ZippyforPresident Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 And last but not least, I'm extremely excited about this years OOC schedule. Minnesota, Dayton, Temple, Oakland, Oral Roberts, and home games against regional teams in CSU (who could be pretty competitive again this year) and YSU (I know, but they could get better)? If anybody on here wants to make the claim that Coach Dambrot didn't thus far schedule an absolutely beautiful OOC, then that person must be spending their fall/winters drinking more Roo Brew than I ever thought possible and obviously not watching college basketball. We have some room to really prove ourselves this year. Every one of those games is a game we can win, and against some of the best that "mid major" basketball has to offer right now, not to mention a "mid major" level bs... err bcs "team." To be honest, I don't think minnesota is really the biggest challenge thus far, I'd say it's probably Dayton. I love the road game against the Flyers. As long as I don't end up having a scheduling conflict I'm chomping at the bit to make the trip down to UD (and not just for the Hudepohl ). And in the event that Coach D stumbles across this message board every now and again... Great job Coach. I can't wait until basketball season, the future is NOW and it is BRIGHT! GO ZIPS!!! I don't think I would say Dayton is the best on our OOC schedule thus far. Temple is expected to be a preseason top-25 team from all indications. Don't get me wrong, Dayton will be a challenge, but I think Temple. Don't discount Minnesota too much. Tubby Smith is putting together a pretty nice program in that little corner of the Big 10, 11, 12, whatever the heck it is now. They won 21 games last year and made the tournament, even beating Butler in a preseason tournament. The Gophers may not be the flagship program of the that conference, but it isn't like we are talking about Penn State or Northwestern here. As far as the schedule goes, like I said earlier, it is lightyears ahead of where our normal OOC schedule is. If VCU isn't coming this year, then that indeed hurts a little bit, but it is still a solid schedule. The key again is going to be who we fill those last spots with. If we can find some more solid mid-majors and maybe a decent power conference team or two the schedule will certainly be more in line with what many on here have been clamoring for. If we fill those spots with teams like Malone and St. Francis, then it really isn't that significant an improvement. Good post QZ. I do agree that Temple looks to be very good again next season. They're an extremely solid A10 program coming off of a 29-6 season with a tourney appearance. In my mind they just kind of got overshadowed by Dayton's success in the NIT combined with the early exit from the tourney at the hands of Cornell and their Cinderella season. Temple will definitely be a test for us. Minnesota and Tubby Smith are definitely nothing to spit at either. And as for the remaining spots I would love to see the Zips match up at home against someone like a Murray State or Siena, or even another decent CAA team if VCU is indeed not scheduled for this season. Perhaps Northeastern or William and Mary, or maybe James Madison and Humpty Whoever it ends up being, I do hope we get at least another home game against a competitive mid major. If Coach Dambrot wants to throw a Malone or a Findlay on there for a very early season warm up that's understandable, but hopefully there will be some competitive mid majors that find their way into the remaining spots on the schedule. I also hope that some of this trend of "scheduling up" is indicative of Coach Dambrot maybe thinking that this year's team is at a level where they should be able to win against a majority of these more competitive out of conference opponents. Zeke-mania 2010-2011. I'm so ready. Quote
UADavid Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Those 2008 guys built the foundation that made 2008-09 possible. They did a bunch of the heavy lifting. Nate showed the Zips what it was like to have the will to win. It will be interesting to see which guy on the current roster emerges to keep the Zips on that trajectory and get them back to the NCAA. McNees clearly has the will to win. Nik has the energy and emotion required .. can they pull it together. The talent is here. I wonder how the open gyms are going this summer with the revamped roster. What's happening now has a big impact on the 2nd Saturday in March. Go Zips! It's his emotion that holds him back. He is a loose cannon on the court and really is a liability when he gets angry. He is often angry. He commits too many fouls to see meaningful playing time. He brings energy to the court but most nights can't stay on the court long enough to have a positive impact. If he could learn to control his emotions, he could be a much better player. Quote
Quickzips Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 For anyone who is interested, the end of the 2010 RPI's for our confirmed 2010-2011 OOC Opponents: Cleveland State-156 Youngstown State-269 Oral Roberts-130 Dayton-35 Minnesota-64 Temple-11 Oakland-53 UIC-288 Miami(FL)-98 Indiana State-90 Not a bad mix in there. The only really bad games are Youngstown State and UIC. Youngstown State I'm willing to give a pass on because the geographic issues and potential for increased attendance outweigh some of the negatives of that crummy RPI number. I'm rather surprised by the Oakland number, wouldn't have expected them to be that high. A few more top-50 and top-100 RPI teams to fill things out and MAYBE that schedule is capable of getting us some at large consideration. Still have to win some of those big games, and you can't lose to Youngstown State or UIC really, but the potential is at least there this year as opposed to years past. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Should be coming out soon. Other MAC schools are releasing their OOC schedules. Quote

Too bad our football team is so "scared" to play a mediocre FCS team Quote

Have fun with that powerhouse known as Gardner Webb. Quote

Don't you hate pompous schools like that? Quote
Quickzips Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 Add a December 18 date with Bethune-Cookman at the JAR. http://b-cuathletics.com/sports/m-baskbl/s...skbl-sched.html The Wildcats finished last season at 17-16 with an RPI of 256 in the MEAC. Certainly looks like a cupcake game at this point. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 Bethune-Cookman? Definitely a bought home game. 5 home, 5 away, 2 neutral with two spots to go. Quote

GoZips Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 Zips one game away from having a complete schedule. Thin possibility of an away game at a major Big Ten program. (not OSwho). Quote

MDZip Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Zips one game away from having a complete schedule. Thin possibility of an away game at a major Big Ten program. (not OSwho). It was Michigan State. Sadly, looks like it is off the board now. Quote
