For the record, the more I learn about Rob, the more I like about this hire. I don't believe this to be a reach at all, I think he brings some qualities to UA that will help improve the Zips, and I look forward to watching his impact on the Zips, both on and off the field.

Would you like to go on record some more?

Good stuff GP, I needed that one today.

Wow....you manned up and called him out after 2 years. Impressive.

CK knows of one guy who will not post here anymore because of Skip Zip. I know 3 that won't post because of you. True story.

I think ZW is man enough to take a joke. Too bad you know three guys who aren't.

Then you know three people who will be failures at life.

Seriously, if you can't take a little heat on an internet message board, I would hate to see how you deal with problems in real life.

Those three ex-posters have revealed themselves as "failures in life" because they find one poster annoying and so they avoid ZN? Wow. That is a shame. I did not know it was so easy to fail in life.

Seriously, everyone is in a foul mood right now. No sense arguing over petty crap like this.

Z-Dub's already precarious credibility takes another blow. :D

Pretty interesting to go back and see what we were all thinking back at the beginning. I thought I laid out a pretty fair scenario on a potential Ianello path to success. Only problem is, nothing after the "If" in the second paragraph has come to fruition after two full years.

Bingo. Every coach has strengths and weaknesses. Pick your poison. Ianello is universally recognized as one of college football's best recruiters. That means his weaknesses are in other areas. Great head coaches such as Bear Bryant played to their strengths, recognized their weaknesses, and compensated by surrounding themselves with assistants whose strengths covered their weaknesses.

If Ianello focuses on his strength of attracting the best recruits UA could realistically hope for, brings in a strong supporting cast of assistants, and makes all the right moves with those chess pieces, he will be a winner. The same formula would apply to any head coach that UA might have signed. There are no guarantees of who would be best at putting together all the pieces needed. But at least with Ianello UA is getting a coach with a long history of being at the top of his particular specialty -- recruiting. That's a great start.

You think reading the reactions from this old thread are interesting, then you'll definitely want to check this one out.

Zach, you were on the money back then, from the get-go. Funny how many other 'experts' here had the blinders on and were filled with false-optimism. There were people who knew this was a bogus hire right off the bat and called a spade a spade. Others, it took two insufferable years to reach that conclusion. Some of us documented here that Ianello was so obviously NOT the needed leader Proenza had to have to lift this program to new heights. I, like others, questioned TW's motives and credentials to make such a ridiculous hire. How either guy got past the roadblocks at Buchtel Hall is a real mystery. The entire process deserves an investigation.

As has been pointed out, TW was not even in the AD Search Committee's top three picks, but Proenza overrode their choices and gambled with TW. Luis has no doubt been kicking himself every day since for the trail of failure that decision initiated.

I was against iCoach since the third or so game of last season. His treatment of currently (at the time) rostered players was ominous. I'm confident my posts from the time reflect this.
