infofan
My understanding is there will be endzone seating for students on the grass and standing room in north endzone. How about a new tradition of having the Rowdies in endzone cheering against opponent/for zips and switching sides when teams are driving. Having been at Can't last year I can attest that mass of zip fans in the face of Can't really was intimidating to them- and it pumped up our guys!! Just a thought. I think those guys deserve a good vantage point!

ZachTheZip
The grass hill behind the goal at the soccer field is a favorite for the Rowdies. I think it will be the same way at the Info. If otehr students want to sit, let them have the stands. I'll be there on the hill half hanging over onto the field yelling at the team. Zipsrifle
We should have enough students to fill the endzone sections and BOTH grass endzone areas!
ZachTheZip
There are 5,500 student seats. I don't know if that includes the grass hill or not.

I thought I read on here somewhere that they weren't going to do sod because it would get ripped up so easily, but exactly how are you going to get a good grass base to grow in 2 months starting in July? Those guys with the grass seed sprayers should have been in there MONTHS ago!
MaxZIP
They should just throw some rubber chips on there as a play on the rubber bowl. Firestone probably has tons of recalled tires around to use.
UADavid
On Lee Jackson on the corner of Brown and Exchange, they dug what looks like a small retention pond and finally smoothed it all out. I saw yesterday that they used that green colored seeding slurry to get the grass growing. The state uses it often in highway construction areas. It might be what they do with "the hill". This process has mixed results on steep grades.
Dr Z
On Lee Jackson on the corner of Brown and Exchange, they dug what looks like a small retention pond and finally smoothed it all out. I saw yesterday that they used that green colored seeding slurry to get the grass growing. The state uses it often in highway construction areas. It might be what they do with "the hill". This process has mixed results on steep grades. It's called hydroseeding. Hydroseeding is a popular means of planting grass due to its relative ease of use and effectiveness. Hydroseeding is a process by which seed, water, fertilizer, fiber mulch, and sometimes lime are blended together in a tank and applied onto a prepared lawn area through a spraying hose. Once sprayed, the wet fiber mulch will help create a bond to the soil and provide the seeds with a water retaining blanketing-coat while protecting it from sunlight, wind, and erosion. As the grass seeds begin to germinate, the fiber mulch will slowly decompose adding nutrients to the soil.Advantages of Hydroseeding 1. If you are planting a relatively large area, hydroseeding can be completed in a very short period of time. 2. Hydroseeding can be very effective for hillsides and sloping lawns to help with erosion control and quick planting. 3. Hydroseeding will typically cost less than planting with sod, but more than regular seeding. 4. Results are often quick with high germination rates producing grass growth in about a week and mowing maintenance beginning around 3-4 weeks from the date of application. Fiber mulch accelerates the growing process by maintaining moisture around the seeds thereby increasing the rate of germination.Disadvantage of Hydroseeding as opposed to sodding the area.1. It will take longer to thicken.2. It will will be more susceptible to disease in NEO August as it will be humid at night. Watch out for Pythium blight.3. Water water water. Get a good automated watering system.4. Root system will not be as strong within one year, two years, etc...5. One strong thunderstorm within a week or two of planting on a hillside will wipe it out. Please take note of this one UA groundskeeper, this happen to me last year and the top highest part of my lawn has still not recovered. But the bottom of the hill looks awesome. Putting thousands of fans on a grass berm, particularly in NEO Ohio with all sorts of weather conditions, is just plain silly.
Dr Z
I'm guessing it will cost fifteen hundred to hydroseed that hill. I think it will look great to have grass on that hill.

Dr Z
Have you been to a rainy day Zips home game? You don't see many Rowdies. I'm guessing 'Rowdies on The Rise' will be closed during bad weather. Any college football fan that has sat at Virginia on the hill to watch a game, can't, just can't be against hillside seating!?! Anybody that is against it, hasn't experienced it. Trust me, it's cool.
HOLLYWOODZIPPY
I have been to bad weather soccer games and seen plenty of Rowdies, I assume that the stadium being on campus will bring em out. I really hope they get the hill finished in time, I think it is going to give the stadium the most character over any other aspect, given the right amount of participation. MDZip
Stadium cams have something green going down on the hill right now - I can only guess from the cams but it looks like sod. In any case, it's going on now - that should end the debate.
