zipsbandman
Have to say I'm impressed and a St. Ed's and yet another Ohio product no less. Guy's blazing fast and has some size. It's safe to say we're starting to see the stadium take effect.

MDZip
Certainly glad to see another good recruit but I can't say I see what maybe some of you see. Both profiles listed that he had interest in BCS type schools but I didn't see any interest the other way. Akron appeared to be his only offer. Did we just get in so fast and good that we beat everyone to it?

ZachTheZip
I wish I had a subscription to Rivals. The Iowa board there is going nuts over this. I wish I could see that they're saying.
xu9697
Dang, I thought I was going to break this news!!Wow, Hoobler and Cunningham!?!?!?Not sure how he is a 1 star getting those offers and being at St. Ed's. I expect that to change soon.More than at other schools (ie. BCS schools), I think it is so important for Akron to perform well this year to help keep these kids solidly committed to UA>
Quickzips
Anyone with some insight into how this kid is as an actual football player? I see he can run fast, and he's from St. Eds which is traditionally a good football school, but I always get nervous with kids like this. The old "track star in pads" route hasn't worked for a lot of guys. When you start asking them to run routes and hit people and all that it changes things big time. The old "track star in pads" route hasn't worked for a lot of guys. When you start asking them to run routes and hit people and all that it changes things big time.ESPN has this to say on him. Seems like a fair assessment of his strengths and weaknesses.Cunningham may be a better total football player than he is a positional prospect. Has good height and adequate overall size for a defensive back. Fluid pedal and plays with good bend. Breaks hard and fast and is very productive making plays on the ball in front of him. More athletic than he is fluid through his hips and turns making safety a more likely possibility at the next level. Good deep coverage defender with his height, long frame, good range and ball skills. Shows good acceleration making up ground when the ball is in the area. Displays strong hand technique pressing, forcing receivers to an outside release and fighting off the stalk-block. We feel he will do a good job at the next level running the alley from a high-point safety position ad getting over the trash. Strong tackler who makes solid contact. However, he will still need to add size and strength to play in the box as an 8th defender; has a longer frame and leverage could be an issue at the point of attack. Struggles at times changing direction and breaking down sharply in space. Could have difficulty playing over the top of quicker D-I slots and mirroring. Needs to work on hips and flexibility. Corner is still a possibility in a hard, underneath cover 2 scheme with his ability to jam, play the run and close fast on the ball. Overall, Cunningham is a bit of a tweener corner/safety but a competitor with great speed and athleticism.

He doesn't appear to be afraid to hit anyone from what I saw and he seems to be able to do a good job of getting between the receiver and the ball to break up plays. The kid turned down offers from three other BCS schools. Do you really think they just toss offers out to guys solely because of their speed? There's no question, this is another big time commitment. Now we're right about where we should be, maybe a little on the low end, as far as quantity of verbals. The quality of the recruits is very good, however.Verbals seem to come in waves. I hope that this will cause some other top prospects out there to follow suit.
