GP1
Open discussion here. Any thoughts on the game last night? Here are a couple.First, Congratulations to CMU for their third Championship in four years. Dan L. is the best QB in the MAC since Roethlisberger and that team would be nowhere without him. The accomplishments speak volumes. The guy is a winner. I really don't know what else there is to say unless Captain Kangaroo wants to add anything.Second, I am both frustrated about the Zips and bullish about the future. We have more talent than OU and we can't beat them. I just have to shake my head in disgust. On the bullish side, I remain encouraged about the near future of the Zips. This league is horrible and with the right coach we can get it turned around next year. With the right coach, we will compete for a chance to play in the MAC Championship.Third, thanks to ESPN for only showing the CMU side and I think everyone knows what I mean. They had a nice turnout. Deer hunting season must be over in Michigan to get that many people to a game on Friday night.Fourth, I would like to tell the CMU coach....GET THE HELL OUT NOW. Run from the MAC as fast as you can. Take almost anything at another D-1A conference and save yourself.
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
The attendance tells you much of what you need to know about the MAC anymore. There were 23,000 fans at the game. On TV it looked like there were no bodies in the stands. The MAC is horrible. If you draw 23-25K to a lower division league championship that would probably be respectable, but no wonder it's such a tough sell getting generic football fans interested in the MAC. MAC fans aren't interested in the MAC. The MAC must find a way to step it up in all dimensions when it comes to football, or should just become a lower division entity. How excited are (NOT) the bowl administrators who watched last night, who now have to invite MAC teams to their bowl games? If CMU and OU can't put butts in the seats, that close to home on a decent weather evening, for the league championship, what hope is there that more than a handful of fans will travel to bowl games. Anemic, apathetic, small-time. Man I hope Luis and Tom and the board secretly plan to grow the program and get us the hell out of the MAC. Congrats to CMU and their QB. It'll be very interesting to see where he figures in the NFL and at what position.
ZachTheZip
Now that LeFevour is gone, CMU will go back to sucking. If the coach knows what's good for him he'll be gone by January.I think that even with the right coach we wouldn't have beat CMU, but we would be bowling. I can't wait. There's absolutely no reason for Akron not to challenge for the East every single year. Our schedule is 90% cupcakes, with one or two body bag games thrown in to pay the bills. Why can't we beat those cupcakes and occasionally put a scare into the BCS teams? I think we can with the talent we currently have, if only we can find the right coach. Unless he's pitted against some lame, MAC-esque C-USA program. As stated previously - Roethlisberger beat 3X the BCS schools in a single season that LeFevour beat in his 4-year CAREER.LeFevour - Great MAC QB, but folds against major competiton. It is a fact.

TheMACer
I was pleased that the attendance was up and that both teams looked like they belong. Central Michigan is a downright dynasty right now and it would have taken something special for any MAC team to beat them. Period.I also think that Ohio will be good again next year, but the MAC East probably will go through Temple and Bernard Pierce. Hopefully, a new coach and the new stadium will help the Zips get to the top of the MAC soon!
GP1
Tim Tebow wears Dan LeFevour pajamas.I just saw an interesting headline about Tebow. It sort of plays into his crying on the sidelines after losing. "Tebow turns whine into water."Great player, but I've had enough...... I would. Of course, that was 2005 and all of the facilities and momentum that we hope to build upon were in their infancy. For Akron to get any positive exposure of any kind was great in 2005. Not anymore. It's not good enough for where we want to be. UA has begun to chart a course that will begin with the resurrection of the football team, increased visibility and community support, building to something far better than the MAC. I know that's a long way from where we are now, but if UA can't make it happen at some point in the foreseeable future then I would rather drop back down in competition level. Being the worst at the D-1 level just isn't worth it. I would much rather be cheering on a Mount Union-type team than one that stays mired in the dregs. If it turns out at some point that the mix of factors present in Akron just simply will not support a team that would, say, compete in C-USA at least, then I'd hope that UA would become a FCS team again. jaycevs
OU=solid team, good physical football team, good coach that was unjustly thrown out of Nebraska. That wins a majority of football games. We need to get some of that toughness, and beat up teams. I would rather see us play like Temple or Northern Illinois any day than be like CMU, but some balance is needed. Thats why CMU may be good in the MAC, but they cant beat BCS squads. Northern Ill, when they were beating BCS teams, were tough, Miami was when they ran the ball and had Ben.

Until we still winning and proving that we deserve the fame and glory we will continue on that road. Hopefully, a new coach will right the ship and have us heading in the right direction. ZachTheZip
CMU is great because of one player. Ohio, NIU and, Temple are good because they are talented, balanced, and tough. I want to be like OU, NIU, and Temple are this year, every year. Then you get that one special player that pushes you over the edge and into the top 25. That doesn't make throwing them out unjust.
