Classic coach, classic uniforms?

Another uniform thread. Beat the dead horse. I don't care.

But last year's uniforms, while nice, just have left a bad taste in my mouth. I wonder if Ianallo, with his background at ND, Wisky, etc. and his 4-3 Defense, pro offense style (all signs point to a "traditional guy") would take us back to more of the stripes on the sleeves, Jason Taylor days. This would be TW's first chance to make a choice on a look as well.

Whatever we wear, I obviously hope we play a lot better.

If I had to guess...I would say we will have the same blue uniforms from last year. Possibly new white ones to match? but the helmets need to stay the same! I would like to see something new, but I couldn't see the football team getting new blue uniforms after just getting new ones last year, waste of money

We can hope that Coach Powlus had enough pull at ND to get some of the real gold flakes that ND puts in their helmet paint. Or, we can hope Ianallo stole some of those flakes!!!

....Just please don't go back to those HORRIBLE yellow and navy uniforms (a la Geen Bay) from teh late 90's early '00's.

I love the fact that they keep their uniforms fresh and new...so I don't mind seeing new white, blue, and even gold uniforms.

I'd love to see an alternate White or blue helmet....just none of that hideous Green Bay Look-alikes....that was attrocious.

Holy crap, tell me about it. Those are the uniforms I was referring to in my above post. They were the worst uniforms in all of D-1 college ball.

I'm with you - I like the new uniforms. If we get travelling whites to match the home blues it'd be sweet. Just flip-flop the white & blue & walla - you've got a sweet away look.

I want the gold helmet to be our staple look - but alternate white or blue would be cool too - ala, Oregon. But awfully pricey.

I was just wondering if anyone thinks there's a chance we'll see a minor surprise or two in terms of uniforms when the 2010 Zips take the field on Saturday. Often a new coach will dramatically change things, but I don't foresee any major changes since the sailing roo (or whatever you want to call it) is still fairly new. Thoughts?

I am a HUGE fane of the"throwback" uniforms worn in the Snow Bowl game at the Rubber Bowl against Can't a few years back!

It is an "older" gold than used now with the old "A" logo and some sweet stripes on the sleeves.

BTW...I personally loved the Flying A Green Bay Yellow and Navy uni's and created them on the NCAA11 Teambuilder site for my Zips Alternate uni's

They also have on the game a white version of last years new blue uni's.

Last year they did not tell us about the uniforms, stadium does not appear in NCAA 2011 game, rosters not complete...yeah, I think they could "spring" new uniforms on us come Saturday.

At the very least, it seems we will wear the newer pants with the white jerseys (as we did in the spring game).

I was wondering about the practice uniforms this year. Not sure if they have gone so "ND" in the years under JD. I know, of course, many teams wear much different practice unis vs. game unis.

Yeah you are right, the stadium is not in the game, but I am not surprised. I just posted the uniforms showing the updates in case anyone was interested to see the changes.

Yep no stadium. I posted it elswhere...according to EA Sports their initial trip to Akron to photograph the stadium was cancelled due to our lovely winter storm this past year. When EA Sports tried to reschedule they apparently were met with an uncooperative U of A staff who was not willing to work with them and EA Sports eventually said hell with it.

Had to bring up this old thread, since we got a new coach. Seriously think we need a change to usher in a new era of zips football. Forgetting the past and a new look to completely remove ourselves from the Ianello regime. Obviously I know that recruiting and winning is most important...

I know this topic is brought up a lot, but I think it's almost a must. Watching the bowl games, it is apparent football uniforms have become more important than they ever were in the past. Recruits pay a lot more attention to uniforms than you would think and even minor details like that couldn't hurt.

Definitely prefer the more traditional look, but like some of the newer looks. I really like what Oklahoma State did this year. I also really like the matte finish that Baylor, Cincinnati and others have used with their helmets.

I think the white helmet thing might be overdone a bit, so I prefer not to do that...though it would be a good look.

A blue matte alternate helmet might look really nice with a gold jersey and white pants (home). Otherwise, an updated gold/blue/gold at home and maybe gold or blue lid, white jersey and white or gold pants at home.

Please stay away from chrome/non-school colors in general, BUT the new grayish/silver color the basketball team uses is nice. Speaking of that...it is still a hinderance and, I believe, quite an anomaly in today's world to have different brands for all sports vs. at least one sport....really need to get it all under one brand!!!

I'm a fan of the new matte helmets that have popped up around the country. I agree, a blue version would look nice, even with an all blue uni. Here is Minnesota's maroon matte helmet look:

I came across this company HGI. They did the chrome Oregon helmets, Metallic gold Notre Dame, TCU etc. I think we should seriously talk to them to see if there are any unique things they could do for us. I really like Notre Dame's new metallic gold helmets and I think that would look pretty good as replacement for our current ones. Then adding a matte blue one to wear for some of the big games. It could also be interesting to see a metallic gold facemask with the blue helmet.
