Jabari at QB definitely stands out the most. Last work I heard was that Luke was leading the off season workouts and stepping in nicely to Charlie's sizeable shoes. Maybe it is simply a "respect thing" and Jabari has paid his dues, so it is his job to lose? Maybe we go with two QB's this year? It is definitley something to watch this spring.

I'm happy to see we have 10 OL's available to play this spring!

Ferguson as the #3 QB? I thought Shoemaker had the edge?

Spaulding at FB. He's a big kid who never seemed to grasp the safety position. Is he at FB because he's turely in the backfield mix? Or, is it just because we're short-handed at FB until Tuzze gets on campus?

Brandon Butler #2 DL? Probably the second biggest shocker of the list.

Boy are we small at DL this spring.

Very inexperienced at LB.

No Stephon Fuqua?

Mackey up to 200 lbs?

Trying Parris McNeal again in the defensive backfield?

What's Chevin Pace's injury? SS and not CB?

It will be interesting to watch Devanso Tate. If he's as good as advertised, our trio of CB's will be pretty tough (Corner, Henry and Tate).

That's all I have. If any "insider" has some answers to the questions above, I'd love to hear them.

1st of all, this is the former OLDSCHOOLZIP. I decided to change my name when I realized that having only followed the Zips for 11 seasons, which pales in comparison to some of you, I'm not as "old school" as I thought I was. But anyways, to answer the questions that I can for you Cap'n...

1. From everything I've heard, Brookhart promised Arthur another fair shot at the QB position after he unselfishly agreed to switch to WR for last season. Arthur is one of the hardest workers on the team, and has basically outworked everyone else in so far as Brookhart had no choice but to make him the starter going into Spring camp. In all likelihood however, Getsy will be the starter at Arthur back at WR.

2. I have no idea about the Ferguson/Shoemaker situation. But it's the third string QB. Who really cares, ya know? If Getsy gets hurt then Arthur will be back at QB. If they're both hurt....well....we're SOL either way.

3. No idea about Spaulding. I've met him a couple of times...doesn't really look like he's got your typical fullback build (pretty thin). Gotta believe it's Tuzze's job once he's on campus.

4. Very surprised about Butler too. I'd heard he was a great practice player and well liked by the coaches, but I expected to see him on the chart at LB. DT???

5. We are pretty small, but from everything I know about the 3-3-5 defense we ran a majority of the time last year, it depends on speed and having D-Lineman quick enough to get into their gaps. That appears to be what JD and staff are going for here, which is also evidenced by the size of the D-Lineman in the recruiting class.

6. Inexperienced LB's but very talented. I still think we are going to be better off at this position with the new faces than we were last year.

7. I hope Fuqua is still on the team. He's a tremendous athlete, I watched him run track in HS.

8. Good to see Mackey bulking up. I think he's going to be a real hard nosed solid player for us, ala John Fuller.

9. PLEASE DON'T START PARIS MCNEAL. I got very sick of watching this kid loaf around the field and throw arm tackles early on last season before they finally sat him down. Maybe he's changed, I don't know.

10. No idea about Pace, hope he's good to go next season. He's our leading returning tackler.

11. I said it four months ago: Tate is our next great DB. He'll unseat one of the two CB's and have an outstanding season. Get pumped about him.

That's my two cents buddy.

I believe you have to give Arthur a shot at QB......Plus it is sitll the first depth chart of the spring it will change many times before the Zips goto Purdue.....

Pace was last as the SS last year but in nickel situations he will line up one on one with a WR.

I believe Fuqa is a grades issue......Don't qoute me but I think that is it. He was a very good student in highschool.....I hope he hits the books and can be back in the fall. He will be a huge deep target at WR.......

Give me a huge NG and I will take a 270 - 265 DE with speed.......

Don't forget the incoming freshman are not on the depth chart yet and I have a feeling some of them will be on it when they get here......

The position NT on the depth chart play more like a DE. The NG is the guy who lines up vs. the center or either gaurd.

I can tell you exactly why Fuqua has grades issues. He is an engineering major. :chair:

But where is Donte Cloud?

That would explain it. I still recall my GPA after 3 semesters in Akron's Engineering program. It was basically my high school GPA, but divided by 2.

I always marvel at the collegiate athletes that juggle majors like engineering with such a demanding practice, work-out and travel schedule. I know I couldn't do it.

Why should you marvel? The rest of us managed to Juggle our classes and still keep to our demanding "drinking schedules :CK_brew::CK_brew::CK_brew: !"

When will the roster be out?

It would be nice to see if certain guys are just not on the 2-deep, or if they aren't on the team.

If I remember correctly, last year they didn't put up an updated roster until AFTER Spring was over. Most other schools put up a spring roster, I don't know why we don't. What I'd really like to see is another spring prospectus thing like they put up last spring. That was very informative on some of the new faces.

Andy Alleman at guard is a surprise to me. The guy lettered at least one year at Pitt on defense. Are we that thin at OL or do we have good depth at DL?

The 3-3-5 defense depends on smaller, quicker d-lineman who can get into their gaps and ends and tackles who can contain the quarterback. Alleman at almost 300 lbs doesn't exactly fit that mold....but we are also VERY thin in terms of QUALITY OL.

I hated you people. ;) Why does a 1 credit hour Engineering lab require 4 hours of class and 3 hours of homework a week? Still, I think every minute was worth it! Nerds RULE!
