psc2009
Chris Jacquemain is officially off the Zips and the running backs coach was suspended for an unrelated incident. It's been a rough week for UA.http://themacdaily.com/index.php?news&nid=190Note: Title was moderator-edited. The coach is not "out," as stated in the original title. ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
Here's hoping that Matt pulls a rabbit out of the CMU hat and the Zips shock us with a win. Man, what a sweet victory that will be. We need that, a lot.

Captain Kangaroo
Ferri, who was in his sixth season with the UA program, has been placed on administrative leave with pay, pending a school review of whether he violated compliance requirements related to NCAA rules on recruiting. We will see what the results of the investigation reveal.Like many members of the football staff, Coach Ferri has been a tremendous supporter of ZipsNation. I first contacted him in 2004, asking for information regarding the Zips program that I wasn't getting from the Beacon. He agreed on one condition - "That nothing ever be asked negatively about the Zips program." I kept to that.I've spoken to him many times over the past several years. If you have enjoyed any of my recruiting or program updates, you might as well thank him. As many of you know, the guy went out of his way to give a commentary and review of the 2009 recruiting class to many of us at the OBC last spring. I don't need to tell you how rare it is for a coach to embrace the fans from a message board. But he did. He's a West Point graduate. Father of two toddlers, and as solid a man as I have ever met. He deserves the benefit of the doubt at this time.

I attended the presentation at OBC last year and thought coach seemed a great guy, very likable and professional. If I had a kid being recruited Ferri seemed the kind of coach I would respect and trust.STZ

ZipsAlum92
Wow.First Jacquemain, then Reno Ferri and now Cowles Stewart. Wistrcill has had a really busy first two weeks on the job. Wonder if he is regretting coming here yet?
Z.I.P.
as solid a man as I have ever met. He deserves the benefit of the doubt at this time+1West Point man gets the benefit of my doubt. Remember though, that sometimes people get in trouble because they care TOO much. Because they have too MUCH pride and that can get in the way of seeing the big picture. The man we really have to trust right now is the guy who's been on the job for about 15 days. Tom, I think you can put us back on the right path. Let's keep the faith! And Go Zips!

tim123
Let this be a reminder to everyone that the decisions you make not only hurts you but your family, teammates the community and your fellow students. I hope CJ gets some much needed help. For every action comes a reaction! We all need to focus on the positive and put these distractions aside, we've got plenty of season to right the ship. JD is not the problem,at the end of the day players need to accept responsibility. JD addressed the coaching problem with hiring two good coaches in Harris and Montgomery. Go Zips!! You may want to be careful discussing what he discussed with you on recruiting. The NCAA is everywhere.Hopefully all of this becomes a misunderstanding and everything just blows over. However it seems only USC ever gets cleared of everything...

ohiovarsity
I echo what Captain Kangaroo wrote. As publisher of OhioVarsity.com, I had the chance to work with Reno a couple of times. Rivals.com hosted a couple of junior day events at the university and Reno was as helpful as anybody I've worked with.He was a wealth of knowledge and I enjoyed talking with him.I hope this turns out to be a misunderstanding...he's a good man. Go Zips!!I'm sorry, but there is just no way that JD is coming out of this without taking at least some of the blame. It's his ship. He's the captain. When the ship starts taking on water people are inevitably going to start looking at the captain. There is just no way that he's coming out of this unscathed. Especially with a new AD and the massive investment that the University just put into the program.

Especially with a new AD and the massive investment that the University just put into the program. No doubt. Although I've stated previously that I am happy we took action in these situations, I'm sure the timing of all of this (new AD, new stadium, etc.) is not good if you are the one running the ship. But for the immediate future, we should get behind this team, support them, and hope for the best. There's a lot of kids who have dedicated themselves to Akron football, and they need us right now. xu9697
I don't know Ferri at all, but the first thing I thought of was, "An Army grad isn't going to be purposefully trying to hurt the program". Agreed that I hope it is just a minor blip.Ferri was here before JD I believe but JD has kept him around. JD also has final say on recruits, so Stewart and Jacq fall to him in some regards. But when you are dealing with 85+ kids, stuff's gonna happen. He cannot be held completely accountable. And, if he wins, little of it will really matter (that is the state of things).Let's not forget all the good these players and coaches do (think Alex Allen) and realize that if we are talking about 3 out of 100 or so coaches/players that 97% of the guys are doing the right things and working hard. tbozeglav
I think we can all agree this ship has been taking on water for longer than just the 3 weeks of this season. The problem is that with this past week, the small leaks have turned into gaping holes. It will take a miracle to save this season and JDs job. Don't get me wrong, I have faith in the guys to not give up, but the 1-2-3 punch we've suffered in the last week is going to be hard to overcome. zips4ever2008
This is supposed to be an exciting time for not only football but the entire University of Akron and community and now we have such negativity going on. CJ only has himself to blame and it's a shame with him being a senior. I'll wait till I hear more about the coach to make a decision. Like others have said already, we need to stand behind this team and support them. There are other guys on this team who do things right and work really hard to be a good student athlete. I think we also need to stand behind JD. Its got to be tough with all these stuff going on. It would be great to win at Central Michigan this weekend to get some positive feeling back. LETS GO ZIPS!
