being accurate, they have our all time record against Indiana as being 2-1, which it is when you count Indiana University of Pennsylvania, which they did. :)

According to Graham Watson at ESPN, the Miami-Colorado game is officially off - and the date was supposed to be Sep. 12th, the date we still have open. Colorado would be great, regardless of whether it is a week early.Colorado off RedHawks' schedule March 11, 2009 4:04 PMPosted by ESPN.com's Graham Watson After much controversy, the nonconference schedule for Miami (Ohio) is finally complete but won't be released to the public until the Mid-American Conference schedule is official. And that could be a couple of weeks away. That's when Miami will announce that its nonconference schedule consists of Kentucky, Northwestern, Boise State and Cincinnati in 2009. (My edit - that is a terrific non-conference schedule).Gone from Miami's original nonconference schedule is Colorado, which was supposed to play the RedHawks at Yager Stadium on Sept. 12.For weeks it's been speculated that the Colorado game would be dumped in favor of a matchup against Kentucky on Sept. 5. A Miami official confirmed Wednesday that the Northwestern game, which had been originally scheduled for Sept. 5, was moved, but couldn't specify the new date.Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn did not immediately return a message left Wednesday morning.By terminating the contract with Colorado, the RedHawks are on the hook for a $750,000 guarantee. There is no word on whether the school or the conference will foot that bill or whether Miami will find a replacement opponent for Colorado. The only MAC team with an open nonconference date is Akron, but teams such as Bowling Green, Toledo and Northern Illinois have been mentioned as possibilities to fill that slot. There is a lot of backstory to this scheduling snafu that probably won't be revealed until after the schedules are officially released. Some of it has to do with television and some of it has to do with poor scheduling and communication. It will be interesting to see how the entire scenario shakes out.

Ahhh, one of Bill Clinton's two favorite schools.I certainly don't want on OVC team to open the Info.

Word is that Toledo has been forced by Rick Chryst to drop their saturday home game with Boise State to play Colorado on a friday, competing against high school football for fans. This means that Boise State is now in the market for a trip to a MAC school.
If that is true that would seem idiotic, since we have an open date. I wonder if there is a chance Akron doesn't want to open a week earlier since we've been hyping the opening of the Info on Sep 19th.

I heard from a creditable source that the Zips will NOT take on a fourth BCS opponent, home or away. Boise State would be a nice non-BCS possibility.
Why not a 4th BCS team? Just because Syracuse and indiana are affiliated with the BCS doesn't make them better then a team like Boise State. In fact, Colorado would have been an easier game.

Unlike basketball, the easier the schedule in football the better. Win 7-8 games and get a bowl game. I used to be anti Div 1-AA but everyone else is doing it now and by having Morehead St be the home opener followed up with Indiana and Can't at some point, we should be guaranteed 3 crowds of at least 25K.
