ZachTheZip Posted August 8, 2010 Author Report Posted August 8, 2010 Rossi seemed to be highly coveted by WVU as a Linebacker. A great pick-up for our 6th verbal. I can't figure out how many scholarships we have for this class because the new roster hasn't come out to see who has transferred. Anyway, here are two more offers: S Valaugn Griggs ATH Matt Losiniecki Quote
ZachTheZip Posted August 11, 2010 Author Report Posted August 11, 2010 Chase Hounshell verbals to Florida. Deonte Gibson verbals to Pittsburgh. Quote

I am completely with you on that. Losing to the bigger conference schools is one thing. Losing out to other MAC schools is ridiculous with the facilities we now have. Quote

We still have the small time loser stigma to overcome. I got into an argument yesterday with someone that said "come on...Akron isnt REAL football". Facilities are one thing....a reputation as a loser is another. We need to win some games, then the facilities seal the deal. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 There are 13 MAC schools. At 25 scholarships per year, that's 325 scholarships annually. Many high school players have scholarship offers from multiple MAC programs. Unless the Zips can offer 325 scholarships per year, I think we will always "lose" kids to other MAC programs. I don't think Gabe Gilbert will make or break our 2011 recruiting class. It is August of 2010...somehow we'll recover. Quote

But this is how I justify it... If an athlete chooses Toledo or Can't over Akron, they are obviously idiots anyway haha. They must be smoking some of that Portage grass and anyone who thinks those schools are better, aren't welcome in our beautiful school Quote

If it's someone we want, then we should be unhappy about losing them to another MAC school every time. We need to become the destination school of choice for MAC & some BCS caliber players. There will always be a few players that tip the scale based on location or a certain academic program, but we need to start Toledo in recruiting...that's why facilities were built and the iCoach was hired. I would guess we offer scholarships to about 75 kids per year. Maybe more? I could care less if some of them attend Toledo. The only teeny tiny caveat would be if it were an Akron kid. Maybe that would bug me a little. And even then, if the kid wants to go away (from home) for college, I guess... more power to him. I did. F YSU Quote

ZachTheZip Posted October 18, 2010 Author Report Posted October 18, 2010 If I was coach, I would just go out and offer every five-star prospect in the country. Promise them they will start immediately. Tell them they have a chance to put up numbers unheard of in the NCAA, numbers that will help the stand out on draft day. Quote
