ZachTheZip Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Former Zips RB named the head coach at his old high school Hope you find much success, Coach Biggs. Quote
Blue & Gold Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 One of the more exciting players we've seen in blue & gold over the last 10 years. Quote
Quickzips Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Biggs played the running back position like it was supposed to be played. One cut, and head downhill. None of this pitter patter, dancing around looking for a hole stuff that so many backs think they can get away with now days. Wish we had a back like him on the current roster. Would definitly take a lot of pressure off the young QB's. Quote

Yes indeed, very fun to watch...however If I remember correctly, we primarily ran out of a running formation with a fullback when Biggs was here most of the time, not this crap Shotgun-run nonsense of the past few years right? Hopefully going back to a proper running attack will allow our backs to get back to the Payne/Hendry/Biggs days. Quote

Correct, the running game had changed to a more shotgun, read oriented system the past few years. Our backs were being asked to take the ball practically from a standing start after the quarterback had made a read on the defense and turn it into something. It was an offensive scheme that put the back at a disadvantage from the get go. I to hope we can get back to a more traditional style offense this year. Put the QB under center and let the RB get a head of steam going when he takes the ball. Quote
GP1 Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Biggs was the best player of any player that played for JD. While he didn't make the NFL because of size, he was the best player. There is no doubt that his becoming the starting running back directly contributed to turning around JD's first season. He was also the heart and soul of the championship team. We have a long line of losers at UofA....Biggs was a winner. Quote

He was the difference maker that year. Quote
Z-P Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 The best.............good luck to him! A Gentleman and Nice Guy to boot. He'll make a great coach. Quote
Dr Z Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 The game he had at BG that year might have been the best single game performance by a Zips FB player that I've witnessed in person. This one was the style I would like to see some running backs have this year. 38 carries, THAT's how you control a game! PS The best single game performance I have seen in person by a Zip has to go to Dwight Smith against Ken+, I have never seen a DB win a game for a team the way he did that day. There are a few seconds on my list but all those guys get a chance to touch the ball a lot and any mention would diminish Dwight's efforts that day. Good luck Brett. Quote

I remember this games as well. If I remember right, he had a punt return for a TD, an int for a TD and blocked a field goal. I could be wrong, but that is how I remember it. Smith was one of those players who was obviously better than everyone else on the field when he played. I would go as far as to say Smith is the best player I have seen play at UofA. JT would be an EXTREMELY close second. Quote

Man was our offense pathetic or what. Consistently handing the ball off to a stationary back absolutely sucks. I don't ever, ever want to have to watch that again. Quote

Well who can forget that sideline stare. Really threw the defense off. I mean, we were an offensive juggernaut. Seriously, the shotgun draw play can be effective if used sparingly in proper situations, but to make it your primary running play, and at times your only running play, is just foolish. Quote
