RowdyZip Posted December 31, 2009 Author Report Posted December 31, 2009 A good win at a tough place to play.Wyoming's full-court press caused a lot of turnovers for Akron, and it's something to work on. But you saw here how the Zips know how to win. They didn't fold and they didn't lose control even when Wyoming was threatening. We're watching this team mature. It's happening before the MAC season, which is great. Can you imagine what happens as they develop Zeke as a weapon? Good things, my friends. Good things are ahead! BEAT URI!! Quote
ejcool27 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Four guys in double digits another double double for Jimmy......Great shooting from humpty and steve! GO ZIPS! Quote
Valpo Zip Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Great win for the good guys. I can't believe how a guy can grab 4 times the rebounds that anyone else on the team has grabbed (12 to 3). Keep it up Jimmy. We didn't do particularly well on rebounding or ball handling, but talk about shooting the lights out (56% on threes)I am sure KD is looking into ways of getting Zeke more comfortable during games, where is Jeff Boals when you need him? ...right - in Columbus. ZachTheZip Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 For the record, those were MAC refs last night. Of course, you probably could tell just by the way the game was called. Any Wyoming fans reading this, we have to play with those people reffing our games all the time and they really do suck. Quote
Quickzips Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 For the record, those were MAC refs last night. Of course, you probably could tell just by the way the game was called. Any Wyoming fans reading this, we have to play with those people reffing our games all the time and they really do suck. Not all of them were. At least one was a MWC official. Something tells me the foul situation and all the turnovers had as much to do with the frantic pace taht Wyoming was able to force on us, all the one-on-one play they like to run and the fatigue that the pace of the game and the high altitude brought on as it did the refs. GoZips88 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Laramie Boomerang recap... before a meager crowd listed at 4,414 Wednesday night in the Arena-Auditorium.Dambrot wouild kill for a crowd of 4,414!Regarding the refs, Frenchy mentioned that two of them were from the MAC and one was from the MWC. ZachTheZip Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 4,414 is a meager crowd when you play in a 15k seat arena and you're the only show in the entire state. 4.4k in the JAR is a very loud, very dense crowd. 4.4k in Laramie is a sparse crowd and lots of empty seats. It's about the same as having 1.5k at the JAR.I would kill to not have so many area distrations that keep people from going to the games. Quote

Hilltopper Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 We Was RobbedThe frustrations with the crew -- which featured two Mid American Conference officials -- boiled over when Schroyer believed the officials missed a travelling call before an Akron 3-pointer gave the Zips an eight-point lead with about two minutes left.An audible expletive cost him his first technical foul of the season.“I have to be very careful … but do your research,” said Schroyer, possibly referring to the fact that the crew was predominantly from the MAC as part of the teams’ contractual agreement. Those Damn MAC RefsUW survived that lull and the game remained tied until there were under four minutes left, but that’s when frustrations with both refereeing and with costly unforced errors took their toll.Akron’s Brett McKnight converted a breakaway layup to give the Zips the lead and on UW’s ensuing possession, freshman Amath M’Baye was whistled for charging and his fifth foul had UW’s bench and fans in an uproar.“At times, it does get frustrating when you don’t get the call,” Davis said. “You go to the basket and look for the foul call. … You’ve just got to keep playing through it.”Schroyer disputed a number of calls and missed calls between there and the end, even drawing his first technical foul of the season. zipboy Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 I wasn't there but Akron shot 29 FTs and Wyoming shot 35. I remember that guy at the JAR 2 years ago in his first season as coach. He was shooting out the F bombs the whole game, reminded me of Dan Hipsher in a way. Quote
Dave in Green Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 This was an especially good win for the Zips because it showed they are ahead of where they were last year at this time. They built a small lead in the first half only to have Wyoming outplay them and take a similar lead midway through the second half. That was the point where we would have expected the Zips to fall apart last year. But this year's team appears to be more poised in pressure situations. They responded by outplaying Wyoming over the last 10 minutes, and pulled away over the last 5 minutes. It's the kind of game that builds confidence among the players that they can overcome adversity. We can pick out areas of weakness, such as continuing mediocre free throw shooting, too many turnovers and being outscored in the paint and having to rely too much on a high 3-point shooting percentage. But the important thing is that the Zips found a way to come from behind in the second half against a decent team on a tough road trip. This is not a one-dimensional team. If they're off in some areas, they have the ability to compensate in other areas. That's what it takes to be a consistently winning team. Quote
