joshgozips
This Wednesday vs. Green Bay. http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...TCLID=204908500 AKRON, Ohio – For the third-straight season, the University of Akron men's basketball team will compete in the postseason as the Zips accepted a bid to participated in the 16-team College Basketball Invitational late on Sunday night. Akron (24-10) will play host to Green Bay (21-12) on Wednesday at Rhodes Arena. A tip-off time will be announced on Monday. Akron, which is enjoying its fifth-straight 20-win season, suffered an 81-75 overtime loss to Ohio in Saturday's MAC Tournament championship game. Green Bay fell 62-53 to Detroit in the quarterfinal round of the Horizon League Tournament on March 5, and is participating in the CBI for the second-consecutive year. The Phoenix are 4-3 all-time versus the Zips, but the teams have not met since 1992 when the two schools were members of the Mid-Continent Conference. Sunday's announcement marks the first time in its Division I era (dating to the 1980-81 season) that Akron has appeared in a postseason tournament in three-straight seasons. The Zips competed in the 2008 National Invitation Tournament and the 2009 NCAA Tournament. This is also the fourth time in five seasons that UA has participated in the postseason, also being in the 2006 NIT field. The CBI, in its third year of existence, features eight first-round games on Tuesday (March 16) and Wednesday (March 17). All quarterfinal contests will be played on Monday, March 24, with the semifinals to follow two days later. The final two teams will play a best-of-three championship series with games on March 29 and 31 and April 2. Prior to the semifinals, the remaining teams will be re-seeded and the higher-seeded team will host two of the three championship series games. HDNet is the official broadcast home for the CBI and will televise up to eleven of the tournament games, including doubleheaders on March 16, 17, 22, and 24. Wednesday's Akron-Green Bay contest has not been chosen to be televised. For ticket information, please call 1-888-99-AKRON.
Big Zip
Interesting when you look at this bracket it is a true mid major tourney and a list of teams we should be scheduling for our regular season schedule instead of Mount Union and Malone. Throw in a few big name games and you'd have a nice looking schedule. It is interesting how KD doesn't see playing the big boys as a selling point. He didn't shy away from playing the best HS teams in the country when he was at St. V yet he's afraid to schedule teams at Akron because they won't come to our dump of a HS gym. It's a lot easier to do at St. V when you have the best high school player in the world playing for you. The risk was very limited.
Buckzip
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe if Akron had LBJ he would take the schedula a little differently. I like the best of 3 for the championship. Hopefully the team makes it and gets some valuable experience. It is interesting how KD doesn't see playing the big boys as a selling point. zipzippy
Why does everyone keep talking about KD scheduling the games last time I checked the AD did that or have things changed and I am completely wrong?
mes102
Why does everyone keep talking about KD scheduling the games last time I checked the AD did that or have things changed and I am completely wrong? The Athletic Director does the calling to other schools for scheduling, but Dambrot tells Wistrcill(or whoever is in charge of basketball), how he wants the schedule the non-conference games. He can suggest schools, he can tell what type of schedule(brutal, hard, medium, easy, cupcake), and AD Wistrcill tries to follow those set by Dambrot. The basketball coaching staff does all scheduling. The AD is NOT involved.

We play Malone twice? That certainly makes it easier to raise that RPI. But what's up with Wooster and Muskingum? Did they make it out of DIV III? GJGood
From loooking at the bracket on the CBI website, am I correct in assuming that IF Akron beats UWGB and Indiana State goes on the road to beat St. Louis that we'd get another home game? The bracket makes it look like the second round game would be in St. Louis regardless of the Billikens first round result. I have to think the second round game is there only if SLU is still alive.
