ZachTheZip Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Michigan to install the 3-3-5 defense. Why doesn't this defense just go away from the college level? It doesn't work. As soon as one school drops it because they figure out that it sucks, some other school starts using it because the coach is desperate enough to try this gimmick. Quote

You had to see this coming, it's what RichRod ran at WVU. The 3-3-5 can work and has at some schools, but you HAVE to have some absolute animals up front. We had some linebacker sized DE's and DT's that were completely incapable of holding their ground against double teams and we never had a nose that could create penetration in the middle outside of Kiki Gonzales, in who's time we did have a top ranked defense (2005). The scheme can work, you just have to have the right personnel, and a mid-major like Akron is incapable of recruiting that type of personnel. It can be a good defense for a BCS school like Michigan. Florida's 2 National Championships would disagree with you. Quote
Dr Z Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 Michigan to install the 3-3-5 defense. "Alleluia" Tressel-ball will rule against Michigan D. Not that it hasn't before. Quote

First you might want to post that on an OSU board not a Zips board And Michigan is about a year away from taking over the rivalry because Tressel can't deal with a real spread offense. Quote

He will only have to defend Michigan's offense about 5 times during the game. TOP will favor Columbus State 2:1. I'm with UAkid, get Michigan on the schedule, we can do the same thing to them. Quote

Brings to mind an old John McKay quote: Reporter: "Coach - how do you feel about your defensive execution?" McKay: "I'm in favor of it." Quote
skip-zip Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 I come here to see bad information about OSwho....not jubilant pictures of their coach. The Suckeye are our enemy...not Michigan. Without rehashing everything again in detail, please note once again that defensive alignments are...well...defensive alignments. You choose them to utilize personnel, and put players in what you feel is the best situations to make plays. But at the snap of the ball, the players still need to make the plays. Can anyone name a defensive player for Akron in the JD era who you could consistently rely on every down to make a play? Besides John Mackey? If so, I don't think it would be a very long list. The versatility of that alignment is the big benefit. And I am sure that there are teams that have had, and will have, a lot of success with it. Quote
