In my opinion, nothing. This article makes a big deal about how the MAC is making contingency plans should the Big Ten expansion affect the MAC. While it's always good to be prepared, I don't think I'd put too much effort into this one. The MAC looks like the only conference that won't be affected, as a matter of fact it could even be positive because it might get rid of Temple.

As far as Temple is concerned, I remember back about 10 years ago, when I looked at Marshall's exit from the MAC as a better opportunity for the Zips to win the league.

I don't look at that situation the same way anymore. We should want our league to be better overall, and want rising programs in our league. Temple presents such a situation....a former BCS conference football team that happens to have an even-more-recognized basketball program.

I like having Temple around. And if we don't continue to seek teams that have the potential to make our league stronger, and increase our visibility, we'll continue to play for nothing more than what we play for every year........an "empty" conference championship that means vitually nothing to anyone who we are trying to influence in the upper levels of the college football community.

'Are there people out there that are the right fit program[wise] and fit philosophically and would elevate your conference?'

Good question.

If the Big Ten expansion causes the Big East or another conference to raid the MAC for a program or two, who is a worthy replacement?

Temple itself is not the problem, it is the football only situation that causes the problem. If they were a permanent member of the MAC, that would be great, because then we could maybe add a 14th school and balance things out. Does anyone really think the MAC was better off when UCF was a football only member? Especially with the terrible geographic issue? So if Temple leaves, I think it helps the MAC. Do we really want an East football champion that doesn't actually play all of the teams in the East? It is going to be a problem at some point. Marshall's exit was definitely a loss. If Temple joined as a full member, WKU would be an excellent addition if the Sun Belt implodes.

I do.

Every MAC team was excited about making the road trip to Florida. It was a lot more attractive than Muncie or Ypsalanti. I know every Zips player during that era had the Florida trip marked on their calendar.

Western Kentucky? The MAC tried to bring them in but then backed off at the last minute and WKU had to go to the Sun Belt. They're on par with football, being one of the worst teams in the country, and they would be a major upgrade for the MAC West in basketball.

I think a lot of this depends on just how big the Big-11 decides to become. Many analysts seem to think that if at least 2 Big East teams are taken by the Big 10, Big East football is through. In this scenario, the argument goes that the remaining Big East teams will quickly do whatever they can to land in the SEC or ACC. I think this makes a lot of sense IF two or more teams are taken.

Hey, ITZ! Just noticed your new address. Congratulations on the venture! So, did you have a chance to watch Nottingham Forest's grand collapse from certain promotion to playoff losers? Forest just happens to be my team in the FA. My Dad served in the USAAF/RAF in Stone village, just West of you. How's the pub life where you are?
