This ain't the lame-O Rubber Bowl anymore guys. You wearing those bracelets will generate discussion, which will hopefully get a few more asses in the seats, which will help to build fan base, etc., etc.
Oh it generated A LOT of discussion....NEGATIVE DISCUSSION from ALL the students I talked to (which was a lot I work in SU and talk a lot)

There must be some law against this  I really don't think this is a great idea. Forcing students to wear a wristband for a few days...I could have believed that, but for 12!!! I guess if someone passes up the home opener because of a stupid wristband I hardly miss them. In my opinion a silicone bracelet would have been a great idea! The buzz should be there at least. Hearing my fellow students complain just means they're interested...right?

While it may have come across as otherwise, I didn't make this thread to whine about the wristbands. I sincerely feel that the decision to use these wristbands has tossed a rotten egg at the glowing image that was building with the students. There were a lot of kids I talked to that said they were really excited for the first game and couldnt wait to get their tickets, but when they were met with this haphazard solution, they were turned off and now seem a bit sour about the game. Akron needs as many students as possible to show up... but this is not how you do that.

Hmm, so doing something that professional teams have done to handle season ticket, and single game ticket sales for years, was the wrong solution? They have used the wristband system for a long time. You tell the rest of the students to suck it up and quit making excuses. You have no excuse now.:wave:

I have no issues with the system itself, rather the way in which the system is implemented. If you get season tickets from a professional team, do you have to wear your wristband from the day you get the tickets till the last game? No... they are given to you to put on at your convenience before the game. There is a bit of a difference.

No, take the Indians for example, you go to the ticket office, wait in line, you are randomly assigned a wristband. 3-5 days later you come back to get your tickets. It's done over and over and over.Instead of complaining, and presenting it in a bad light you should be chastising those that don't have one. Every complaint (except from the factory worker) has been about dress code, and that can be easily hidden under work appropriate attire. The one sacrifice they ask you to make "don't remove this band for 12 days" you guys act like they asked you to pay money or cut off a hand.Put it on, get over it, and be there.

I think you guys all have it wrong. The reason for the wristbands is to prevent students from selling their ticket. These first few games are going to be sellouts and I'm sure that someone didn't like the idea of students scalping tickets outside the stadium on opening day.
no that can't be it. it would be easier to print student on a ticket, plus we still need our zipcards. so i wouldn't know how students would be able to sell them except to other students. but then that's stupid on the student buying them since we get in for free.

While I acknowledge that some of the arguments made not only by myself, but by others as well were trivial, I must respectfully disagree. I know its just a wristband, nothing more. I understand its not a big issue to those on the outside. However, as much as I want to agree with you that this is a non-issue, the one remaining fact that still leaves me annoyed is that there are far better ways this situation could have been handled. The wristbands work, as you pointed out, if its only a few days. The issue with 2 weeks was that there was no guaranteeing that the wristband would make it through showers, work, and everyday wear-and-tear. I know from experience that most wristbands I have ever worn never really made it past 3 or 4 days. Compound that with the fact that those who were handing out the wristbands bluntly said that we had to wear it for 2 weeks with no other options available and no exceptions, and you might begin to understand where many students are coming from.To date, I have yet to find a clear answer to why they chose this route for student tickets. It doesn't quite make sense regardless of which way I try to look at it. Aside from the cost of making those wristbands (far less than real tickets I am assuming), there doesn't seem to be any reason to validate the need for a non-removable wristband. I guess, however, I should just give up trying to explain my thoughts on this to everyone as it seems as though some who have posted in this thread felt they should only find faults in my arguments and exploit them to validate their own opinions. I suppose its alright since thats all the internet has become and I should only expect that much. As you so wonderfully pointed out, g-mann, I will deal with the wristbands and move on with life. It wont kill me; I'll be annoyed, but I will manage. I have felt this way since the moment I was given the wristband. However, I guess I shouldnt feel so free as to post my thoughts on this ingenious solution to an issue I never knew existed.

BAH! Who cares, the tickets are still FREE! At first I kind of thought it was stupid but now I kinda like it. It's cool to see all the people wearing them and feel the buzz around campus. That sucks for anyone working in a factory or place with a strict dress code but hey, isn't the home opener worth losing your job/arm???

Be grateful it isn't handcuffs, like so many Lions players have worn over the last few years. Those guys perturb me greatly. (I stated it that way b/c I wasn't sure if I could say "pi$$" on this thread/website.)
 + 1 Please keep posting after the 5th
I still keep in touch with some of the Oregon State fans from last year, ChristianZip, so will try to visit with you guys as well. It looks like an exciting season for Akron!

I just don’t like being FORCED to wear something for 2 weeks. I could cut the wristband and sell it as I would a ticket (swear I'm not that desperate) so that doesn't really make sense. I'm not walking around complaining or anything, but they could have just handed us the wristband. I can see why I hear so many people who are upset/confused.Nevertheless, I've actually decided not to cut it off and re-tape it just to show my excitement for the new stadium. I like walking around campus looking for blue wristbands: Akron Pride. It feels as if students have been turned into walking advertisements, I just hope it isn't an advertisement for stupid admissions policies....and to people dismissing the substantial number of complaints as childish I hope you are wearing a wristband. If not please lock yourself in our shoes.Lets Go Zips! Akron Pride

W00t! I figured out how to get my wristband off without cutting it so listen up folks. Take a staple remover and use the jaws to hold the snap button in place and make sure one of the teeth touch the inner groove. I am a UA trained engineer and I figured I'd get it eventually. All I have to do is snap the button back in and I'm there. Bandman will be at the game with no problems. On a related note, expect probably the largest student turnout we've seen at a UA athletic event. Being on campus, there is a definite buzz. Students are pretty excited for the tailgate especially.
