InTheZone Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 What are some opinions on the weakest and most vulnerable area of the Zips for this coming season? How much of a factor do you think it'll be? Quote
zip37 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Both lines are critical to any football team-- IMHO both will need someone to step up and fill the gaps that graduation/used up eligilibility created. With ball ammunition lock and load. Quote
GP1 Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 I want to say linebacker, but I don't think the three seniors we lost will be that hard to replace. This sounds weird, but if Basch and the other fullbacks are not healthy, it will be a huge problem. Especially on short yardage downs and gl when they really need to get a couple of yards. Biggs isn't big enough (no pun intended) to get short yardage on his own and Kennedy is too inexperienced to find the holes. While JD doesn't use the FB a lot in the middle of field, he does on short yardage. Question? Is Basch even a fullback? I get all of them confused. Quote

I'd expect him to be one of the Fr's that gets a lot of PT early in the season. I asked a coach about the fullback situation last month and he didn't seem too concerned. He said blocking would be fine, and "we don't run too many running plays for the FB anyhow." BTW: Basch is a TE. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 I see the OL being the biggest concern. One guy in the group has seen significant PT in a Zips uniform. The rest are all unproven. The DL is probably the second biggest concern. However, we improve by replacing LeFall with just about anyone and Gonzales and White are solid. QB is the next biggest concern. Is Getsy any good? Who knows...he hasn't takes more than 5 game snaps in the past 3 years combined. If he gets hurt, can you win games with Ferguson? Quote

Ah, rereading my origingal post I see that it was poorly worded. I didn't mean use the FB as giving him the ball, I should have said use the FB to block. Thanks for showing me the error in my ways Capt. Quote
RACER Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 i think the d-line.we have very little proven depth, and no pass rusher. the upper teams in are mac pretty much manhandled them. hopefully if we get the right people eligble that won't be the case next year. i have to agree with c/k alott of new starters so we won't know until a few games into the season. one thing is with purdue (the first game )they will be put to the test right away. we will be able to see who will step up. zipboy Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 My 3 biggest concerns 1. Does the O Line gell? I worry about this group the most. 2. QB - can Getsy be solid? If the O Line is solid, he at least has a fighting chance. 3. DL - Hate to put pressure on one guy, but Gonzalez showe flushed last year where he could be a difference maker. He is one of the few guys we have had under the years who was not undersized. I like the depth in the secondary and the LBs will be playmakers. Special teams should be even better with more team speed than last year. Quote
