Is this a MAC kind of problem or what? JD probably would have tried to kick more often if he had any confidence at all in the guys putting it through the uprights. Pile on the poor punting and frequency of blocked kicks to this dismal stat line. Improving special teams alone will go a very long way. Quote

From the looks of it, we should use Branko, and only kick if the distance will be between 30 and 39 yards. Any situation other than that, and we should probably throw a hail mary into the end zone. This is without a doubt the most crucial piece to address with the team. Field position and gimme chip shot field goals are so important to success on a football team that we have not had and needs to be addressed. There's three parts of any football team and each one is as important as the other,1)offense2)defense3)special teams. I think if we can get better at special teams that we will be more competive and give ourselves a chance at winning more consistently. Go Zips!! Quote

You know, I have to think there must be someone sitting over at Lee Jackson Field who has no hope of figuring into the futbol team's future, who nonetheless is capable of kicking an oval football through an upright pair of goal posts. From at least 40 yards with consistency. Trying to remember the mid-to-late-80s Copley HS product who transferred back from BeeGee and didn't figure in Lolla's (or his predecessor's?) plans, but became a consistently successful kicker of American footballs. Just go back to the 2006 season when we borrowed Jon McClain from the soccer team when we didn't even have anyone who could kick an extra point and he did a pretty good job. Quote
