ZachTheZip
It's game day! Akron is taking on South Florida in a pre-season exhibition. Just because it doesn't count doesn't mean this won't be a highly contested game with both teams going all-out. USF sees an opportunity to knock off a top team and get some attention, while the Zips have revenge on their minds, remembering the last time they came here. ZachTheZip
Zips win 3-1 over the #12-ranked South Florida Bulls. Aside from one or two lapses, this was total domination by the Zips. We had 9 shots on goal to their 1.Too bad the lighting system is completely screwed up. The lights on the north side of the firld shut off twice, once during halftime which delayed it, and again in the 68th minute, causing a stoppage of play. At least it happened during an exhibition game and not during the most important game of the year, our next home game against Indiana, so they have almost a month to fix it. I sure hope they're not doing the same with Lee Jackson Field just because they have the new soccer stadium on the drawing board.
Zipsrifle
Read the article at Gozips.com and it sounds like we pretty much owned the field after the first 10 minutes. Exciting to read about all the young players on the team making an impact and we are still one of the top teams in the country. I wonder how the new goalie will progress as Bush was pretty much a wall back there. He allowed one goal on only a few attempts...I'm not a soccer guy so is this an area of concern? Also glad to read about the 1700 people in attendance last night, that is really high for an exhibition game right? Glad to see the guys come out and dominate, solidifying their place in the rankings. As for the light issues, I was under the impression that the "New Soccer Stadium" would be an overhaul of the existing field? Seeing the slap in the face we got last year for the field, you would think keeping it in tip top shape would be a priority this year. Hope they get it fixed for Indiana. Speaking of Indiana, what is the capacity at the soccer stadium? What is the record attendance?

I wasn't at the game so I can't say forsure, but I'm not to worried the shot he let in could've been an amazing shot...I mean I've seen soccer games where a goalie let a goal in didn't make a single save and still won....But the team sounds like they are on the right track....and I have watched some practices during breaks from band camp the goalies looked pretty tight
MDZip
Always interesting to get the perspective from the other side as well ...USF Point of View“I have to give Akron a lot of credit,” said USF head coach George Kiefer. “They did a good job for 90 minutes and came out with a lot of intensity. The looked extremely comfortable out there tonight and looked like they were in midseason form."
Z.I.P.
Very impressive. Valentin and Barson starting on back line -- Caldwell came off the bench. How do you tell a guy with that much international experience he's a reserve -- only thing is there are three like that, and Kofi and Korb are the experienced guys. Matt Dagilis, as great as he is, looks like odd man out? What a defense! Don't worry about Meves. This kid is the highest rated GK in club history -- by far. And I still feelin it for Evan Bush. The crowd seems like it would have been one of the largest of last season -- is that an omen, that the new stadium needs say 4-5k seats? There was no info this summer in Gozips.com about any UA players in the PDL. Does that mean they forgot, or that no one played? How about the Big Norwegian?

Also, I see that Malawi has qualified for the U-17 WC, which is in Oct-Nov in Nigeria. Mwila, our frosh f-lash MAY be eligible, but then again, chances are he's beyond the age group limits for that one. I don't know when camp will start for the U-20s, so its hard to tell if Zarek will be around Zip City for key games in September. In any case, we DO have depth...to say the least.
