Anywhere but FIRST will send me into amazement.Whatever rating the Captain posted, it's not the RPI from the NCAA's website. And the RPI is a weird thing. I don't know if they count margin of victory in soccer, but they don't in basketball. It's based almost entirely on strength of schedule, which is why a team from the ACC or Big Ten with one loss could be ahead of us. Quote
w00t Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Thanks for the tip, I'm extremely anxious to see this... unfortunately our schedule is losing its luster by the day and I'm afraid we won't be #1 (I expect to see UNC there). There's not much help the rest of the way either... Michigan is probably our best opponent remaining. If we keep winning it would be pretty hard to deny us a top four tournament seed though. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 If we keep winning it would be pretty hard to deny us a top four tournament seed though. If we get a top 4 seed, Northwestern better get their field ready. We might need to play there two or three times. Quote
UA Fan Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 All Golden State final in the future?http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story...caa&cc=5901 Quote
ejcool27 Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 We also still play Michigan St. who was top 25 beginning the year they dropped off but I believe they're still close to that.....and regarding the espn article. I'm not gonna lie to myself UCLA is good but I'm pretty sure we can take all of them as long as it's not there....which unless the NCAA screws us we shouldn't have to go there, oh wait... Quote
you am i Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Also, UA has an away game at the University of Michigan on 10/20 and UM is currently ranked #16. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Also, UA has an away game at the University of Michigan on 10/20 and UM is currently ranked #16.I watched a portion of the Indiana-Michigan game (won by the Hoosiers 1-0) this afternoon on CBS College Sports. I was impressed with the individual skills of the Wolverines but their organization was less than stellar. Still, given the game is in Ann Arbor I could see this being a tough one. Quote

ejcool27 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Also Penn State is 20th hopefully they can win out till they come here to help our RPI! Quote
MDZip Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 We are at #2. How in the heck is Northwestern #1? That sticks in the craw. http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/weeklyrpi/2009MSOrpi1.html Quote

MDZip Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 After looking at their schedule I really don't understand it. That schedule not only not enough to overcome their record, it's not even better than ours on it's own at this point (and they only have five away games the whole year - we've almost matched that in the past two weeks). We play just as tough a Big Ten schedule as they do (and most of theirs haven't been played yet either). It's a conspiracy, I tells ya.09/01/09 at Green Bay Green Bay, Wis. w00t Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 I think since most schools have only played ten games or so, the teams aren't well "connected" yet for lack of a better term... I would expect this thing to look drastically different in two weeks. At any rate, it's not necessarily a bad thing since we have five teams on our schedule who play Northwestern. I'm slightly more optimistic now that we won't play a true road game in the College Cup this year than I was before this was released. Quote

Of course, we have to play the only other two conference opponents with a good ranking - Hartwick and NIU - both at home fortunately. Quote

ZachTheZip Posted October 16, 2009 Author Report Posted October 16, 2009 Somebody on the BigSoccer.com forums saved me a lot of time and ranked all the RPIs by conference. It's worth a look, especially since we might find ourselves looking to move in a few years.Looking at the local conferences, the Big East is full at 16 members so we couldn't join them unless they split. Same goes for the A-10 conference. The Big Ten has 7 teams, but I don't know how they feel about letting an "outsider" join. A National Championship might grab their attention. The Horizon League doesn't look that good aside from Butler and Green Bay, and might actually drag down the SOS more than the MAC.I like the MVC and C-USA, and I think either would accept the program with open arms. Big Ten would be my top choice, though, if at all possible. Quote
