ksu sucks
Lol... zeitgeist. The movie laughed at and ignored by scholars, experts, or anyone with a high school education for that matter, but loved by morons on the internet. Anyone who allows their worldview to be changed by such ignorant babble is worse than the 6,000 year old earth people. I was with them until they starting claiming that the government planned the 911 attacks. If you ignore the conspiracy theory side of it, it's extremely informative. To simply ignore because 'scholars' told you so makes you equivalent to someone without a high school education.

The religious claims of the film are more bogus and completely unhistorical than the 9-11 babble. And believe me my friend, I have more first hand knowledge on those subjects than anyone on this board with my educational background (I would suppose). My only point with the scholars was the fact that secular scholars who would love to believe some of the claims laugh them off. Do some independent research and get back to me (and the rest of the educated world). Zeitgeist is nothing but a fraud aimed at dummies from beginning to end. Zipmeister
Also, check out this free flick called Zeitgeist: Addendum. Forewarning: It's very long and starts out with some lengthy speech that you can skip if you are easily distracted. If you associate yourself with any alternative political group, and you have an afternoon to yourself then check it out. It certainly gives an interesting perspective. For me, it didn't so much tell me anything I didn't know, it just gave me a new way to look at government, life, etc. http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/ Lol... zeitgeist. Anyone who allows their worldview to be changed by such ignorant babble is worse than the 6,000 year old earth people. The internet has everything man has to offer, from the very the best to the very worst. But, just as in real life, there's disagreement on which is which. When I was a kid, back in the good old days long before the internet, I read a book about flying saucers being real. I really believed that book, and wondered why the government was trying so hard to cover it all up. As I got older and learned more, I first began doubting the flying saucer book and ultimately rejected it. What it taught me is that it's possible for someone with good persuasive powers to convince a fair amount of people -- especially those who are skeptical of everything in the mainstream -- that almost any kind of alternative reality is real. To avoid being caught up in every phony flying saucer scam requires eternal vigilance. Of course, the same applies to the occasional real flying saucer-type reality that is being covered up for various reasons. It can and does occasionally really happen. But it's rare, and it requires a fair amount of research and intelligent discrimination to pick the rare tiny jewel from the mountain of trash. Well Dave, you just lost the debate in my judgment; unless you are saying that the aliens who abducted me and performed unspeakable experiments on me were just the Dallas cheerleaders dressed up in big bulgy eyed gray-colored space suits. Come to think of it, their eyes were a good deal lower than you would expect.

Come to think of it, their eyes were a good deal lower than you would expect. Actually, the one crazy story that I would not dispute is that certain members of ZN.O may have been abducted and altered by aliens. I simply have no more rational explanation for some of the things I read on these forums.
cornbread
Congrats to Rand Paul. Ron's kid is now the Republican Senate Candidate in Kentucky. Hope this fires up liberals in KY to put up a fight for the Democrats but still, a good night for the Tea Party.
InTheZone
Ron is probably too old at this point (though I think he could have quite an insurgent candidacy in '12 if he chooses to run again), but I could definitely see Rand at the top of the Republican ticket 2 to 3 elections down the road, especially as younger conservatives start to rise up in the party. Non-interventionism, sound monetary policy, civil liberties, and small government is the future of the Republican Party. More of a move towards socialism is probably ahead for the Dems. The middle ground (which I think is worthless anyways and what got us into this mess in the first place) is quickly disappearing and Americans are going to have to decide what it is they want: Maximum freedom and the ability to rise and fall on one's own merits, or cradle-to-the-grave care from a big government. Dave in Green
Checks and balances, an integral and critical component of separation of powers, is the forgotten key to America's success. Upset the checks of some interests over others and it upsets the balance that allows many to prosper. Upset that balance, and some interests gain excessive leverage over others. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, no matter who holds power. Too little government creates as many problems as too much government (see Somalia for the results of excessively minimizing government). It requires little thought to sign up and be a dittohead for the left of the right. It's much harder to be in the middle, because it requires constant evaluation and value judgments between choices offered by the left and the right, neither of which is always right or always wrong. The middle ground is an important component of checks and balances, because moderate independents seek balance while the extreme left and the extreme right seek to eliminate checks and balances to impose their systems on those who want neither. Those who seek to polarize the public and eliminate the middle ground do so only because they believe their side is destined to win. They are the true believers who have nothing but contempt for anyone who deviates from the party line. They're the ones who spew political invective on every forum on the internet, from political forums to sports forums to cooking forums. Independents in the middle generally do not post political commentary. They sit back and read and make judgments about which is the lesser of two evils at any given time. These moderate independents then go into election booths, close the curtains, and vote left or right, depending on which direction is best for maintaining good checks and balances at any given time. Moderate independents are the people who decide elections. They represent the ultimate check and balance that prevents extremists from taking over. As long as enough of them do their electoral homework, and as long as there are free elections, America will remain in good hands.
