InTheZone
and they've got a couple bulldozers and a track-ho sitting out there ready to go. Back in my day as a Zips athlete, you could always find a track-ho that was ready to go
jem101
The bulldozers are finally in action. Right now they're ripping up the berm seating behind the East goal. I might try getting down there in the next few days to get a picture up here.

Most phones will allow you to send a picture message to an alphabetic destination instead of just numeric. So instead of typing a phone number to send a message, try typing in your email address and then hitting send.

Jake
So, new field for this 2010 season and stadium for next season? Is that the plan? I've heard that they got a donor to sponsor the whole thing and rumor is that it will all be done by the fall. Could be wrong, just saying what I've heard. I'd love it if that is true. I wished from the start that they could do the whole thing in one shot. I'll do some sniffing.
scottditzen
This is really discouraging...I hope a sponsor comes through. So, new field for this 2010 season and stadium for next season? Unfortunately you are wrong. The first phase (Lights, new field, drainage, irrigation, etc.) is going to be completed on time. Phase Two (Grandstand) is in need of money and the university is looking to cut aspects of the stadium that will make it less than adequate for the level we aspire too. It's all about money now and Caleb needs help. No major donor has stepped forward. As with most capital projects, 80-90% of the fundraising is done quietly before it ever goes public or gets to people like you and me. Those deep-pocket donors are being pursued but none have committed. This project is in danger.

Go around the dorms and collect loose change, send out a flyer to the season ticket holders and to the entire alumni base (if the alumni association agrees to actually do something). Lots of small donations can add up.
vmd9
I don't understand why no local companies want to step up and give some money. Look at the football stadium, Infocision, Summa, and First Merit all stepped in and gave major donations. I wish a company like PNC or FirstEnergy would give some money. Then just name it "PNC field" easy as that haha

tbozeglav
Thinking about it now, im kinda glad this will be done in two phases. The field drainage and the lighting structure are far more important than the press tower, permanent seating, and locker rooms. Id rather them take their time doing it right the first time than cutting corners to meet an extremely close deadline.

zip37
J. Dicky is accepting donations, as I wrote during the season, but evidently ZNO are all talkers [writers] and not doers.

mes102
first of all... i was waiting to see if they were going to change their minds and i didn't want fans to say "i don't want them on our team if they wanted to transfer earlier" type comments...they're still college STUDENTS, and I was trying to respect that...you can ask zachthezip,lilroodude,j-rod, and rootforroo44 about it cause they all knew about it from the same source. What i was trying to get at is that you said that ZachtheZip knew very little...He's been to every Zip athltic event I've remembered the last 3 years and ran into him at the softball DH vs YSU and baseball game vs Pittsburgh on that tuesday last week. He's just throwing ideas out there to probably nothing because all people do on this forum is talk about what they're going to do, but never do what they talked about. I would go all day every day of the week for this fundraising but i have school and final exams coming up in less than 3 weeks. So I can't be any help for 3 weeks on spending all day on finding ways to raise money for this project, but I'll at least try to donate my portion when i get my paycheck... insults in 3, 2, 1.... Ha-ha, no insults Mr. Mes. Just saying that as you had sensitive information and were reluctant to share regarding the basketball team (which I completely respect and agree with) others may have similar information regarding possible donations. People and companies have been approached and they are considering. Patience...

ZachTheZip
Phase I complete. I saw they mentioned that the new playing field will be turf? I like having the grass berm on both the east and north sides now. Can' wait to get the new lighting system in, which finally allows games to be on TV. It's all about money now and Caleb needs help. No major donor has stepped forward. Maybe they should add up all of the money they left on the table last year when all of those games sold out on Tuesday because of inadequate seating. Imagine how many tickets they could have sold if they had twice as many seats. Or more. For crying out loud I've seen 19,000 fans at indoor soccer games before, some paying for SRO. Not to mention the very weak inventory of Zips wear they have for sale in their used Winnebago trailer, they park next to the portable outhouse. How much money did they leave on the table just in those games (OSU, MAC tourney, and NCAA tourney)? What a bass ackward bunch of clowns. Build a 30,000 seat football stadium for a team that has a hard time drawing 3,000, and put a national powerhouse soccer program (smack dab in the middle of a soccer hotbed) on a crap field with less seats than a local high school football program draws for JV games. End of rant. Thanks for letting me vent.
bmaker
Phase I complete. I saw they mentioned that the new playing field will be turf? The new field will be natural grass, but built on a sand base which makes it much more tolerant of weather extremes.
