ZachTheZip Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 LinkThe NCAA is implementing an "imaginary arc" under the basket. A freaking imaginary arc. The NBA at least has one painted on their courts. The potential for abuse by crooked refs and idiots here is astounding. Quote
Dave in Green Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 An imaginary arc for imaginary fouls. NCAA logic at its best. Quote
skip-zip Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 Pretty interesting. Thanks for the link.Even with my basketball background, I can't see a lot of good with this. It's open to interpretation, which essentially means that anyone could call it differently at any moment. There's WAY too much room for variances. I can only see one positive, and that's that they are trying to eliminate guys sliding into the paint at the last moment to draw a charging foul. Ok, I get it, and it "sounds" like it makes sense. But, the high degree of interpretation won't help anyone. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 I swear Zips fans whine about basketball refs more than any other fans in the nation. If we had better refs in 2008-9, our overall record would have been no different. Would some of the games have been more watchable? Yes. But the record would be the same. The MAC needs to tell their refs one thing: "Fans are here to watch a basketball game. They aren't here to see a free throw shooting contest. Ease up on the mid-court hand checking fouls guys. Let the players play a little."Done. I've solved the MAC ref issue. Darryl Roberts' scoring will suffer...but that's about it. Quote

But neither should fans simply give all refs a free pass. Calling out questionable officiating when it is witnessed can be a constructive element in encouraging improvement. Personally, I'm more selective than I used to be, and no longer come home hoarse after every game. But an integral part of being a sports fan is to always feel free to express yourself after witnessing what you perceive to be poor performance by paid professionals. Quote
ZippyTuba11 Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 A way for the University level to solve this is put the arc in themselves... Quote
