According to ESPN Colerain RB Tyler Williams Verbals to Akron

Rivals has him clocked at a 4.4 40

ESPN describes him as "While undersized, Williams is a quick-footed running back prospect with good scat-back qualities. He is slight in stature but an extremely quick and fast-twitched athlete. Does not give defenders a clean shot or take many direct hits. Displays sharp footwork and good body control cutting back through the small creases"

I did talk with D'Orazio's dad this summer and told him that we needed his son to play defensive back....he told me his intention is to play QB.
Well, Ianallo does like to take players away from their best position and put them somewhere else. Sorry, it was just too tempting! Seriously, though, nice get on that Cincy kid. Small, but beating out UC and at least 3 MAC schools is solid recruiting.

I remember in a JD signing day press conference, some media dolt asked, "Why do you recruit so many RB's and QB's and then tell us they are going to play another position when they come to Akron." JD's response was "in high school, most of the time, you will find your best athletes on the team play RB & QB."

D'Orazio was a one-man team. He was the starting QB, Safety, Kicker, Punter, and Return man in high school.

I have said it before and I will say it again= this guy, if not stubborn about the QB thing, will be an all-MAC safety VERY early in his career. Whether you like or dislike the Buckeyes, if Steve Bellisari had played S instead of QB, he would have played a few years in the NFL as a safety/special-team "gunner".

Well, I've got to be honest. Thus far, this seems to be a very mundane MAC-level recruiting class iCoach is putting together, doesn't it?

With iCoach's recruiting reputation (but not much of a reputation for anything else), I was really expecting more 3-star recruits than what we currently have.

While I'm not impressed either, remember to not put too much weight in the "stars" from recruiting sites. How many of our past 3-star guys have gone on to be actual stars?

Very true.

ESPN has Andrew Bohan as a 3* recruit. Rivals has Kyle Pohl and Nick Rossi as 3*s. Scout has Rossi as a 3* as well.

If you look at all our recruits across all the services, they are all wildly different on who our top recruits are supposed to be. Really, once you get past the 5-star blue chip recruits, there's not much difference between a 4 and a 3 or a 3 and a 2. I think a 2 means they're unevaluated bby the service, so they might end up being all-MAC or even pro prospects whose film just never got looked at by the evaluators due to time constraints or whatever. I also believe that high school coaches can use their connections to inflate their own players' ratings.

was doing some thinking about this and it always seemed like JD's classes came together right towards the end of signing day while many other mac programs were done. JD seemed to pull in some major talent that way although most never saw the field in a zips uniform. Ianallo seems to be locking people up quickly and players that were offered by a lot of other schools. i'd guess he'll wait for some bigger names at the end too but it doesn't look like as many as JD's classes. will it work? who knows but i have noticed a change. also noticed a lot more offers to the military prep schools. lots of talent there. also working for them is the other 2 schools that got a lot of that talent are with out a coach (Can't and temple). lets take advantage of this. oh and GP1 i agree with your post about wanting to win and turn things around vs early playing time. the recent articles i've been reading most of the kids say that they look forward to turning things around. to be fair they also mention early playing time after.

:screwks:

Looks like we may have landed The Lone Ranger

BTW, I am not among those who have given up on PN7. But clearly getting a JUCO in here was a prudent move on the part of the staff. Well done!

Interesting. I'll wait a bit to see if anything official beyond "expected to sign" comes up.

If he does sign, it's great news.

I hear ya. So iCoach proves he can out recruit Dave Christensen at Wyoming Hmmmm confused0006.gif

From scout.com

Moore is an extremely competitive player who is willing to do whatever necessary to move the chains. Clayton has the ability to beat teams with his feet as well as his more than adequate arm. He looks at home in the pocket, but he enjoys pulling the ball down and making plays when the opportunity arises.

Moore: "I have the ability to lead my team and am a coach on the field. I can move the chains when they need to move. I have a pretty strong arm and good accuracy, but I want to improve my arm strength. I really like being physical, which I know sounds strange coming from a quarterback. But when I run, I like to make it worthwhile. Even if I take the worse end of the licking, at least I showed them I'm not afraid to get hit."

While it's nothing official, the most recent entry on this board seems to confirm his commitment. There are some interesting posts on here. Sounds like this guy has SEC talent, but ran into some issues while still playing in HS Here's hoping UA provides a good opportunity for him to prove something to himself and his doubters.

Your research is putting up some flags for me.

Moore initially committed in June to play for Ole Miss, but the Rebels rescinded their offer in December. The reason is likely tied to an incident in which Moore was dismissed from the Louisville (Miss.) High School football team. The timing of the dismissal is particularly curious -- it happened at halftime of the team's state semifinal playoff game against Aberdeen. The Jackson Clarion Ledger reported that Moore got into a disagreement with his high school coach over an audible, though there's clearly more to the story. As a senior, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Moore passed for 1,402 yards and 19 touchdowns. He rushed for 526 yards and two touchdowns. He injured his back prior to the season.

iCoach seems to run a pretty tight ship. My way or the highway. So I'm guessing the dismissal was discussed. Hopefully he has grown up. Kids make mistakes.

A JUCO QB is always a risk. Much more so than a position with a high amounts of substitutions.

Maybe the JUCO experience humbled him. Maybe not. I know that he just led his team to a win in the Mississippi bowl, whatever that is. They were ranked #7 before upsetting the #3 team in that game.

There are 14 JC teams in Mississippi divided into 2 divisions, they play a 9 game regular season. Top 2 teams in each division(4 team total) meet in a playoff system. Winner is Mississippi JC football champion. Mississippi JC Champion is one of the teams in the Mississippi Bowl which is one of about 8 or 9 JC Football Bowl games.

Kid looks like he had some huge offers. May be a huge get if true.

A little more research on Clayton tells me that he has great potential. Biggest weakness appears to be arm strength. He would have 3 years to play.

On the Ole Miss boards, somebody mentioned that he signed with Akron. They mentioned this yesterday, well before any "journalistic" reports of him coming here surfaced.

Statistically he's a better passer and rusher than Zack Stoudt, whom many on here were raving about.

To what "journalistic reports" are you referring?

One thing that strikes me is the lack of Clayton being directly under center in any of the highlights I've seen. Not that I necessarily want to see that, but iCoach seemed to be headstrong about this in 2010 (even when PN7 looked far more comfortable in the shotgun). Maybe iCoach will be less adamant about this, regardless of who plays, in 2011? It's not like you can't run a pro-style offense with the shotgun as a predominant formation. NFL teams, particularly those playing catch up, do it all of the time.

The newspaper you linked about all those JUCO players signing.

Gotcha. I guess I just figured since today was JUCO mid-year signing day the newspaper was providing the best information they had at the time (in terms of where these guys were going to sign). Seems like a reasonable approach to me. Do you think the paper used the message board post as its source? Seems more likely to me that Clayton let select people know of his intentions, and word leaked to the board before the paper could print its story.

It's possible. For the newspaper to know where all the players were going, they probably talked to someone on the coaching staff.

JUCO signing period lasts until January 15th, and they don't traditionally all sign on the first day like the high school recruits. There's plenty of time to let things play out.
