GJGood
Found this article this morning on everybody's favorite player from Nitro. Its a good read. I like reading about some of the Zips' players background. Brett sounds like a pretty good all-around athlete. But will someone tell these people it is U of A and not AU?http://www.dailymail.com/Sports/200912010772
zip37
Hey, there are still locals that call it Akron U, so the locals should be educated first. Can you imagine playing for 3 different coaches in 4 years.
Dr Z
"I guess you could say I'm starting, but if you know Coach D (Akron head Coach Keith Dambrot), you can't say anybody is starting," said the former Nitro High School star. "He didn't have a starting five last year until the last quarter of the season. "He's looking for the five that's grooving together."If someone put a gun to my head and asked me to complain about KD, here would be part of my complaint: I wish KD would establish a starting five and a leaner rotation. It seems to me that he goes out of his way NOT to establish this to teach some kind of team unity concept. I think he goes so far out of his way to do this that it actually becomes detrimental to putting the best Akron team on the floor during any given game. If he set his rotations earlier, rather than later, I think our team would be better off. His way seems to lend itself to injuries and suspensions and what not, but I would rather see some sort of set rotation. I don't believe he is "experimenting" with rotations that long. I can sit in the stands and figure it out in three games.Interesting article.
zip37
Me? No complaints, KD never tried to do my job, & I won't try to do his.
The Hip Zip
I'm sure that Brett was a great athelete at Nitro WV, but to me he just looks lost out there. As a Zip he's shooting the ball at about a 30% clip, if that, and that's just not going to get it done here. It's no accident that the team excelled in the 2nd half vs Niagara, it was in part because we stuck to a nice 3 guard rotation of Humpty, Roberts and McNees.I hate to say anything bad about the kid because he does turn in a great effort and his defense has improved. I hope that he develops into a great player but if he's going to play D1 ball at the 2 or 3 position he simply must shoot it a whole lot better than he is now. I think that Brett is pressing a bit right now and forcing shots. He needs to just relax a bit on the offensive end and let the game come to him. Hopefully, Brett will be OK but he is not one of our best three guards at this time.

Blue & Gold
Great article. Why in the hell won't the BJ do more like that?! WTF.Duo to be rivalsThanks Hilltopper. But I'm still not impressed. To do a major D-1 university justice, they ought to be running a Zips' human interest story on a weekly basis. You rarely find much more than game write-ups from the Beacon. They do next-to-nothing to give us more personal knowledge of UA athletes.
