zippy5
From what I have seen, all the doors are locked and the only way in or out is through the skywalk that connects to the JAR. That tells me that they're preparing for the asbestos removal stage. It could take weeks before it's safe to tear down without giving everyone at UA lung cancer. The doors really aren't locked, it's said that for a week but they dont actually lock the doors. Btw, a few hours ago I was playing a few pickup games in Memorial and Quincy Diggs came in and shot around for a while. Looks like he has a nice shot and a decent wingspan for his size. He was a little shy but very friendly as well. I know a few other ZN.o members were there playing and say him there too. Yep, I saw him there too. He said it's cold up here(wait til winter). A pick-up player told him he should go to Akron when he was shooting around at a different hoop(Diggs was wearing a Wichita State shirt), and Diggs says he does and he transferred. He's got a big wingspan like RootforRoo44 said, and he looks like he's a better shooter than Hitchens, maybe even better than Brett McKNight or even Steve McNees. +1 I haven't seen him shoot...but I mean any D-1 player is gonna knock down his shots with no one on him haha. We'll see how he fares against, you know, defenders. Hopefully he can step in and contribute at that 3 spot.

Again, i know my way around high level basketball and i can tell you that he has a smooth stroke from outside. It's kind of like if you saw someone that had a pretty swing like Ken Griffey Jr, you'd know he's got something going for him. Trust me, this Diggs guy is a pure shooter. RootforRoo44
I saw a funny thing today, wish i would have taken a picture. I went and played some basketball at memorial hall today and while i was walking up to it i noticed that they were laying down new mulch around the building. This was inside the ring of trees around the building already tagged to be removed. Talk about a waste of money (although minuscule compared to the overall budget). I guess it will be nice around it when it's taken down.
ZachTheZip
Snapped a picture while walking around. They're apparently trying to chip away and free the marble memorials at the front entrance. I also saw some weird landscaping that caught my eye; the landscape for learning now includes horticultural volcanoes.
g-mann17
I wonder if the demo of memorial also means demo of the skywalk connectind to the JAR.
Zipsrifle
I wonder if the demo of memorial also means demo of the skywalk connectind to the JAR. I hope so as it's not useful anymore. Well, I guess it's not useful in keeping students clear of cars but it is useful in the winter in keeping students warm. Besides, it look stupid to have a bridge over a student walkway unless the bridge is on like the 4th floor.
ZachTheZip
Memorial is still standing. Presumably it's getting dismantled from the inside right now. There is lots of digging going on around it, most likely taking care of the pipes and underground stuff that runs through the building. Right now, I think they're waiting for the current phase of campus construction (fabrication facility, exchange parking deck, soccer stadium, and Spicer dorms, psychology archives, all to be completed by late August) to be complete before starting a new round (Memorial demolition and replacement with college of education, corrosion engineering facility, baseball stadium, lot 9 replaced by dorms, buying the Wonderbread factory). ZachTheZip
The whole area is fenced off now, and they are in the process of removing any scrap-able metal bits they can get. Lots of the windows are busted out already. Does anybody have a link to the renderings of what the new education building will look like? If I recall correctly it would be symmetrical to the Student Union, across the Coleman Commons.
ZachTheZip
Half the building is gone, leveled into a tangled heap of scrap metal and bricks. It's pretty easy to tear down a building that is essentially hollow like an arena.
ksu sucks
It's pretty easy to tear down a building that is essentially hollow like an arena. Prove it.
ZachTheZip
It's pretty easy to tear down a building that is essentially hollow like an arena. Prove it. Look at Memorial. It's going down way faster than Carrol Hall did. There are no structural elements in the interior of the building, no support columns, no interior walls, it's just a hollow box. You take off the roof, knock over the walls, and haul the debris away.
tbozeglav
Thought Id add this in case anyone missed it. From Zipline: Memorial Hall frame to come down Wednesday Don't be alarmed if you hear a large thud late Wednesday afternoon. Workers will bring down the steel frame of Memorial Hall between 4:30 and 6 p.m. tomorrow. Kolbe Hall will be evacuated during that period as a precaution. Work crews will shear the columns to weaken them, then the structure will be “pushed” south until it collapses. The steel will be recycled. Hopefully someone will be able to catch it on video and share. It'd be really cool to see happen.

tbozeglav
Yeah I heard it at my house south of campus. Around 6:30 or even a bit later I think. Another video from another angle:

Zipsrifle
It is amazing how big that building was. It took up quite a bit more space than I thought. I hope the new building has a smaller footprint to open up some green space.

tbozeglav
So they've started work on the new Ed. building, then? they havent even finished excavating all the debris from tearing down memorial. I wouldnt expect construction of any new building to start till spring. Thats assuming that construction will start immediately following the completion of demolition. UA Fan
Oh. Thanks. I guess it's going to be a while. Say, when are they supposed to be building that titanium bridge down by Quaker Square?

Say, when are they supposed to be building that titanium bridge down by Quaker Square? I think they had to find funding for building the bridge next. Not sure what the timetable for it was. A majority of the funding was coming from the Department of Defense (or maybe it was DARPA?). I think the timetable was supposed to really pick up next year. There needs to be modifications made to both sides of the tracks before the actual bridge can be built.
