The Optimist Thread

24 hours ago our team got pounded by our arch rival, at home, on national TV, for the 2nd time this season. that was yesterday. Today, we have plenty of reasons to be optimistic.1) The Zips are 5-1 against their potential opponents for the quarter and semi finals, and most view the one loss as a fluke game. They are in excellent position in the bracket.2) None of those potential opponents are close to Cleveland, which means the Zips will have the majority of the crowd behind them. 3) Can't State's potential opponents include Miami, OU, and Buffalo. They split with MU and UB and OU played them tough both times. They are the favorite (and should be) but they won't have an easy road to the final.4) It's very difficult to beat the same team 3 times in one season, especially a rival. It would be a mistake to assume Can't will easily win in a rematch. 5) Akron finished last year 4-3 and needed an overtime buzzer beater to get out of the first round. The rest is history. It's times like these that the best fans step up and get behind their teams. We always say we are great fans...now's the time to prove it. LET'S GO ZIPS!

I like your positive thinking but do no not buy into that " beating a team 3 times is tough theory" That is one of those unfounded myths that somehow remains in the world of sports. I think that some coaches say that to keep their teams focused but it's just not true. Take a look at the last two years in the K e n t / Akron series.

Love the optimistic thinking, but I agree with Hip Zip. If a team is CLEARLY better than you, then that theory goes out the door. But if a team is close to your level, then yes, it is hard to beat a team 3 times in a row.

I guess I just don't feel that Can't is really leaps and bounds better, unless you feel like yesterday was a normal showing from the Zips. Improve the 3 point shooting a bit (the looks were there), have a few things bounce your way (nothing did either game) and a lot can change. If I had to bet on a rematch, i'd predict a Can't win, but I don't think it's as clear cut as you guys are making it out to be. I'm hoping we don't see them in the final (definitely match up better with others) but the Zips can beat Can't State.

Here is the reason for hope. Final of the Atlantic Sun tournament #5 ETSU over #6 Mercer. You never know how it is going to end up. While I think the tournaments are an awful way to determine the league champ, as long as the Zips are not the #1 seed, I am fine with it. I also saw that Hunter Yurachek's Chanticleers almost made it. They were the Big South #1 seed, so at least they have the NIT. By the way, did anyone else hear the Dukies chanting "NIT" at UNC? Pretty brutal. It will give a smaller school a chance to knock off UNC in a down year. Enough random thoughts for now. Hey look, a squirrel!

i think we are in the better bracket also.we would not play Can't until the champ game.the only loss to all the teamsin our side of the bracket is eastern.i think ou ,buffalo,or miami could beat Can't.i never liked giving the #2 seed to a team that does not deserve it.in our case though i think it really helped.there is no reason for us not to make the final.we can get upset, but we should be favored in every game until the final.

Agreed - I did not feel good last year going into the tourney and felt really bad with a minute left vs Toledo. Not many expect Akron to win it this weekend so the pressure is off. I hope the team defense that I saw all year long shows back up on Thursday.

Game # 1 --- Akron had a horrible drought allowing Can't State to go on a 19-0 run. We got open looks and good shots inside, we missed and went cold.Game # 2 --- Akron was up early 11-5. Can't State again went on a run (14-1). Akron was ice cold all game shooting 20-some % up until the last 5 minutes or so. UA forgot to work the ball inside even though when we went inside, they had very little answers for us.Were they the aggressor? Absolutely, as Akron seemed intimidated, which completely pisses me off. I saw no one other than Nik who was willing to go at them as he took on Parks several times. UA needs to grow a pair if they want to win this tournament.

here is why we lost to Can't.steve mc neese 23m,5pt,1-6 3pt,2-7fg,0 asst.,0 rebounds.3 turnovers.humpty 3-11 fg,0-5 3pt, shooting.he did get 4 reb,and 4 asst though. 9pts is not much considering how many shots he took.roberts 1-3 fg in 15 min,3 reb,1 asst.2pts your three top guards score only 16 pts total.to make matters worse it took them a ton of brick shots to get the 16.one or two of these guys is going to have to get hot if we are going to win the mac tourney.i hope some of these guys kd brings in next year can shoot.

Don't forget B. McKnight's "stellar" 4 points on 1-5 fg, 1-3 3s performance. :puke:
