What a great thread!!!Buck-I fans hating on each other...GP1 stirring it up with comments on the great defenses in c-bus...especially when you play schedules rated 59th.The great assistant coach Dantonio is mentioned as well as he turned around the Bearcats...Wait a minute, that was Kelly. And it was reported about 7 days ago that Powlus would be coming as OC. Not sure who else would want him...

I missed the section with Buckeye fans hating on each other....where was that?Dantonio got the ball rolling in Cincy. Kelly came in at the perfect time because Dantonio had aleady built a solid foundation to grow from.

Do you think that your hatred for the 3-3-5 makes you bias and that don't recognize that Florida won national championships using a similar scheme? Or that West Virginia was the pinnacle of the Big East using it? And that it's quite possible that it was the lack of aggressive play calling (hardly any blitzes) that caused the defense to have issues? And remember before you comment...This is a thread about the new coaching staff.
I absolutely realize that Florida runs the 3-3-5. And that is where you have to be to run such a gimmicky D. You need LOTS of speed. That's why it works there. You are not going to be able to recruit kids that can make that defense work at Akron. THAT is why I'm opposed to running that D at Akron. Learn to walk before you run. My new years resolution is going to not mention the stack D in another post throughout 2010.

Dantonio was 7-4, 4-7 in the year they went Big East, then 8-5 his last year at UC. I would take that kind of failure at UA right now, but recognizing an OSU d that was the best in the country is not a negative in any way towards our fans, but the discussion was on Heacock and how he sucks in my opinion with the best talent available.

Akron: FootballCoachScoop sources tell us that Head Coach Rob Ianello will interview Illinois Defensive Backs coach Curt Mallory for the Defensive Coordinator job. According to our sources, Ianello also will interview Tennessee Graduate Assistant Mitch Browning for a position on the offensive side.
I would love to see Mitch Browning come here. Could Curt Mallory have been recommended by Vince Okruch?

Seems like we are getting some experience on our staff. I like that. I wonder how PN16 feels about Powlus being his QB coach, I bet he is excited about that. Another good interview for a BJ guy looking for a story to educate the football fans of Akron.

I would have hoped Okruch would have had a shot at the DC position. Hopefully he still gets a look as the LB coach.Browning's paycheck from Syracuse ends in 2009, so he should be ready for his next "pay" (non GA) job. He has the ties to TW, so him moving to UA from Tennessee would make sense.

I would take Fickell, Hazell, or Heacock as a defensive coach, becasue their defense is great. The team is a top 10 team going to another BCS game. However, I wouldn't take Bollman, as OL coach, because the o-line has sucked ever since he arrived. I want a coach that coached a good unit. I don't care about the rest of the team when looking at assistants.
tOSU has a good defense when they are playing substandard offenses in the Big Ten...with the exception of Purdue....and the fifth place PAC 10 team USC. A lot of teams would be good against the Big Ten and the three MAC teams they play a year. Michael Jordan would have gotten a lot of dunks against teams of dwarfs. Earl Boykins would probably do the same. It has more to do with the dwarfs than the players.I would be hesitant to use national statistics to compare one team against another. Especially when that team is a second tier team in a second tier conference.I always thought tOSU fans were taking all of Tressel's unit they could handle....and glad to do so.
As usual wrong..But just have at it with your bitterness. This thread is about coaches for Akron. If you want to use this thread to show your hatred or jealousy go for it. I won't participate in your childish game.
You're right. It is childish......and funny.....and true.
